Summary:

Ryuho was looking through the library for something to grab his interest. Wonderland had been quiet, and it seemed a good time to get some research done, not to mention get the long workless hours that had to be filled. Overall, he had to deal with the infuriating concept that was dating, and there wasn't a single person he could ask except the person in question....

He sighed and pulled another book off the shelf to flip through.

Mukuro outright ignores Ryuho's statement, instead systematically choosing a few of the books, inspecting their spines, and placing them back.

"Kufufu...I might not have guessed that otherwise," the Illusionist retorts with a smile, finally looking at him. "Any recommendations?"

"What do you like to read?"

He glances over at him. "If you haven't read "Alice in Wonderland" It's worthwhile."

"Plays are much more my poison, but I'll try anything once. And you?"

"When I have time to read for pleasure, I read history or about art. I usually read for work though."

"For work? That almost sounds boring."

Mukuro laughs dryly and picks up another book. "How exactly does someone with such an interesting power sit behind books all day for work?" He looks thoughtful for a moment. "Or was that part of the dream as well?"

"It is what it is."

"I don't, but reading is sometimes necessary. I usually do fieldwork."

"Fieldwork with something that you describe just being 'is'? Hah!" He looks generally interested in this. "It was enough to drive that Kyouya to worry."

"I have no feelings about it, it was my duty. At least, it was until a few months ago." He replies in a bland monotone.

But that's quite alright. Mukuro has more than enough feigned emotion in his voice for the both of them, and he's making sure to use it all at this moment.

"And you won't indulge me an explanation - perhaps even some insight? Hah, what a killer. Though," he trails off for a second. "I suppose that figures with you."

"You didn't ask. And alter user works by disintegrating matter and reforming it into an alter with his mind."

He looks at him suspiciously. "What do you mean by that?"

"Kufufu...I didn't mean anything by that, really. I just recall you being the man of many monosyllabic answers."

"In the future I'll quite make sure to be direct when I want to know something."

"I suppose."

"In the future? So, nothing now?"

"Exactly," he smiles.

"And depending on how you look at it, it might as well be the future now. Or do you not agree...Ryuho, was it?" Mukuro finally puts the book he's been holding back on the shelf.

"You have a complicated way of thinking. The future is the future." His face remains blank.

"Mm," Mukuro shrugs. "Maybe. Be it now or the future, it seems my curiosity is still present. So I think I will directly find out."

Reality means nothing to Mukuro, so really, it's as if he's had his weapon the entire time. Trident mysteriously in hand, though just the sharp end--practical and all--, he lunges forward and takes a swipe at the other's cheek. He's unwilling to play trial and error to this so going straight for blatantly exposed skin will have to do.

Ryuho has good reflexes, but he's caught off guard and Mukuro scores a shallow hit across his cheek which draws blood. He staggers back and falls into a stance to defend himself, not sure what brought that on.

Mukuro is grinning now and near on the verge of laughing. Following this, he proceeds to do absolutely nothing. That's right.

"That one will cost you, you know." He continues to beam at the other, or more precisely, at his work.

"What the hell are you babbling about?" Ryuho growls at him.

Mukuro is completely undeterred.

"I think I liked it better when you simply gave answers. And right now, my word is law...isn't that right?"

"It is." He answered before thinking about it, and was entirely annoyed that he said that. He flattened his mouth to a scowl, but moving to hit the smug bastard was impossible for some reason.

"Wonderful! It's much easier when we can agree on things." The illusionist takes a step towards Ryuho.

"Now if it isn't too much trouble, I have some questions for you. First, are you the strongest one in Wonderland?"

He couldn't even move a step away, much less attack him. He could glare, and he was doing that with all the power of his line-face.

He found he couldn't say something the illusionist didn't want, but he had no intention of answering him.
