Summary: Night Furies like caves, but they don't like being trapped.
The Story:


He hates it when the mansion changes. It's not a school this time, with a terrifying screeching creature in armor, but he's still trapped inside and that's not where he wants to be. And then, insult to injury, Toothless finds out — while scrapping with a spider that's far too big for his liking — that he can no longer breathe fire.

Take the fire from a dragon and you take its spirit, very nearly, but Toothless keeps himself on his feet.

This place, whatever it is, is dangerous. He can't let his guard down.

He patrols the shafts and listens for his Viking friends, utterly unconcerned about doors and where they may lead.

He spits onto the ground, getting the worst of it out of his mouth, before he looks back up and nods. Toothless has a size advantage on the creatures here, and he's been in many scraps before. That's something, at least. Toothless gives Souji a gentle nudge, looking at his arm with some concern.

Souji pushes his sleeve up to look at the bite marks on his arm. They're bleeding sluggishly.

"If I wrap some cloth around it, it should be okay." Or at least, it would stop bleeding.

He gets started on that, using part of his already shredded shirt.

"You're pretty good, you know." He's never seen Toothless in a fight before.

Toothless' eyes widen as his chest puffs out, and the Night Fury looks decidedly pleased by the compliment. He watches Souji's progress with the wound, all the same, but snorts quietly.

Souji uses his teeth to tie off the makeshift bandage.

"...There."

Souji shows his work to Toothless.

"I think...I'm going to rest here a little while." He sits down slowly, his back pressed against the wall. He's starting to feel a little feverish.

The Night Fury whines quietly, as opposed to his normal rumbling, eyes still wide. But this time, he looks worried, not proud as he did just a moment ago. He sits down, as if to communicate that he'll stay and watch over Souji as long as he sleeps.

Souji offers a small smile and after a moment, goes ahead and leans on Toothless. It's nice having a reminder that he's there. Being down here alone is stressful, even for Souji with his eternal calm.

Toothless lets out something that might be a sigh. So, the Viking is determined to sleep. All right. He holds still for him, warm despite his resemblances to a reptile, and keeps his ears perked for anyone approaching. And he stays that way as long as Souji needs him to.
