Who: Spencer and [OPEN]
Where: The library
When: 4th March, mid-morning
Rating: PG - PG-13? Depends what happens
Summary: Because Spencer needs to occupy herself somehow
the Story:
Spencer heaved a sigh as she pushed open the door to the library, pausing to readjust the straps of the book-bag she carried so that it rested properly on her shoulder. That, at least, was something the closet had got right though that didn't make up for the pile of utterly useless books Spencer now found herself hauling to the library. Apparently the closets of "whatever you want" found it difficult to distinguish between wanting a specific book and wanting any old book it could throw at her. This had left Spencer with, among other things: a guide on fishing, translations of Catcher in the Rye in French, Spanish, German and Japanese (despite Spencer's basic at best knowledge of Spanish and even worse knowledge of German and Japanese) and a book she couldn't even begin to fathom based on it being in no language recognisable to her.
Thus Spencer's trip to the library now, which in fact served two purposes. First of all, she was hoping to find someone to hand the books off to in case anyone else might get more use out of them than her. Then she was hoping to find a copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland or, failing that, anything that would help her feel that she was doing something productive. Not seeing anyone immediately available, Spencer placed the book-bag on a nearby table before venturing further, tentatively calling, "Hello?"

Seimei frowns then turns a page. He had no reason to be mean to the person whose voice he just heard. However, kindness from him had become a kind of gift used sparingly to those who were useful or interesting to him. His tone isn't overly unpleasant but firm enough to give it a sharp edge.
"If I told you no one was here would you leave?"

As she spoke, Spencer walked towards the source of the original comment. Spotting the stacks of books she couldn't help but smile a little to herself. She knew only too well how irritating it could be to be interrupted in the middle of a study session; she knew, therefore, there was little time for plesentries.
"I'm not here to disturb you, if that's what you're worried about. I was just wondering if there was anyone who looked after this place or whether I can just add some books in myself."
She continued to scan the room, trying and failing to spot any such caretaker of the library and not wholly expecting that she would get a response from the figure currently surrounded by what seemed to be textbooks.

"There was one person once. She's gone now and some of the order in this place has been lost because of it. You're on your own. If you don't like the system why don't you spend some time at the market instead? Specific books have been easier to locate for me there. It's also useful to trade in Library books that you've finished for new ones. If you get something useful out of the closet I would keep it even if it's small."
The sacrifice had quite a collection of books in his room, walls of poetry, literature, and historical classics all from various places along with a heavy section of medical texts and the occasional mystery or fantasy. However this was a private collection therefore it was safe from the mansion's persistent rearranging.

Brushing some hair from her face, she backed up the tiniest bit. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to chase you out or anything. I can always come back another time." After all, away from her regular life Spencer had nothing to really occupy her time so much that she couldn't come back to the library whenever she wanted.
Still, her interest was piqued as he mentioned the market. Somehow, even though she knew the vendors were there, the thought hadn't crossed her mind that they might be able to help her. Nor had it crossed her mind that books might be useful currency for said vendors. "Thanks. I hadn't thought of that. I guess that's useful to know should I ever need something specific in a hurry."
Eager not to remain a disturbance, Spencer moved to collect her book bag. "Thanks for your help."

"Thank you, I appreciate that but it's time that I head back to my room. I'm late for a very important date."
The last part came out a little dry for the sake of the pun. He sets down a book in front of her on Gout.
"I'm done with this one. You would be doing me a favor if you sold it. I haven't got an interest in anything else at the moment."
no subject
As he set the book down before her, Spencer's eyes widened. "Are you sure? I mean, with what you just said about the vendors..." Grateful as she was, Spencer wanted to be certain that he wasn't acting through any percieved need to provide for her. She doubted that was the case, but it always paid to double check.

"Medical texts are expensive. They fetch good prices when they're sold. You can get a lot of books for the price of this one and I quite literally have shelves. But if you don't want it then I can take it with me, it was a random whim to offer it to you in the first place."
no subject
Motioning to the book bag, she added, "You're welcome to see if anything interests you. I barely even understand half of the covers but there might be something useful."
no subject
"I'm sorry there isn't anything I want there but thank you."
He was trying to be polite. She had at least earned the motion of the act but not the genuine feeling behind it.

Hopping down from the top level of shelves and landing on his feet, he goes over to the tables where he heard the voice.
"Yes?" he asked in Japanese, looking up at the girl, his big eyes, and bigger glasses viewing the features. He re-said 'yes' in English this time, knowing she was not Asian.

It was unlikely, she knew. Especially with previous information at the back of her mind. But once again, she put aside her skepticism because, once again, this was Wonderland.

He shook his head and continued in his child tone. "There doesn't seem to be a librarian here, but I've been here for some time. I still can't understand the layout at all though since it moves every time," he replied, slightly frowning. "But when you want something it usually pops up in the next shelf." Which was even more discerning since...well...it wasn't explainable.

Glancing around the tall shelves crammed with books, Spencer nodded as this new face explained how the library worked. "That's good to know. I'm sure you could spend weeks trying to find one book otherwise." Turning back to face him, she continued, "Actually, I was just coming by to see about donating some books I've acquired in the short time I've been here. They're...not exactly what I was hoping they would be." Which was putting it mildly, to say the least.

[ooc note: in addition to those in the OP, there are another half-dozen or so that are conveniently nondescript and are thus whatever we need them to be]

He hears Spencer from where he's sitting cross-legged on a table, elbow on one knee and his face propped up on his hand, but he waits until she comes within sight of him to respond.
"Are you looking for someone specific? Because that's a pretty fucking vague way of doing it if you are."
Despite the critical words, his tone of voice is bored at best.

Shrugging off the mild disgruntled mood, she turned to answer his question. "I have some random books I needed to get rid of. Closet mishap. Wanted to see if there was anyone I should leave them with."
no subject
He shrugs and unfolds his legs. "Just leave them I guess. The hive will do whatever it wants with them."
Playing with tense styles ftw
Nodding as he says just to leave them, Spencer leans against a nearby bookshelf. "I guess I'll have to. Since no-one seems to actually be in charge of this place."
ffff sorry, I default to present tense
Oh no, sorry, that wasn't aimed at you. It was my lack of consistency xD
[Of course, she still doesn't fully understand the ways of the multiverse]
