Summary: Shu goes to 'keep Eiri company' after he gets back from the forest.
the Story:

The thought of settling down never occurred to Eiri. At least not on a personal level of choice. He accepted the fact he would have been wed to Ayaka. The marriage was arranged, there was little he could do to influence any other outcome besides a ring on his finger and upholding the vows he was required to commit to. No, this was different and when Yuuko approached the question Eiri completely backed off. She had caught him off guard with the box containing the ring already. Thinking he was able to get rid of such difficult matters, he brought the box back to her...

He was now sitting on his bed, holding onto the box that he found on his nightstand. Running a hand through his hair, he let his cigarette burn without taking a drag- he was deep in thought. I can't even love him properly...

Despite how tired he felt from his little adventure through the forest, Shuichi was bouncing down the hallway excitedly on his way to Eiri's room. After not seeing him for a few days, it just made Shu that much more excited. Ever since they had gotten out of the room, things seemed to be looking up. Well, at least that's the way Shu saw things. He and Eiri hadn't been fighting as much as of late, and that just served to make Shu even happier.

Finding himself outside of Eiri's room now, he didn't even bother knocking. Instead, he just walked right in... or, more correctly, bounced in and headed straight for Eiri. Throwing his arms around the man, he forced him onto his back as he snuggled and hugged him excitedly. "Eiri!"

Eiri was opening the box when Shuichi barged in- without knocking and even more importantly without warning. Eiri's eyes widened and his cigarette fell from his mouth when Shuichi put his arms around him, the weight making him fall on his back on the bed. Shit. Eiri looked around for the box with frantic eyes- darting to the left, right, and back again. The box was no where to be found. "Haven't you heard of knocking!" Eiri groaned. Maybe if he kept Shuichi distracted enough to find the box himself, he could kick it under his bed.

"But Eiri, I thought we were past knocking!" Shu gave a slight pout and hugged Eiri even tighter. That's when he felt something digging into his ribs. Grumbling a little, he shifted and reached between his and Eiri's bodies and grabbed whatever it was that was causing the minor annoyance. That's when he saw what it was. The box was open and he saw the rings. Blinking, he cocked his head to the side and looked at Eiri curiously. "Eiri... what are these for....?"

This couldn't have come at a worse time. Eiri played it off the best he could. Shrugging he propped himself on one elbow while his other hand grabbed for the rings, "Some jewelry left in here." The rings however, were especially made and sized. They were also two male rings. No sign of a diamond ring.

Seeing that Eiri was going for the rings, he pulled away and hopped off the bed. Crossing the room, he stood by the door. If need be, Shu would make Eiri chase him down the hall and through the entire mansion to get these back. "Oh?" He said as he took out one of the rings, the one that was supposed to be his.

He wasn't in a mood to play. He cursed to Yuuko in his mind for giving him such a bothersome gift. "Oh What?" Eiri raised an eyebrow, still remaining calm in the hectic situation he found himself in. Shuichi wasn't smart enough to comprehend that ring was suppose to be his, was he? Of course, Shuichi always seemed to smarten up when Eiri didn't want him to. Standing up, he walked over to Shuichi placing a hand on the door so that he wouldn't be able to get out without trying to force the door open.

Seeing that Eiri was preventing him from escaping, Shu just looked over at him questioningly. Why would he go through that much trouble to make sure Shu didn't escape? Cocking his head to the side again, he brought the ring up close to his face and started to examine it. "You know Eiri, if you're worrying about Yuuko-san, then I guess that means these are ours, hm?" A small smile settled over Shu's lips.

Eiri grimaced at the mention of Yuuko's name. "These aren't meant for who you think they are. Stop jumping to conclusions," Eiri noticed the smile forming across Shuichi's lips. It was somewhat a devious one. He didn't know quite what to expect. "I'm going to return these," Eiri grabbed the box from Shuichi and snatched the ring that he was holding up to examine.

Shu pouted a bit and gave Eiri his puppy eyes. "You know Eiri, you're really bad at hiding things." He let Eiri take the ring back from him. Even if Eiri had them, even if it was Yuuko's doing, he knew that Eiri would never give him anything like that. Shu knew that Eiri wasn't really the type to... commit. At least not willingly. And as much as nice as it would have been, Shu accepted it. After all, it was sort of strange to think about.

Eiri placed the ring back in the box and pocketed it. He would make sure once Shuichi left he would hide the box where he couldn't find it. He looked up at Shuichi, his violet eyes were wide and glistening, and with the pout he was giving Eiri made him all the much cuter right now. "You're really bad at knocking," he looked down at Shuichi, staring him down as if reprimanding him.

