Summary: Eiri plans to take Shuichi out tonight. Shuichi ends up getting alot more than expected.
the Story:
Eiri had spent the entire day turning his room into a relaxing setting. He had taken a small table from the kitchen and placed it in the middle of the room- having pushed the desk and bed aside to make room for it. The table was set with china and expensive wine. Eiri cursed Yuuko under his breath as he lit a few candles around the room. How he had gotten this far into this he had no clue. Was a laptop really worth all this trouble?
Once the table had been set, Eiri changed in the bathroom. He was relieved that he wouldn't be picking Shuichi up in the pink sweater and instead dressed in a black pinstripe suit which the closet had provided him. Eiri didn't believe it was the mansion that had left the suit- but Yuuko. Checking himself in the mirror, he adjusted his tie. He still had the earring on his ear, and oddly enough, it matched with his suit.
Even though Eiri had finished getting ready well before 8, he had waiting until later on in the night to get Shuichi. It had taken him a while to coax himself into pulling this night off.
Leaving his room, he headed to Shuichi's hoping that he would be dressed in nice attire like he told him to be. Knocking on the door, Eiri rested next to it waiting for Shuichi to answer.
Ever since he'd gotten the message from Eiri to dress nicely, Shuichi was curious as to what had been planned. It's not like they could really go out anywhere since.. well, there was really nowhere to go. But he wasn't about to ask too many questions and risk pissing Eiri off. He'd really learned how to control doing things like that since his little 'vacation' with Eiri.
Shu found himself wondering just what was 'nice' enough to wear since he really didn't even own anything that would be considered remotely 'nice' by Eiri's standards. When he looked in the closet, though, he was surprised to find some new clothes waiting in there for him. A plain black suit that was made of some sort of material that looked shiny when placed in the right light. And along with it was a dark blue, button down long sleeved shirt.
Guess that was what he'd be wearing tonight. He put it on, managing to still look relaxed in the suit. And then he waited. When Shu finally heard the knock on the door, he shuffled over to it and opened it slowly, his head poking out cutely.
Eiri looked over at the door and saw Shuichi peeking through it. Pushing himself off the wall, he grabbed Shuichi's hand pulling him out the door. He planned to take Shuichi on a walk before sitting down to dinner with him. Maybe it would be easier to 'talk' to him. "You look..normal." In fact, Eiri thought Shuichi looked cute tonight, and if you
looked at the suit in the right light, it appeared to be shiny.
Eiri wondered if it would be too late to back out now...
When Shu felt himself being tugged out of the room, he gave a little squeal. Looking up at Eiri, She managed to give a weak little smile. After all, he didn't exactly know how he should act around Eiri anymore. They hadn't really gotten back together. In fact, neither of them had even thrown the idea out into the open. That was partially because Shuichi was afraid of being shot down by Eiri. Which was strange because when had Eiri saying no ever stopped Shu? Then again, he figured maybe that's one of the reasons Eiri hated him so much at times. Because he didn't know when to stop. But during their little 'vacation' together, Shu had learned to control himself when it came to things like that.
Looking around a bit, he nibbled on his lower lip nervously before looking back at Eiri. "So..."
Eiri was never the romantic type. He wrote romance for a living, he never had to be romantic. He was already in a suit, holding Shuichi's hand and leading him outside- that was usually as romantic as he got and even this was rare. For some reason, Yuuko's voice rang through his mind along with the ridiculous quotes she had taken from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. How in the hell was he going to tell Shuichi everything thats been on his mind lately.
Grumbling slightly, he opened the door that lead to a fountain and a courtyard. It was one of the few places that the plants were non-life threatening. Once the two were outside and away from prying eyes, Eiri began again, "You look.." was it that difficult for him to make a compliment to Shuichi? Swallowing whatever pride he had left, he finished with saying "..nice."
Shuichi hadn't said another word once Eiri started to lead him down the hallway. He figured he should just shut up for now and enjoy the fact that Eiri was even gracing him with his presence.
Now that they were outside, Shu looked around for a while until he heard Eiri saying something. And that's when his eyes lit up. Eiri was... complimenting him? This wasn't like him at all. Something had to be up. "Eiri.... are you... feeling okay?"
