Who: Ryohei and Ruby
Where Hallway
When: Immediately after the torture session with Ruby and Faith
Rating: R? It's a fight
Summary: Ruby is bitchy and over reacts
the Story:

Ruby was still in full demon mode. Two days of torture will do that to a girl. Her eyes are black, she's got Faith's blood on her fingers, her clothes and smeared across her face. Her knife is tucked away inside her jacket. All Ruby really wants is to get in a hot, hot bubble bath then curl up in bed and sleep for a week.

It's a good plan. It's a plan she's intent on following through with. It's a plan that will let her humanity come back to the surface, covering the demon with a nice mask.

She was distracted, mind still in the torture room with Faith, still on Sam's death and when she bumped into Ryohei hard enough to knock her out of her reverie. And that's all it takes to stuff humanity's plan way down.

"Watch the fuck where you're going, Asshole."

And she bumps back, her shoulder to his. Hard.

Admittedly, Ryohei hadn't been paying attention to what he was doing. If he had, he'd probably have avoided Ruby altogether. The boy might have been dense, but he knew who to be wary of, and watching her kill Faith had put Ruby into the "avoid for your own health" category.

But like her, his mind was elsewhere, and so he didn't notice her until he bumped into her. Automatically, he readied himself to apologize, but the words died as she spoke. When she bumped into him again, so did any intention of being polite.

"You weren't watching either!"

He stepped back, fists half-raised as though he's expecting a fight. The part of him that was tired of thinking so much and wanted to act a bit more kind of hoped that there would be one.

He reacted out of instinct and experience to her attack, catching her fist in one bandaged palm and pushing it away before countering with a blow from his other first aimed at her stomach.

Fighting required almost no thought on Ryohei's part. After years spent thinking and practicing, it came as easily as breathing. The ring on his right hand burst into flame, and the yellow, heat-less fire spread to envelope his whole right fist for an instant before seemingly dissipating. This was a bastardization of a fighting technique he had learned recently, done without the proper equipment but with a similar result: the flame, absorbed into the cells of his hand and arm, would augment the limb's strength, hyper-activating his cells, as it were.

He let go of her hand and twisted to absorb the blow from her hand and minimize any damage to his arm, and aimed a couple of sharp jabs at her face.

Although he normally used his left hand primarily, to preserve the strength in his right, he could tell this wasn't one of those times when holding back would help him win.

Which, really, suited him fine. He'd never been good at holding back.

Ryohei wasn't the type to talk during a fight if he didn't have to. It detracted from the experience.

He saw the kick coming in time to avoid most of the force of it, sidling back out of the way so that her foot only glances off of his leg. There's still enough force behind it that it leaves him off balance for a few seconds, although it doesn't make him lower his fists from their protective positions near his face.

Both hits landed but they didn't seem to slow him down much. If anything, every time her attacks connected, he only got more fired up. She was obviously not an opponent to be taken lightly so he focuses more of those flames from earlier into his fists, aiming a punch at hook punch at her face, following it with an uppercut to her jaw.

He recognized that kind of grin--he'd seen it on other opponents before. All it meant to him was that she was enjoying the fight, and that was better to him that if she were fighting him out of malice. So he can't help grinning back.

He tried to slip out of the way of the blow, but misjudged and her elbow caught him a glancing blow to the temple. Throwing a somewhat wild punch to try to distract her, he stepped back, shaking his head to clear it.

Hey, Ryohei thought so because he comes from a manga, so it's all about teamwork and friendship and doing your best and blah blah Ruby would hate it.

This was the point at which Ryohei was going to be bested soon. He had less experience fighting for his life than Ruby did, and his style wasn't as versatile. The only way he could win this fight would be to use the kind of technique that put holes in people's abdomens. He didn't know the extent of Ruby's durability or strength, and he didn't intend to test it.

Instead, he chose not to avoid the blow, which knocked the wind out of him. He stumbled back a few steps, almost up to the wall behind him, and then laughed breathlessly.

"You're a really extreme fighter!"

At least he's not as bad about it as most of his castmates?

He didn't notice the look. And he didn't know Ruby was a demon. Just that he enjoyed fighting with her.

"I want to fight you again!"

[identity profile] kyokugen-sun.livejournal.com 2010-02-04 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
It's a common reaction to him.

"I'm gonna look forward to it. I'll do better to the extreme next time."

He grinned and turned to go back on his way, then stopped and looked at her again.

"You're Ruby, right? That's your name?"

He was a little surprised she knew his name. He nodded.

"Yeah. Ryohei."

He waved a little and headed off down the hallway.
