Helena and Haru had one encounter before, a very brief exchange over the network, that had left her with a bad impression of the quarter-lynx. Needless to say, actually doing something with him is something she never really considered, but for tonight she could make an exception. Maybe he wasn't so bad, in any case.
Besides, if this idea she had of launching Hong Kong's fireworks managed to lead the lost people home, then she'd put up with anything.
Out of breath from climbing so many floors, Helena arrives at Hong Kong's door, and enters immediately.

"See if you see them. I know he had them out last time I was here~"
He was dressed very warm for someone who was still in doors..The quarter lynx was wearing a grey snow leopard fur coat, black pants,a black long coat under it, a grey hat and a scarf. Despite all of the warmth he still looked like he was freezing.
no subject
"What are you looking for?"
no subject
There were more crashes, and this time it didn't seem like the building collapsing under the weight of ice and snow. He paused in the hallways, watching the group of kids ransack the room, looking for god knew what.
no subject
"Hong Kong's fireworks." This came out in a huff, since she was still pretty tired. Running up those steps had been exhausting in the cold. She went down on her knees to check under the bed, leaving the rest for Haru to explain.
no subject
Stopping outside the door from which a certain amount of commotion could be heard, Max peeked inside. "Yo. This where the rescue party's meeting at?"
no subject
"Yep! That's us Max. Although I'm not sure what these two are doing here! We're heading to a spot where the roof caved in once we get the fireworks." The whore points at the two men with grey hair besides himself. "Hey Hubb~ We're going to see if we can make a beacon for the people out in the snow.
He sticks his tongue out at Gokudera while checking under Hong Kong's desk.
"Dipshit, it's good to see you're doing well too~ Have you seen Hong Kong's fireworks stash lately?"
no subject
"No, I don't know where he keeps them." He pulls a handful of explosives out of his shirt. Sure they're not fireworks, but they'll have pretty much the same effect. "I've got lots of my own, though."
no subject
Kids... He shook his head.
no subject
"You seriously suggesting we start blowing things up? We don't need any more holes busting through here than what we've already got." Then again, if they couldn't find fireworks, it wasn't likely that the mansion would provide them with something as specific as flares. "Still, if it's all we got...."

Haru rolled his eyes as he found a trunk containing his boyfriend's fireworks. He hauled up the big case and placed it over his shoulder holding it by one hand. He winced about the weight a little but it probably was surprising that he could lift it at all.
"That's Gokudera for you. But it might be good to bring him along. He knows how to make sure no one else looses a hand." There's a sad smile after that as he remembers the nation. "Hopefully~ We should get going. The attic's the place to try right now~"
no subject
He knew from experience that they worked, too.
"James's fireworks'll work well, too. I'm the one who showed him how to make them."
So yeah, Haru, you can blame the lost hand on him now if you want.As far as he's concerned, that's as much explanation as is needed. He stepped out of Haru's way to let him lead the group.
no subject
"Are those incindearies?" He set some of the materials aside, shellac, potassium nitride, and where the hell was the alminium? "Problem is, they go boom once then stop." Well, he thought so. Rockets bombs was a new concept; but at least that kid looked capable enough not to blow them up. Max too, since he's spoken to her already.
no subject
Glancing at Hubb, she remarked, "I can set things off and move fast enough not to catch the tail end of anything that tries to take me out; if it comes to that, I don't mind stepping up and braving the storm alone."
She looked over to Haru with a bit of concern. True, she was a lot stronger than she looked herself, but she couldn't help asking, "You need a hand with that?"
no subject
The whore walked up the stairs backwards, with the trunk humming. "Once they stop? What's your point Hubb? I don't get it~"
dasklfjsdaf SORRY I'M EDITTING THIS A MILLION TIMES
He glanced at Max. "Yeah, something like that."
Following Haru up the stairs, he glared at the older man. "Shut the fuck up. He wanted to learn how to make them, so I showed him how. Like I wanted him to lose his hand."
Guess who's back! Back again!
It was also a bit good that she could go ignored for a while, because honestly she was still in a bit of a daze. She had been crying earlier about her fight with America, and her eyes were a bit red.
