The Second Coming of Harry Potter

Who:Harry Potter [[livejournal.com profile] eats_snitches] and those eager to find him
WhereMain Hall
When:Just after his arrival
Rating:E for Everyone
Summary:Harry has just arrived at the Mansion, unaware that he has been there before
the Story:

Harry’s fumbled attempt to use the device he’d found shortly after his arrival could not have gone better. Not only was Ron here, but his mum as well! Despite not knowing were he was for sure, this sent a wave of warm relief coursing through Harry’s veins. He forgot his cuts and bruises and felt a smile creep onto his lips. He’d be seeing Ron soon and then Mrs. Weasley would feed them and tell him where he was.

Glancing around at the many Harry Potters reflected in the room’s mirrors, Harry shuddered just a little. He wished they would hurry and find him. This place gave him the cold chills. All these reflections watched him and he could swear that they moved when he wasn’t looking at them directly, much like the portraits at Hogwarts did. However, he had felt nothing but amusement at the moving portraits. Reflections were a different matter altogether.

The other disconcerting thing was the first voice he’d heard talk back to him on his walky-talky device. He did not recognize it, but it seemed to know him very well. It even knew about him and Ron’s crash, though it had just happened moments before. And he claimed to be…Harry shook his head in disbelief…He claimed to be his father.

Suddenly, the Harry Potters multiplied. At first, they seemed to stand out only in height, an older Harry perhaps. But no, their eyes were far from that beautiful green, their foreheads lacked the signature scar, and if anything their hair was a bit messier, possibly on purpose.

But then, they waved. The lookalike was on the other end of the room, beaming at Harry. Indeed, it was Harry's father, though he was not as old as he should be, given Harry's age. He was actually younger, only a seventh year. James opted not to bother thinking too hard on technicalities like that, especially as it was his third time meeting his son already.

" Hullo there, Harry!" he said with a laugh. " Long time no see!"

At first, James was genuinely surprised by the reaction. He smiled though, accommodating the bit of fear, and he put his hands up just a bit - clearly nowhere near his wand.

" Ah, but I remember the last time I saw you," James said. " It was a few weeks ago now, and you hadn't turned twelve yet. Before then, I saw you during the winter, and you were nearly my age!"

He chuckled then, and tried to explain the best that he could. " This place is a bit funny with time," he said. " People come and go a lot, from different times and different worlds."

Somehow, each time James had to explain these things, it got a bit easier to do. He was less awkward, mostly, and was able to say he was Harry's father with much more certainty and pride.

"...I know I'm probably not what you're expecting," he added referring to his age and the fact that he was alive, " and that's because where I'm from, it's only 1977. Nothing's happened to me just yet."

Ron sped down the stairs, searching excitedly for Harry. On some level, he was also a bit anxious; after all, this wasn't the Harry that had helped him settle into this strange place during the first few days. Instead, Ron would have to help Harry settle. Somehow, there was something incredibly... well, incredible about that. Ron Weasley. Teaching Harry Potter something. Brilliant!

He skidded to a stop when he reached a room loaded with a dizzying array of Potter reflections. Blinking a few times, he finally figured out what it was he was seeing. Oh. Oh great. It could have been worse, he supposed (at least Harry had been fortunate enough to not run into Sirius Black), but Ron didn't know how Harry would react to the whole time-hop thing, never mind what his reaction would be to seeing his long-dead father.

"Harry!" Ron cried out, despite himself. "You, uh... you've met, er...." Making a nervous face as he absently scratched his head, he murmured, "Blimey, this is a bit awkward."

James looked up as well, beaming at Ron. Ron would surely be able to help him explain things! Besides, wasn't that how it was with kids? He knew he would probably take Sirius' or Remus' word over his parents' a lot of the time.

" Ron! Good to see you!" James waved. " Mm, we've met again. You were just in time for that! We haven't been here too long."

He set his arms down though, as he felt a bit silly and he had Ron to validate his existence. He offered Harry a grin.

" It must be a bit hard to believe though, all of a sudden like that," he said.

Late to the welcoming as ever, Sirius came rounding the corner at full speed. He wanted first crack at Harry this time. The last two times he barely had the chance to talk to him ... well, besides confusing the wand off that first one. That was such a good time.

Unfortunately for him he wasn't watching where he was going and almost ran into Ron, stopping just short of doing so. "You're both here already? Well that's rotten luck."

[identity profile] chess-wizard.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Ron made an attempt at a grin, though it looked more like a grimace. Suddenly, the idea of helping Harry settle seemed a bit difficult. He seemed to be taking things well enough, but Ron could bet that Harry was probably bursting with questions and/or suspicions, none of which Ron felt confident enough to answer accurately.

