Who: Souji [
eatsyourscience] and Peacock [
bureaucracy_is_for_chumps]
Where: The library
When: Sunday afternoon
Rating: PG for unforgivable curses
Summary: Peacock catches Souji doing something and he overreacts.
The Story:
A Hogsmeade weekend presents Souji with a perfect opportunity to enter the restricted section of the library without anyone asking questions or noticing his presence or what he chose to look at. He wasn't by nature a deceptive person, but he was intensely private about a lot of things. Especially the Dark Arts.
His family was a proud one, pure-blooded going back as far as they were able to trace it, and the single most important tradition passed down to him had been that intentions mattered more than methods. Not everything with dark origins was dark inherently. He reminded himself of that often; whenever he faced the assumptions of other students about his house, for instance.
But some things were never going to be acceptable, not even to his own family, and those things were therefore better attended to in secret.
No one was ever going to accept that the creation of a horcrux might be necessary. Bringing the subject up with his parents had been a disaster from which he almost hadn't escaped; he had absolutely no doubts that there was no one at Hogwarts who would answer his questions, if they even knew what he was talking about.
But that didn't mean that the information wasn't there. The school held secrets that he was sure even the ghosts didn't know about.
The halls were deserted as he slipped into the library--only first and second years remained in the castle, and most of them were occupied with copious mounds of homework due Monday. As he'd expected, there was no one in the library. He stalked along the aisles, checking each row, just to make sure, before he ducked into the restricted section. He'd noted a few titles and authors, written them on his hand and forearm--books that might have the information he wanted as well as books to avoid. Books that were better left untouched, for his own sake.
He stands at the bookshelf to read, not wanting to stray too far in case anyone does come into the library. At first he's hyper-vigilant. Every creak, every rustle, even the sound of his own breathing makes him look around in suspicion. But as he searches through the texts, his attention becomes absorbed by what he's reading and he stops hearing the little sounds of the castle around him.

It seemed as good a time as any to study up on some healing charms, she supposed, or perhaps actually look into some potions books to make up for skipping class on the days that she had her feathered friend Cluckles... who unfortunately had come up missing before she went to sleep Saturday night. She wasn't quite sure where she was, but a glowing rainbow chicken couldn't be too hard to find in Hogwarts.
So she strolled through the library she paused. Those heavy doors weren't usually open, were they?
No, the definitely weren't. After a moment of hesitation she heads into the usually locked area and her eyes widen at what she sees. "...Souji? What the hell are you doin' in here?"

"Crucio!"
It was a reflex, ingrained by training he'd received outside of school, and it was a full half-minute before conscious thought wrestled back instinct and he did realize. But that was still thirty seconds of white hot hell for her.
With a jerk, he lowered his wand and stared, waiting for a response.

Every muscle in her body felt like it was contorting and the pain surging through her was immense. Her eyes rolled back and her knees locked as she fell to them on the ground. It felt like an eternity--nothing but white, searing pain tearing her apart.
She choked and right when she felt she couldn't draw another breath she did--and she fell to her side on the floor gasping for the air around her. Everything was dark and blurry. The ground felt like it was falling beneath her. The sound she makes comes after a long silence isn't understandable, but the words after are choked out and uneven in their pitch.
"Orange...bluesgreens...fanning veil..."
The words didn't even make much sense to her.

Souji goes over and kneels beside her, one hand on her shoulder.

"Get away..." Her eyes look hazed over even though she's staring straight at him.

"NO! You'll get hurt," it was obvious that she wasn't entirely sure what just happened.
no subject
"You'll be okay."

Nothing but murmuring against his shoulder. Something about feathers and crowns.

He laid her on the bed and went to find someone to help.