But when the guy named Gokudera started swearing at Haru, she piped up. "Let's just keep working, okay? There are people out there..."
Welcome Back
He looked over to the one carrying the box, "It's not a lasting beacon. Something slow burning might be better, but I agree, work with what we've got."
He nodded at the demolitions expert. Deciding to mentally list him as 'competant' until he had more information.
The girl had a point too, that was why it was better to work with professionals.
no subject
Grabbing the side of the trunk that Haru offered, Max silently listened to his and Gokudera's exchange. She didn't know who "he" was, or how he had lost his hand, but she had to agree with the girl that she assumed to be Helena.
"Yeah, what she said. The two of you can kill each other on your own time, if that's what you really want. But if there are a group of people waiting to get rescued and we've got a shot at doing the saving, they're gonna need all of us in one piece."
no subject
Thankfully the attic space was freezing cold and the snow blowing in was sure sign that the roof had caved in somewhere up there.
Haru headed over to the sizable hole in the attic where the wind howled from time to time. For the first time since all of this started he wondered if it was going to work but at least it was something.
"We could always set the roof on fire." Haru muttered still trying to puzzle out a solution to Hubb's damn realistic problems.
no subject
Shoving his hands in his pockets, he looked up through the hole in the roof and rolled his eyes at Haru's comment.
"If you light off the fireworks at intervals, they'll work in pretty much the same way as a flare would." He eyed the trunk they'd brought up with them. "And there should be plenty to do that with."
no subject
She glances up through the roof as well, and frowns. Snow is already starting to find its way in, although the wind doesn't look that strong... Still, did fireworks even work in blizzards?
She stepped out of the way for now, having no idea what to do with the rockets. She looks around at the others, expectant, hoping they know what they're talking about.
no subject
"If we can get the fireworks to go off in this storm, they're going to blow off course. But then, they might light the roof on fire, that'll be both suggestions in one." He was more than willing to burn this damned mansion down, why not?
"Enough or not," He said to Helena, "We'll have to use what we have."
no subject
Stooping down by the trunk, she withdrew one of the larger rockets and looked at the hole in the roof, calculating the exact positioning necessary for optimal visibility. "Something tells me a fire on the roof stands the chance of spreading, and since we ain't got no other place to go, that might not be the best of ideas. Also, we gotta be careful not to accidentally shoot more holes in this place and cause things to start collapsing. Concussions ain't generally fun."
Looking up at the others, she asked, "Who brought the matches to this shindig?"
no subject
He aims to kick the other young male in the butt to edge him forward.
"Max raises a good point though~ Concussions are really no fun. Neither is testing concrete with your head. Some of us may not be able to stand it."
Haru will not look at Hubb but it's very obvious that he's thinking about him.
no subject
"Here." He took his lighter out of his pocket and held it out to her. "I've got matches too, if you need them."
no subject
Or maybe it's because she's feeling a bit subdued right now, and she's taking everything too seriously. In any case, they'd taken too long setting up already. She feels a bit impatient, like she wants to grab the rocket and the matches and just launch already. But she knows she'd probably end up burning the whole place. She fidgets a bit, impatient and anxious.
no subject
Hubb gave Haru a glance, "Some people are more hard-headed than others."
"What's the worst that could happen?" He asked, looking at Helena. "We blow up the hall, set the roof on fire, and we all die in a shower of burning concrete. So, let's light em up."
no subject
Raising an eyebrow in Hubb's general direction as she headed for her designated spot, she remarked, "You must be one of those big-picture type of people. Still, even if this place decides to bring us back from the dead over and over again, I'd rather not take the chance. Haru, if you see any sign of flames going crazy, get that trunk outta here before it can light up and make things worse. Helena, Hubb, just be ready to spring back and protect your heads and the back of your necks if things start falling apart. We cool?"
no subject
"Hubb if you die Ritsuka will never stop complaining.." He looked at Helena for a moment as well. "Or America~"
The whore did not know whether or not Max or Gokudera had anyone but his eyes were staring at the back of Gokudera. Now wasn't the time.