Nodding a greeting to James, Ron put his hands in his pockets and slowly continued his approach. Turning his eyes to Harry, he asked, "So, Harry... what's the last thing you remem-"

He was sidetracked by a sudden movement out of the corner of his eye. Flinching, Ron fumbled about for his wand before realizing who it was that had nearly crashed into him. Ugh. He was certain that Harry wasn't going to have an easy time with the idea of a homicidal maniac hanging around.

"Er, Harry? I don't suppose you know Sirius Black, do you?"

[identity profile] pottershotter.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
" He's your godfather," James piped up, with a grin. " And my best friend. I'd trust him with my life and yours. Certainly moreso than that rotten Uncle Vernon of yours."

Of course, he knew why Sirius might be a concern for Ron, and perhaps even Harry if he had been just a bit older, but James knew just as well that they had nothing to fear. Despite that, trusting Sirius with their lives was probably the last thing anyone from the future would want to hear, but it was the truth.

Then he looked up at Sirius and laughed. " And you, how is that rotten luck? I think I've got a right to find my son before anyone else does!"

"You got him the last two times." He strolled over as if Ron wasn't completely scared of him and wrapped his arms around the boy's shoulders. "He's such a cute kid these days too. Takes after the mum I bet. Merlin knows you're an ugly sight." He was grinning. Sirius grinning was a bad sign. It meant he had ideas, and Sirius with ideas was a bad thing. "Has Molly seen him yet? It'll be a disaster if she hasn't. Spry one that cousin of mine."

[identity profile] chess-wizard.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Trying to restrain a case of the heebie-jeebies as the taller man passed by him, Ron couldn't help but wince when Sirius touched his friend. Harry obviously hadn't been part of the wizarding world long enough to know that one of Azkaban's most infamous prisoners was currently embracing him.

"Distant," Ron spoke up when Harry asked if they were related. "Very, very distant. I think." In truth, Ron couldn't remember his family's lineage all that well, but he was sure (or, at least, hoped) that his mother couldn't be that closely related to the likes of a Black.

James just laughed, feigning mild annoyance. He was too excited to see Harry to really be annoyed. " But he's my future son," he pointed out. " I should get to see him first every time!"

" Besides," he said, " He doesn't even know who you are. You're probably scaring him half to death, so let him go for now."

After all, James was bright enough to know that now was probably not the time to be scaring Harry. Or Ron really, for that matter, though Ron was rather fun to scare from time to time, James had to admit.

Sirius let go of the boy and ruffled his hair, still grinning. "Ron, we're second cousins. Not that distantly related."

When Harry asked about why he didn't take care of him his face fell into a frown. "If I could have Harry I would have. I really would have." A strange sort of sadness flashed through his eyes before it was gone again. He really didn't want to think about those events. Especially since they hadn't come yet. "As for the time thing, you start to get used to it. Old Snippy was here and an old man once, now he's younger then us. It's actually pretty fun sometimes."

[identity profile] chess-wizard.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Ron shuddered at the contact and eagerly pulled away. He could deal with the concept of Sirius not being a complete nutter, but twelve years' worth of upbringing couldn't be thrown away at the drop of a hat.

He still wasn't used to talking about things that had and yet hadn't happened yet, and was all the more perplexed when it seemed that Sirius once again had some knowledge of the future. What had the grown-up version of Harry told him?

"Snippy? Who on Earth is Snippy?"

SORRY GUYS

[identity profile] pottershotter.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
James laughed, "Oh, you know. Snippy. Snivellus. That grease bucket you call a potions professor. He's got all sorts of clever names like that. You should try them sometime; he really likes them a lot."

Of course that was a blatant lie, but it would be hilarious to watch if any of them tried.

His attention went back to Harry then. " It's kind of strange for all of us, really. It's not going to just suddenly be normal all of a sudden." He smiled. " It just takes some getting used to, that's all."

"Snape, Snip, Snip Snap, Snivilous, whatever we can think of really. Your father is quite the creative word smith when he puts his mind to it." He wrapped his arms around both boy's shoulders, grinning like an idiot. "You know Prongs, we lose a Pete and gain a pair of protégées."

[identity profile] chess-wizard.livejournal.com 2009-08-05 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ron met Harry's eyes as James and Sirius kept going on about Snape's many nicknames. While it should have seemed hilarious, Ron couldn't help but feel a sense of horror. He half-expected a fully-grown Snape to appear from around the corner and yell out something about deducting a thousand points from Gryffindor.

He straightened up when Sirius put an arm around him, as though denying he had anything to do with the nicknames. "Whatever a protégée is, I don't think it's something that my mum would approve of."

As though just realizing something, he blinked up at the older boys. "Peter Pettigrew? So he's really gone, then? I think Harry would have liked him. He did last time, anyway."
