Who: Delta and Jack Ryan.
Where The woods.
When: During the event. Late night.
Rating: PG.
Summary: Everyone's tired. :l
the Story:

This event was worrisome. Delta was absolutely and utterly exhausted, but every time he tried to relax the phantom explosions woke him up. His mental faculties were about as sharp as a buttrknife at the moment. Maybe going for a walk would help him clear his head.

He opened the door to his room and left. Delta virtually had to move a swarm of kittens away from the door's opening before he exited. A half empty pack of cigarettes was in his right hand along with his PDA. His rivet gun was also slung on his back as usual.

Delta wandered down onto the main floor and exited the mansion. He then meandered into the woods. Not many people would be up at this hour, but just in case he moved a bit further into the forest before settling down on a tree trunk. He put the cigarettes and the comm's device on the log.

Unfortunately, Jack was creepin'

Jack had nothing better to do than stare out the window, since he certainly wasn't sleeping. He saw Delta head out into the woods and blinked himself out of his stupor--maybe a nice midnight chat with Johnny would be just the thing. It would break the monotony, and he'd come to find these talks with his friend quite soothing.

It was cooler at night now, and Jack took a moment to stagger upright and put on a sweater before yawning into his elbow and calling a soft "C'mon" to Celeste. From there, he headed out into the night.

Delta's silence was broken by the soft sound of footsteps against the leaflitter, quiet and rocking, the sound of someone accustomed to moving with stealth but not trying to be stealthy.

they dozin'

Jack didn't look much better. Once he reached a tree near enough to converse comfortably with Delta, he staggered and leaned against it, eyes sliding half-shut. Celeste, close at his heels, bared her teeth in an enormous doggy yawn.

"Holding up okay?"

"I'm all right. I don't know why I didn't think to come out here earlier. I don't like it in there, with all the machines and the wires and the tubes. It makes me--"

He shuddered.

"I just don't like it. Maybe I'll just stay outside for the rest of the event."

He smelled rather strange, and he was very large indeed, but Celeste sensed no unease from Jack, and stretched her nose out cautiously. Upon reaching the giant's finger, she flinched back, then cautiously sniffed, her tail beginning to wag.

"Why not? It's just for another day or so."

She huffed through her nose, momentarily discomfited at being stroked by what was clearly not an ordinary hand--but then, upon reflection, or such reflection as the pup was capable of, it was also a hand full of interesting textures and scratchy bits, and she warmed to the situation quickly.

"That's all right. I'll go collect some food from the kitchen, and we can stay out here. Can't we?" His gaze was almost pleading; camping trip indeed.

"I can help you feed them."

Despite the exhaustion and obvious discomfort of the event, Jack's eyes gleamed with excitement.

Oh, this was nice. Celeste let her tongue loll out happily.

"I'd better make her stay, she might chase the kittens." And he clicked his tongue, causing the pup to drop to her haunches.

And off we go to feed kittens, which we shall say was uneventful. Jack, meanwhile, exited the mansion with a collection of curtain rods and bedsheets, explaining to Delta with sleepy enthusiasm exactly how he was sure he could make a tent.

"Yes." Jack, clearly feeling better with something to do, has begun digging small holes in the earth and trying to jam the curtain rods into them. "I don't think the Mansion would let us burn down the forest."

"In pictures," Jack suggested helpfully, "they put a circle of rocks around the fire. Do you think that would help?"

[identity profile] kindly-done.livejournal.com 2010-09-12 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack cast a critical eye across the setup--not that he could have found fault with Delta's firebuilding, as it was burning merrily away--it was more as if he was evaluating the aesthetics.

They met with his approval; he broke into a delighted grin.

"It looks great!"

Equally awkward, Jack opened his mouth, then shut it again. Shoulders hunched with embarrassment, he looked away and mumbled, "You can go have a smoke if you want. I won't look."

"Yeah, but I know you don't like it."

"It's not silly," he says simply, and turns away, putting Celeste in his lap.