"And you're really bad at trying to change the subject." Shu's expression changed to a cute, defiant glare. Sure, Eiri had gotten a tiny bit better with the whole avoiding questions thing, but Shu still hated when Eiri tried to change the subject on him. Especially when it was something as important like this. "It's ok, though. I know you'd never even consider something like that. I know Yuuko probably left those in here for you.... so... it's ok."

"Drop it already, Shuichi." Eiri gave him a slight eye roll. He couldn't just remain silent about it, could he? He always had to push Eiri to the limit. He probably only did it because he knew it bothered Eiri.

Sighing lightly, Shu looked away. "Fine..." he said as he walked over to the bed and took a seat. Bringing his legs up to his chest, he let his head rest on his knees as he just stared down at the floor.

Eiri rested against the door, "What have you been up to besides trying to get yourself killed in that forest?" Even if Eiri didn't learn much from their days locked up together, he was learning to treat Shuichi nicer and that included asking about his day.

"Nothing really. Sakuma-san is here. I wanted to go see him, but then I got caught up in that whole idea of mine to go into the forest, so I didn't get the chance. I wasn't as lucky as you were. Nobody found me... but then again, I just somehow wound up back here in my bed..." He looked over at Eiri again and gave a small sigh.

"What do you want now?" He knew Shuichi was hinting at something and he would keep at it until Eiri gave him. To save himself the headache, he walked over to the bed, sitting beside Shuichi and taking out a cigarette from his pack.

Shu's eyes followed Eiri as he walked over to the bed and sat down. Turning his body slightly to face him, Shu gave another little pout. "Eiri... am I really that much of an annoyance to you....?"

Eiri took a drag of his cigarette, not bothering if any smoke blew in Shuichi's face. He gave him a shrug, "Depends." It was an honest answer. Sometimes little things irked Eiri that really shouldn't have, and other times Shuichi did do annoying things.

Looking away from Eiri now, Shu reached up to rub at the back of his head. There seemed to be a lot on his mind now, none of which he wanted to bother Eiri about. Besides, he knew Eiri would only get annoyed with him, since most of it was about what had just happened.

He watched Shuichi mindfully. He wondered what was possibly going to come out of his mouth next. This night had already become awkward- for Eiri at least. He was never expecting Shuichi to see the box, ever. "It's getting late." Eiri put out his cigarette.

"Yeah..." he said dimly as he shifted himself. Letting go of his legs, he stretched them a bit. "I guess... I'll go. That way you can get some sleep." Shu figured that if he stayed, he'd only wind up annoying Eiri, and that was something he didn't want to do. After all, keeping his mouth shut wasn't a strong point with him.

"Suit yourself. You could have stayed if you wanted to." Eiri stood up, removing his shoes as he prepared for bed. He probably wasn't going to sleep. His mind had been reeling all day and it wasn't going to stop anytime soon. He took a seat on the bed rubbing his temples. Tonight was going to be rough. He didn't know where to begin in sorting his thoughts.

Frowning a little, Shu sighed again. Maybe he was making a mistake in doing this, but he scooted over to Eiri and snuggled against him. As if sensing the turmoil he felt, Shu planted a light kiss along Eiri's neck. "Stop thinking so much. You'll drive yourself crazy" he whispered softly.

Eiri closed his eyes when he felt the soft kiss on his neck. He snaked an arm around Shuichi's waist. "I already am," he didn't want to open his eyes. The way Shuichi was reacting to him now, he didn't want him to be able to read his eyes either.

"Is there anything I can do to help?" He kept his voice at a low, soothing whisper since he figured that would just be one less way of annoying Eiri. At a time like this, he wasn't going to take any chances. It was killing him inside, not being able to know exactly what Eiri was feeling, though he somehow knew what he was thinking about.

Giving Shuichi a lingering kiss on the lips, Eiri laid down on his back on the bed, resting his head on Shuichi's lap. He hated to be seen like this, it made him feel vulnerable. There were only a few times he was like this around Shuichi and usually Eiri was a mess during those times. "No, but I know you'll try anyway."

"I.... I'm sorry... I just don't like to see you like this. I mean, I'd like to see you happy, but you hardly ever smile. And sometimes I think it's because of me. I know I don't give you much of an easy time, but I can really help it. That's just the way I am..." Shu sighed out softly while he let his fingers sift through Eiri's hair soothingly.

"How long is it going to take you to realize I'm stuck with you. I would've left you already by now." Eiri didn't know how to explain it any better to Shuichi that he was here to stay, as he always was. From the beginning there was something about Shuichi and since Eiri met him it had always been that way. He could never quite explain it.

"When you put it that way, you make it sound like you've been sentenced to an eternity of torture..." Shu felt his heart drop a little. He knew that sometimes Eiri didn't mean to say things the way they came out, but it still hurt. Now he had to bite down on his lower lip to keep the tears from falling. If he started crying now, he knew he'd piss Eiri off.

