the Story:

Filling out paper? No. Being professional? Nope. Izaya's spinning around in his very fancy leather chair and laughing. He was supposed to have a patient or something like that in this time slot (The work schedule having been thrown in a fit of uncaring sometime earlier in the day) but they're oh...2 minutes late. He's damn well entitled to what he wants in that time.

It's a very tedious job.

"Then what happened to her?"

"She rigged everything. She had someone on the forensics team who cleaned up the evidence." He's on the edge of his seat. "She called me at the hospital!"

"Aikawa, do you ever talk to yourself?"

The change of topic throws him off a little. "To...to myself? I don't know...maybe. Sometimes."

"Then," he leans forward on his desk, "Do you think that maybe, using something familiar, you talk yourself through your trauma? And some things were changed along the way?"

"...Are you saying...." He stops and shakes his head, looking down for a minute. When he looks back up, he's glaring at Izaya.

"You think I talked to these rabbits and made Rei up so that Mitsuki wouldn't be at fault?"

"It's only natural to protect yourself and your friend. Maybe she was just doing the same for you."

"What does that mean?"

"I'm suggesting that the Rei there was very real. To you. Because you created her to cope."

".....You think I killed the others?"

"Of course not," he grins and pushes away from the desk, the chair just slightly moving back.

"After all, you'd already said it 'wasn't Mitsuki's fault'."

"What do you mean?"

"I think that she did it for you."

"W-why would I want them dead? I barely even knew them!"

"Wouldn't it be easier then? If you didn't have a strong connection to them?"

"I'm not-- I don't kill people! And I'd never make Mitsuki kill people either!"

"Then maybe you didn't make her," Izaya says casually, shrugging. "Did you just have to ask her? Did she misinterpret something you said? You really should be careful about that sort of thing, Aikawa."

"Mitsuki isn't like that!"

"Are you sure? Or are you saying that because you don't want to face the facts?"

"I'm sure! I've known here since we were little kids."

"You know, it's strange really." he grins before casually knocking one of the rabbits over - the footless one. "I can't help but think this all relates to your childhood in some way."

"...How?" He is really starting to hate those rabbits.

"You're the one to keep bringing it up."

"It's to make a point!"

"I wouldn't fault you for excuses you know."
