Summary: Fish do not hum. Trees do not smell like butterfly milk
The Story: Being transported from Storybrooke to Wonderland really should have been enough. But no, he was taken to yet another world. Luckily Evelyn already told him a little about this, or he would've been very off-footed. Of course Whale still was off-footed. Just less so.

After getting over the bright colors, Whale started really taking a look around. The trees weren't like any he ever saw before. He reached out and felt a tuft between his fingers. Odd, but it was soft as silk. Whale plucked it to examine it closer. He caught the faintest whiff of something. He couldn't place the scent. Whale tucked it into his pocket so he could take it back to his lab.

He continued on his walk and saw three... fish? On land? Whale gaped at them in surprise. The surprise grew to outright shock when they actually waved to him and started humming. Humming. He needed to get his hands on one of those things.

"Well yeah. Mom's not here." A pause as he realised he wasn't very specific. "Either of them." It was still a strange subject to think about. Two moms etc but that was for another time.

"What's the point in being in a great place if you can't wander around on your own?" He didn't need to be side-lined like back home.

[jolting]

"It's no business of mine, I suppose," Whale shrugged, failing at childcare in record time. "Just don't drown."

Henry thought that was very cold hearted even after his childhood with Regina. But Whale wasn't his father and had never even been a father figure when growing up so it didn't bother him.

"I don't plan on it. Thanks."

[jolting]

He really needed to work on how to interact with people. But it wasn't something either Victor or Whale were very good at. He pursed his lips, trying to think of something less cold to say to this boy. Where was Ruby when he needed her?

"You know where to find me should you.... need something." That was better, wasn't it? He was offering help. Sort of.

Henry nodded. This is getting tedious. He was going to find some more bar-ba-loots.

"Yeah. Thanks." He smiled though, polite as always.

[jolting]

He decided he did his job as the responsible adult, and went back to studying the hummingfish. He would find some way to capture one eventually.

Henry had decided he'd done the polite thing of say hello and wandered off looking for someone to play with. Maybe someone new to meet.