What did he say now? He didn't mean for Shuichi to take what he had said and completely twist it around. Eiri gritted his teeth when he felt a tear drop that had fallen from Shuichi's eyes onto his face. He opened his eyes and looked up at the one crying before him. "Don't you ever run out?" Shuichi must have housed a factory in his body for specifically producing tears. Instead of getting up, Eiri's put his arm up, Shuichi could use the long sleeve of his shirt if he wanted. "Just don't get your snot on it."

Sniffling a bit, he just shook head at Eiri's offer and just wiped his eyes on his own sleeve. Slipping out from under him, Shu stood up and kicked his shoes off. Guess he'd be staying here tonight after all. Slipping his hoodie off, he threw it over the back of the chair before moving back over to the bed and laying next to Eiri.

Eiri rolled over on his stomach, he'd just lay there all night as long as Shuichi didn't bother him with more crying. Complicated as their relationship already was, it had just become more complicated. Eiri wasn't one to plan his future. He never had before. The possibility of what could be was better left un thought of and unspoken of.

Seeing Eiri just laying on his stomach made Shu just a little more uneasy. Sure, he never expected Eiri to comfort him or anything, but... well, he didn't really know anymore. He was just so much more emotional lately and he really didn't know why. Sliding closer to Eiri, he cuddled up next to him and tried to hold back more tears. Now wasn't the time for him to sob uncontrollably, but he felt it coming.

Not again..Eiri turned his head to the side to look at the mess of pink hair and the violet eyes and pathetic pout to go with it. "What?!" Eiri was getting aggravated again. He couldn't simply give it a rest, could he? On top of all the crap Eiri felt boggled down by this was the icing to the cake. He grabbed Shuichi's shoulders and gave him a look in his eyes. "Stop crying. You always cry. How do you expect anything to get done that way."

That just made Shuichi lose what little composure he had left. He gave a pathetic little whimper before he let loose and started sobbing. "I c-c-can't h-help it! If you were human you'd f-feel like this t-too if the person you loved treated you the way you treat me!" He turned away from Eiri at this point, only to bury his face in a pillow.

Here we go again. Eiri watched Shuichi make a fool of himself crying on his pillow like that. Maybe he should have been a little nicer about it. Shuichi was trying to pull a guilt trip on him now, but Eiri was so stubborn he refused to give into Shuichi's whining. Grumbling, he stood up, walked over to where Shuichi was and picked him up. He headed over to the door, right now he had every intention of making Shuichi sleep out in the hallway.

Shu felt himself being lifted up. Normally he would have fought it by kicking and flailing, but he just didn't feel like it. If Eiri really wanted to put him out in the hallway, then fine. Knowing him, that's probably just where he would stay, too. There was no use in fighting anymore. Instead, he just continued sobbing, tears streaming down his face as he whimpered.

Eiri dropped Shu at the door, opening it wide enough for him to squeeze through. "You're being a whiney brat. You're worse than a damn toddler sometimes."

"And you're worse than a cold hearted snake sometimes!" he spat right back at Eiri. Shu wasn't the only one that needed to change his ways. But Shu just sat there on the floor, head buried in his arms as he continued his sobbing. Looks like Eiri was gonna have to really try this time. Unless he wanted Shu at his door crying all night until he passed out at god knows what hour of the night.

Eiri kicked Shuichi lightly with his foot, which then resulted in him trying to push Shuichi out that way. "Since when did you get so damn heavy," Shuichi sat there like a rock as if he was planted into the ground. Finally giving up Eiri slammed the door shut. "I'm going to bed," he didn't look at Shuichi or even acknowledge he was there after that. Getting into bed Eiri pulled the covers over him before rolling over on his stomach. He shut the light off on the nightstand and hoped he could drown Shuichi out enough to get some sleep.

Shu just sat there now, wiping at his eyes as he quickly stopped his crying. Really, why did Eiri have to be so damn mean to him all the time. Pulling himself up off the floor, he made his way back over to the bed and slid under the covers with Eiri. "Even after all this... you still don't..." he stopped and gave a small sigh. "Never mind..." Turning over onto his side, he let his back face Eiri.

"Go to sleep already," Eiri's voice sounding muffled from the pillow in his face. Under the covers, Eiri grabbed for Shuichi's hand, giving it a light squeeze, "Don't make me throw you out again."

Feeling Eiri grab his hand, he just nibbled at his lower lip a bit, not really knowing what to do or say now. Instead, he just closed his eyes and tried to sleep. Because if he didn't, he'd probably just wind up getting Eiri mad at him and having to sleep in the hallway or something.