"I hope this works...at least it's something. I think the snow has changed the mood of the mansion completely. When Spring comes, maybe the complaining will start again."
no subject
He heads over to the area Max indicated and fishes the matches out of his pocket, ignoring Haru's stare, though he can feel it. Without waiting for further instructions, he goes ahead and sets one of the fireworks off.
no subject
And although she didn't like to think she was useless, Max did have a point. She supposed her job was done after she suggested the whole thing to Haru, so she just stood back.
Haru's comment, though, sort of makes her raise an eyebrow and shuffle uneasily. "What's that supposed to mean...?"
She watches as Gokudera launches the first firework, and is tense for a moment as it passes very closely to the edge of the roof. There's another moment of anxiety as she waits for a pop... And then it's there, a huge cascade of red sparks falling in an umbrella pattern, blurry but still very visible in the blizzard.
"It worked!" She gives a cheer as secondary pops are heard, and a few smaller bursts of color appear close to the first, sparkling like gunfire.
no subject
The pop was good, it meant the wind wasn;t blowing them too far off course.
no subject
"Nice," she remarked as she lit the fuse on her own and backed away. She kept an eye on it long enough to be sure that it launched without taking out a chunk of the building on its way out, then looked back to Hubb. She hadn't really expected him to fall back, not an old timer like him, so she was utterly unsurprised to see him setting about his task.
"Set me up with more ammo, H?"
no subject
After a moment curiosity got the better of the whore. He leaned a little closer to Helena and mumbled softy to her. "He's your friend isn't he?"
So far the plan was working. He would have to find a way to thank Helena.
no subject
Assured that the fireworks would work, he timed his own blasts to coincide better with Max's after that.
no subject
She passed the firework to Gokudera, letting Hubb help out Max. She did it more to buy her time, so that when she answered the quarter-lynx, her voice would sound normal.
She said quietly, "Well, yeah. Yeah, he is."
no subject
He scoffed briefly. "It's Hubb McCann, boy." No more than that, since this really was not the right place to be picking fights.
He let the other two handle the other set, at least death wasn't too permenant here.
no subject
Raising her voice so Haru and the others could hear her over the sounds of the explosions, she eventually called out, "How long we planning on going at this? 'Til we run out or 'til our peeps get their butts back in here?"
no subject
"Until we run out, Max! Let's face it. We can't keep it up forever and..It's mostly about feeling useful isn't it?"
no subject
no subject
Haru gets her thinking, and for a while she's silent. Although she does speak up after Gokudera.
"Yeah, let's just keep it going for as long as we can."
no subject
no subject
Letting off another firework, she added, "Just so long as we get the chance to blaze before everything falls to pieces, I can keep this up for hours if I gotta."
[Anyone for wrapping this up?.]
Haru hoped that Gokudera thought about that for a moment. If he couldn't have his drug why should the other? He watched the sky with a hand shading his eyes. Well it certainly was bright and colorful up there now.
"Oh yeah that's right. I forgot that we're stuck in an insane mansion bent on keeping us trapped in it's boring halls~"
[Sounds good to me. o/ This'll be my last post anyway.]
If Haru thought he hadn't considered the dangers, he was wrong. After so many years, Gokudera knew how to handle his weapons and, more importantly, how not to handle them.
He turned his attention back to the fireworks, continuing to accept them from Helena and set them off until they ran out of stuff that would explode or the others decided to call it quits.
[Sure sure :D]
She doesn't really know if they'll notice, but she grins at all of them, happier than she has been in a few days. The fireworks are great, they all felt pretty useful... And for the first time she felt sure that the others in the snow would soon be back.
Gotta end somewhere :)
And they were all still arguing. Kids...
I'm cool with a fade to black if ya'll are. ♥
She didn't know who all was missing, but she assumed that most of the people there with her stood to get back someone they cared about. If that was the case, then Max was more than happy to light up everything with a fuse within her reach. And if the crazy pyrotechnics going off in the gray sky didn't bring people back, then at least she helped to give these kids a bit of hope. That's more than a lot of people back in her world ever got.
