Rating: PG-13 for the Major and his creeperness. Usual disclaimers apply.
Summary: The Major's doing Ganta a favor. Kind of.
the Story:
Both Seimei and Elaine had warned Ganta to be careful of the Major: that he shouldn't trust him or go near him. That the Major did terrible things to people. Ganta believed them, and he appreciated the warnings.

But he also wanted this collar off, and the offer was too good to refuse it. He'd dealt with people like the Major before, anyway, and was certain that even if he was taking a risk, it wasn't anything he couldn't handle.

He couldn't have been too certain, because nine o'clock found him pacing nervously back and forth across his room. He was calmer now that it was light outside, but still anxious to get this over with.

Are your powers different then?

They said my branch of sin had evolved. But I don't really know what that means.

Do your powers change over time?

[Still poking at the collar]

[He's quiet for a minute, thinking.]

Mine have. Kind of. But I haven't heard of anyone else's branch of sin changing.

So, that must be what they mean when they say your powers have evolved.

You say no one else has a gem like that?

Right. I don't think so anyway. The doctor at home made it sound like I was the only one. And the director said... [He pauses. Not really sure how much it's safe to say to the Major.]

They just seem to think I'm different from the other Deadmen.

[One of these days, I totes want to dissect you...]

Are you, in your opinion?

[He shakes his head.] No. We're all in the same situation.

Prisoners? I think you mentioned something about that.

[Ooops, poked him with a drugged stick... totally a mistake]

Sorry.

[But look, it's starting to open.]

Yeah. We're all there because of our powers.

[He flinches again, and shakes his head a little, forcing himself not to touch the spot he got poked in this time. He hasn't noticed yet that it's starting to open.]

A research facility?

[He pulls the color open slowly, examining the mechanism closely so that he can make a duplicate later.]

[Ganta puts a hand to his neck. It feels cold, but he reasons that's just because he's had that collar on for weeks and weeks, so he's not used to having his neck exposed anymore.]

A research facility disguised as a prison.

[He looks up, notices the Major examining the collar, and holds out his hand for it.]

Thank you very much for your help.

How cruel. [Thinking clever...]

[He smiles and sets the collar in his hand.] Don't mention it.

[He stands up, holding the collar at his side.] Maybe I can return the favor someday.

[But not by giving you the collar. Creeper.]

[Smile] I was just glad to help.

[Ima make a new one. Sucker.]

[Ganta gets the door for him.] I'll see you around.

[Damn you, Major. o9"]
