At first Ange does reach out to Steven's shoulders, but after the shield starts moving she realises it's actually managable. It's not like Ange hasn't had some wild rides before while trying to make her way through various witches' domains, after all. So she steadies once they're moving all over the place.

She doesn't hop off it until they're close enough to be near the sand witch. Ange looks like she's ready to fight, but then she actually looks at the witch, and..

.. well, sure, the witch is big and all, but she's just sitting there trying to make - what looks like - a sandcastle. It's not exactly the most intimidating thing ever.