Eiri's brow furrowed, "Of course not-" He started, giving Shuichi a cold stare before he decided against yelling at him. Taking a moment to pause, Eiri ran a hand through his hair, closing his eyes and taking time to actually think of how Shuichi would react. Opening his eyes, his expression grew calm again, "Come on, lets go-" He reached his hand out for Shuichi to take.
Shuichi cringed a little at the stare Eiri was giving him. He knew that stare anywhere. That meant that Eiri was going to start yelling at him. But when he didn't hear anything, he cocked his head to the side. This wasn't like Eiri at all. And it was starting to scare him a little. Violet eyes trailed to the outstretched hand. Instead of taking it, he just looked up at Eiri's face. His voice dropped considerably. "....She put you up to this, did't she?"
Dammit. Apparently Shuichi wasn't that thickheaded at all. Eiri raised an eyebrow, "Is it that obvious?" He placed his hands in his pockets. Tonight definitely wasn't going as he planned. For one, he expected Shuichi to be the annoying brat he usually was- he was glad that wasn't the case for tonight. Two, he didn't expect Shuichi to figure out Yuuko was behind this, then again, with Eiri's apparent change of attitude it wasn't too difficult to realize something was up.
"Either way, I'm going for a walk."
"Eiri, I might be an airhead, but I'm not brain dead." It was painfully obvious that Eiri wasn't doing this of his own free will. And in a way, that hurt Shu.
"Did you get your laptop back?" he said, a slightly bitter tone in his voice. That's probably why Eiri was doing this. This had to be Eiri's 'payment' to Yuuko for getting the damn thing back. Great. Shuichi was being equated to a damn computer.
Shaking his head a bit, he just sighed and slipped his hands into his pcckets as he walked over toward Eiri silently.
Eiri stood still for a while. He looked out into the distance, a light breeze was blowing and caused the leaves of the trees to rustle. Without giving any notice to Shuichi, Eiri grabbed his hand, lacing their fingers together. "It was my decision to bring you out here. She didn't force me to do anything..." He said in a rather dull tone of voice. It was at this moment, Eiri found it the most difficult to talk to Shuichi. He was never one to expose the many layers beneath the hard exterior he built around him. On the surface, he was nothing but a heartless bastard. Breathing in the cold night air, Eiri kept his eyes on the trees
Shuichi's heart nearly skipped a beat when Eiri grabbed his hand like that. He was almost certain he'd wind up on the ground or something. But when he felt Eiri's fingers lacing with his own, he just looked up and gave a cute little pout. He knew Eiri was being sincere because he was looking away. Shu knew that Eiri didn't like to admit his feelings, and every time he came remotely close to it, he could never look Shu in the eye.
"Eiri... don't force yourself if you don't want to. I know how you feel... sort of."
"The walk, are you coming?" Eiri did want to tell Shuichi, but it was going to be a slow process. Sort of wasn't going to cut it this time. Sort of is what had made Shuichi seek Kitazawa out in the first place. Sort of is what caused alot of the problems in their relationship. Most of the time, if not all the time, it was Eiri who was to blame for the troubles the two faced. It was never his intention for things to go wrong the way they did. Perhaps, things would be alot simplier if Eiri could just tell Shuichi flat out. But, novels were one thing, reality was quite another.
"Y-yeah..." Shu forced a weak smile. There was no way he'd pass up an opportunity like this. This was a great start in starting to fix things between the two of them. He let Eiri take the lead, since he really hadn't been outside much and didn't really know where it was that Eiri wanted to go. Not that it mattered, though. All Shu cared about right now was that he was with Eiri and for now, things felt right again.
The two walked for a long time, passed the trees Eiri had seen in the distance before. Beyond the trees was a clearing, the moon hung low and gave off an orangey color. "It isn't always like this." Eiri pointed out, speaking as if he were talking about the moon but was in actuality talking about him and Shuichi.
Shu was silent the entire time they walked, not wanting to spoil the mood. When they came to the clearing, he looked up at the moon and sighed. In the back of his mind, he wondered if Hiro and the others could see the same moon. But that was probably impossible. This world... it didn't have any connection to thiers, did it?
