Transcending limitations
Who: Doctor Whale and his victims test subjects or lab assistants
Where: Mainly his laboratory but probably other places too
When: During the science event
Rating: R more than likely
Summary: Doctor Whale doing science things and experimenting on people
The Story: He was always seeking answers, always wanting to push the limits. All this time in Wonderland and he never tried to really push those limits. But something about this particular weekend made him forego any restraint. He wasn't going to stop until he found answers.
If people got hurt in the process, he did happen to have Adam's healing blood. But before he got ahead of himself, he needed to find his subjects... Hopefully Luke wasn't too squemish, because Whale would need his assistant.

So much research, and so little time. At some point, Ed's taken off his gloves so his automail hand is definitely showing and he's written down a lot of stuff.
no subject
"Reading anything interesting?" he asked as he approached Edward.

He leaned forward, pretending to reach for the books. One hand was moving for the books while the other took out the taser he was carrying. Whale was going to press it to Edward's back, if he could, and drag the boy's body back to his laboratory.
no subject
Ed looks down at his books. "Well, I think I'm done with--" What he was saying gets cut off by a pained yell when the taser hits and he slumps over because tasers? Not fun.
Have fun with the two hundred and forty pounds or so of dead weight. That automail is heavy and adds quite a bit to Ed's weight.

Vincent Valentine
sorry this took so long. c:
He struggles to keep calm, but he finds himself flashing back to times when he's been in this same position before, and he doesn't like it. Hearing a noise to the side, he clenches his fist and his claw and tries to keep his breathing steady, determined to control the transformative process - he'll let himself go in a few moments, determined to try and get out of -- whatever this place is, but first a little information...
"Who's there?"
no worries :3
"I wasn't sure on the dosage of tranquilizers... I'm glad to see I didn't over-estimate."
no subject
"Who are you and what do you want?" he hissed, pulling at the straps that held him down, both to test their strength and in some possibly vain hope that they weren't strong enough.
no subject
"When I found you, you were... different. Some sort of giant creature. You looked familiar so I thought it was safer to put you down and take you into my lab." Not entirely true, but not a complete falsehood, either.
no subject
"Let me go or you will find yourself facing him again... or something worse..."

River Tam
wow I did not see this I am sorry 8(
So she seeks him out. She knows the desire is mutual, knows that he has to find answers too. The result is mutually beneficial, so she volunteers. She goes to the laboratory and she knocks until she considers it enough warning, then barges in without a second thought.
"Will he look.? She needs to find out, there's so many questions without answers. He's a man of science, he should know how to make anatomy talk."
it's okay :D
"I do," he agreed, "but I don't want to do anything invasive, River." After all, she helped with Ruby. He felt a sort of comradiere with her. "Perhaps we can begin by reading your brain activity and go from there."
no subject
It's a slight relief to hear him say it though. It's not easy to do this, and if it weren't for the burning desire to know, and to understand, she'd be about as far from here as humanly possible. With that assurance in mind she walks in further, carefully but with slightly less tension than before.
She's nervous. Hell, she's scared, but she has to know.
"Amygdalae, if he's curious. That's where he should look first. That's where they prodded first."
no subject
"The area of the brain responsible for memory and emotional reactions," Whale mused. "River, I'm going to be attaching probes to your head. It won't hurt, I promise."
no subject
That doesn't mean she finds it any easier in the laboratory though, and flinches slightly as they walk in. She doesn't quite pull away from him, but the slight jerk of her arm is hard to miss.
"Attach them, see the mistakes. Tell Simon what he finds, maybe they can make a cure." She suggests the idea quietly as she finds a suitable place to sit, glancing carefully around the room and trying to keep herself relatively calm. She's all but given up hope at a cure, but there's a slight glimmer next. If anyone could help her brother find it, it would be Whale, right?

Helen Magnus / Luke Smith

So eventually, she went to look for the good doctor, to see what he was up to this fine day.
no subject
"Helen, good to see you," he said. "Come, I was just about to start the tests." He gestured for her to approach. There was more protective equipment available should she find it necessary.
"What we have here is what appears to be a normal sample of human blood. But it's more than that... This blood is from the man who resembles me, Adam Monroe. He claims that his blood can heal anything. Today we're going to see if that's true."
no subject
Normally, he wouldn't have minded. It was only fair, since he didn't yet have a piece of paper that let him strong arm people into calling him 'Doctor'. But today he had itchy fingers and thoughts that nagged at him during what should have been a basic set-up. There were such things he could do with his own experiments, if he just had the chance...
Still, he was anxiously keen to impress Whale, so those thoughts were easily suppressed for now. Although he did give Helen a quick wave and a cheeky grin when she appeared in the doorway.
no subject
She noted the differences in Dr. Whale's appearance, but made no outward sign that she had. Instead she inclined her head towards him and motioned Luke forward as well. Time to begin his scientific training. Besides, they could likely use the extra hand.
"How shall we do that?" While she normally wouldn't have agreed to hurting themselves or anyone else to test this theory, today she was feeling a bit... lax in her normal beliefs. How else would they find out, after all? The floor was open to either of them to answer if they wished.
"Do we know much about this man or his blood? Can we test its properties, look into the genetic structure it provides for clues?"
She had experience with blood injections, after all, and that was likely showing through at the moment. Later on, she would likely regret this, but at the moment she couldn't find it in herself to care.
no subject
"All he told me was that he could heal from almost anything." He fingered a tube filled with blood. "And that the ability was the result of evolution. Helen, I would appreciate your insights into the genetic side of this. Luke, you and I will observe the physical aspects of the blood's power. You aren't squemish, are you?"
Whale clearly intended to test the truth of this blood's healing qualities. And doing so required an injury.

Post Fear Gas (OTA)
He pressed the heels of his hands into his eyes but that didn't stop anything. He could hear things: screams, cries, his father's voice shouting at him. When Whale opened his eyes again he saw the world bend around him. Gerhardt strangling an innocent young girl to death, Daniel lumbering menacingly toward Henry.
And emptiness. No Ruby, Martha, Clara, Helen, Evelyn... People he grew to care for gone. He turned his face toward the wall as if hoping that would keep him closer to reality. It didn't.
