KARAOKE PARTY!

Who: Linda, Kite, everyone else in the mansion who wants to come.
Where The Dining Room
When: Saturday Night, January 12th
Rating: PG. At most, PG 13.
Summary: Linda has been talking about a Karaoke Party with Kite for weeks now, and finally it’s a reality.
the Story:

The sky was darkening, and soon it would be night. It was almost time. Time for the party.

Linda had to thank the mansion. Over the past weeks, it had been giving her CD after CD and eventually a karaoke machine itself. By now, the musical collection for tonight was well into the thousands, containing any song that anyone ever might even think to sing. She was excited. No one would be left out because they lacked a song. In fact, no one would be left out. Or else.

Spinning about the dining room, a trail of confetti flying about behind her, Linda danced to the music in her head while finishing her decorations. Bowls of food and snacks lined the tables along the sides of room while a massive stage took up the back wall. All of which were now covered in a coat of confetti. The room seemed to sparkle, almost as if it wished to join in the party as well.

“Kite!” Linda called, “Kite! It’s like, almost totally time! We’ve got to like, totally greet everyone and stuff!”

"Ah, no," Kallen replied, shaking her head. "I don't sing."

Jack laughed a little at that. "Not at all?"

"The student council president used to make me sing during her parties, but I don't do that anymore," Kallen said, trying not to remember what Milly used to put her through.

"You can't be all that bad if she made you sing," Jack pointed out. Perhaps she just didn't like singing...

Kallen grimaced a bit as she thought back to when she was in school. "She made EVERYONE participate. Even Suzaku, who can't sing to save his life."

"I'll take your word on that," He said. "Did you at least get to choose which song you sang?"

[identity profile] nishiki-knight.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not really. I sang some song in Japanese called..." Kallen's voice trailed off as she tried to remember the name. "I don't even remember now."

"What about you?" Kallen realized she was doing all the talking, and didn't know anything about Jack. "Is this something you would do back where you live?"

Jack laughed slightly as he tried to imagine a karaoke party in the Hub. "I live at work... and spend most of my free time there," He admitted.

"I keep a few records there, but I don't sing to them very much."

"What kind of work do you do?" Kallen asked, picking up her drink again.

Jack's smile faltered. Ah. So the year that wasn't had made him a little too lax. He was going to have to learn to watch his mouth... or at least start carrying retcon, but he didn't really want to start having to wipe memories whilst he was here.

His smile returned to his face after a moment, and was as though it had never gone. "Confidential," He informed her, tipping her a wink for good measure.

Kallen raised an eyebrow at his response. She noticed the change in his expression before giving his answer. Well, she wasn't going to question him any further about it. Everyone had their own secrets and their own past they wanted to keep quiet, right?

Jack busied himself with pouring a glass of water whilst he thought of a new line of conversation.

"You been here long?" He asked, after taking a brief sip.

[identity profile] nishiki-knight.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Couple months." Kallen couldn't remember exactly how long though. "While you're here, you learn that time starts to run into itself, and you lose concept of it."

"Good job I'm pretty good at keeping time then," It was something he'd grown used to back when he still worked for the Time Agency, though it was something his former partner had always been better at.

"Do you want to go back?" Jack asked, glancing at her curiously. Some people here were desperate to go back home, and then there were those who just didn't seem to be.

[identity profile] nishiki-knight.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
"I have to go home," Kallen said, with a serious look on her face. "There is a war going on, and I'm needed."

Jack nodded, he could understand that. "I'm sure you'll be able to get back sooner or later," He reassured her, his own face also serious.
