A Promise for the World to Hear [Semi-Open]

Who: Lithuania ([livejournal.com profile] watchful_knight), Poland ([livejournal.com profile] reckless_eagle), and open to those with invitations.
Where The tearoom nearest the library.
When: From 3 in the afternoon, on Saturday, the 6th of June (backdated slightly).
Rating: PG.
Summary: Poland and Lithuania formalize their intent to wed. This involves a party, natch.
the Story:

It was a bit of a confusing situation--not a marriage, exactly, since for one thing, that wasn't what a betrothal was, and for another, they were technically married already. All the same, the atmosphere in the tearoom would have been appropriate for a wedding... only appropriate, considering the importance of a proper betrothal to Poland and Lithuania. As far as Poland was concerned, something like this was quite nearly as legally binding as a wedding, and it marked their commitment no less clearly.

Poland had taken charge of the decorations, draping the tables in pretty cloths and filling the room with flowers. Here and there among the bouquets, there was one plant in particular that might have seemed a little out of place to some guests--rosemary, filling the air with a warm, slightly spicy scent. Along the side walls, there were tables set up, lined with expensive cloths and covered in refreshments--food to one side, drinks to the other. The food consisted largely, though not entirely, of desserts made by Lithuania; the drinks were mostly alcoholic, an impressive assortment of beer, wine, mead, and vodka that Poland in particular considered essential to a proper celebration.

In the center of the room was a small table, with a loaf of bread, a bottle of wine, a small goblet, two candles, some salt, and a neatly-folded white scarf. Nearby, Poland and Lithuania waited. The ceremony was ready to begin.

[OOC: How this is going to work is that we'll have a closed thread for the ceremony (Julio, Hubb-mun, could you toss me an IM? Something I'd like to discuss with you about that...), an open one for guests to give their blessings and congratulations in, and an open one for mingling at the after-party. Sorry this is up so late!]

The ceremony wasn't as long and boring as Iceland predicted it to be. It's a good thing, since he can't really stand long and boring ceremonies. Not that it's obvious. He has to live with that, after all. For the occasion, he was dressed in proper attire; a smart black suit with a navy blue tie. There's no need to be elaborate. After the ceremony was over, he approached Poland and Lithuania and offered a hand. He doesn't bring a present because you know, he sucks at picking presents.

"Congratulations."

Have an awkward small smile, Poland and Lithuania. I hope you don't mind that.

"Thank you." He took the hand, and instead of shaking it squeezed it firmly for a moment, smiling. "Thank you for coming as well."

"You're welcome."

He doesn't really mind the squeeze, and trying to make his smile less awkward.

"I didn't bring any presents. I'm sorry."

"It's alright." He throws a short glance in Poland's direction and laughs a bit awkwardly. "We weren't sure what everyone was used to from home, we just assumed that gifts would be a common part of the event."

"Well, it would be a common part of the event." A short pause, and he looked down awkwardly before continuing in a lower tone than before. "It's just that I'm not good at picking gifts."

"I'm sure you aren't as bad as some of my nobles." He laughed, his eyes shining with amusement and fondness. He missed his people, every single time that he thought about them. "Some of their presents at occasions like this seem to be made for someone who lives in an entirely different place like Italy."

"Well, that's...amusing." Obviously, he's not as bad as them. At least he's not going to give Lithuania something that should be given to Italy. "I guess I wouldn't give you something like that."

Every Nation missed their people, but with Iceland, it's not obvious.

"See, you aren't that bad." He smiles softly. "And you thought about it, and that means a lot, too."

"I guess so."

He looked down and mumbled something that sounds like "thank you".

"I hope you're enjoying yourself?" Changing the subject might be better.

Yes, it's better because he doesn't know what else to say if Lithuania kept pressing on the subject of presents. More over, the awkward-o-meter almost explodes. He glanced around a bit and finally meeting the other country's gaze before answering.

"I am, yes."

That's a half-lie, but he has to be polite, right? At least the party wasn't as noisy as he was expecting it to be. Meriken was the one who ruined it for him.

There were reasons why he was glad that Meriken wasn't present. Hadn't have to be present.

"That is good. Please, if you need anything, tell me, I'll see to it."

She was present, but Iceland left her somewhere in the party. She probably had gotten drunk or something.

"No, I don't think I need anything." He shook his head. "But thank you."

Lithunia nodded in response and wanted to leave when he remembered something. "I've meant to ask for a while now. Do you have horses in your place?"

He was about to leave as well, to check up on Meriken, but it seems like the other country still haven't done talking yet.

"You mean back home?"

"Yes." It was only a short thing, and he wanted to keep it short.

"Well, I have. Why do you want to know?"

"If you have a horse here... Us and AMerica are going to build a stable, you could put it in there. too."

"Oh, okay. Thanks."

"Just tell me when you need it." And then he's gone.
