For such a small boy, he was very heavy. Whale should have calculated the weight of the automail beforehand, but it couldn't be helped now. Thankfully he had some experience with dead weight-- literally, due to his graverobbing. He took Edward's arm, lifting the boy so he would be slumped over Whale's shoulders.

Carrying that weight was going to be difficult but his room was close by. And this would look better than his other idea of dragging the boy by his ankles. Fewer people would question an unconscious boy slung over the doctor's shoulders.

Hopefully he would be out cold, because as soon as Whale got him into the lab he was strapping Edward down to examine the automail at length.
