the Story:

Again the woman was there before Break, she had already gathered the ingredients for the cake she was going to be baking for him in exchange for the candy he had given her before.

Very much the uneven trade she knew, but she was hoping a bit that if it was good enough perhaps he would be generous. She began to beat the butter and sugar together in a baking bowl.

She took the plate and fork from him, a little amazed at how clean it was. That wasn't normal. They joined the other things in the sink. "What sort of cake do you like the most?"

He licked the bits of icing that had gotten onto his hand off his fingers, his back still against the counter. "Anything would do."