His eyes fell on Eiri now, listening to what he had to say. Instead of saying anything, Shuichi simply nodded. Though, he wasn't exactly sure what Eiri was referring to.
Eiri glanced over at Shuichi, he knew Shuichi wasn't getting what he had to say because all he had done was given him a nod. "I meant this," He held up their hands slightly. Even though Eiri was fully clothed from head to toe, he hadn't felt more exposed as he did now. Even though he hadn't same much and he kept making indirect references, it was not every day he seeked Shuichi out to talk about their relationship. In fact, in many ways he had gone about it in a childish way. It was time to take responsiblity and reap what he sowed.
Shuichi smiled a little, the moonlight catching in his eyes and making them shine more than they usually did. For now he was happy. "I like it... when we're like this." He scooted closer to Eiri and looked up right into his eyes.
This is what he wanted. Just to be with Eiri and feel like he was actually needed. He didn't care if they fought for the rest of their lives, as long as he knew that deep down inside, Eiri really loved him.
Eiri's eyes rested on Shu's and lingered there, "Yea..me too." Shuichi's eyes shined like stars when the moonlight shone upon them. Taking a deep sigh, Eiri combed back a few stray pieces of hair in Shuichi's face. His eyes trailed back to the horizon. "Expectations usually lead to dissapointments. I've dissapointed you enough. I suppose its passed the point of forgiveness."
"Eiri... don't say that. You know I'll always forgive you. Besides, I'm the screw-up here, not you." Letting hs hand slip out of Eiri's, he wrapped his arms around the man in a tight embrace. His head rested against Eiri's chest with thier difference in height, but it just worked better that way.
Shuichi knew that no matter how many times he said he was sorry, there was no way Eiri could truly and completely forgive what he'd done. And he was ok with that. Being here in this place had taught him to be responsible for his own actions.
Eiri was suprised when Shuichi wrapped his arms around him. He stood there without any reaction whatsover. "My burden isn't yours to carry. I wasn't there for you." He looked down at Shuichi and all he saw was the mess of pink hair. Wrapping his arms around Shuichi, he held him tight afraid he might slip away from even the slightest breeze.
"You don't have to deal with it alone anymore. I'm here for you, Eiri. When you love someone, you share their joys, their sorrows, their pains... I just want you to let me be there for you. And in return, I just... want you to love me." He looked up again, his eyes shimmering still, but now it was because there were tears welling up in the corners. He'd been good and hadn't cried in a while... ok, a day or two, maybe. But it was better than him crying every other minute.
Wiping the stray tears from Shuichi's face, Eiri listened to what Shuichi had to say. All of it. He always knew Shuichi was there for him, he knew he would be there no matter how poorly Eiri treated him. "I know." Eiri dropped his arms to the side, trying to collect his thoughts. "I do..feel that way, Shuichi.." He felt like he was stumbling over his words. He was usually so casual about the way he presented himself and spoke.
"It's ok, Eiri. Just take your time.... because.. I'm not going anywhere." Hesitantly, he pulled away from Eiri and the reached up to rub away a few more tears. Of course he noticed the way Eiri was grasping for the right words to say, but he somehow knew what he meant. That's really all that mattered, though.
Something was tugging at the corners of Eiri's mouth. It had been ages since the man had smiled at all and the feeling of his lips forming into one was foreign to him. Alot of weight was lifted off his shoulders, he wasn't quite sure exactly what caused the weight..maybe it was his unwillingliness to see the truth and to speak it.
Seeing the smile forming on Eiri's face brought one to Shu's face as well. There was just something satisfying about being the one to make Eiri smile. And anyone who knew the man also knew it was a great feat to accomplish. Leaning up as much as he could, he placed a gentle kiss along Eiri's jaw, since he couldn't reach his lips.
"When are you going to start growing?" Eiri teased Shuichi when he gave him a kiss on his jaw. "Theres dinner in my room if you're hungry," he shrugged, placing his hands in the pockets of his suit jacket. He felt something square, it felt like a box, he also felt a small scroll attached to it. He didnt recall putting it there. Nevertheless, he was going to wait until morning to look to see what it was. Tonight, it was all about Shuichi.
