Where Elphie's room [313]
When: Whilst she had her migraine
Rating: PG for mentions of drug taking?
Summary: Rion attempts to help Elphie with her migraine with the only 'medicine' he knows of
the Story:
Rion walked through the corridors, looking for the room that that woman had said she was in. It was at times like this that he wished there was an easier method to getting to rooms than just randomly walking in a direction, and hoping it's closer to the direction you've come from, than the one you're heading towards. Fiddling awkwardly with the bracelets round his wrist, he glanced up at each door as he passed, glad that he was closing in on her room.
Reaching the door, he knocked several times, before dropping his arm to his side, and bringing out the small capsule he had brought for the woman. He had a doubt as to its effectiveness with her, as he'd never taken it as a general painkiller, but... It was worth a shot, even if that was a particularly bad choice of phrasing on his part.
Elphaba lay in her bed, her arm draped over her eyes. The knocking on the door only intensified the pain. She winced and grumbled something partly inaudible.
"ome n... ts pen!"
Pushing open the door, Rion stepped in, his bright blue eyes falling on the person in the bed. Staring at her for a moment, he walked slightly further into the room, unsure of what to say. Shifting his weight for a couple of moments, he figured that he just as well give her the delmetor, and whether it worked or not wasn't really his problem - the only ting that really bothered him, was whether or not it helped him.
Reaching the bed, he stood over her for a moment, waiting for her to show any sign of wanting to take the capsule from him - he wasn't about to just shove it in her hand and be done with it.
Elphie felt the presence in the room. She was really hoping it wasn't anyone like Xemnas or Saix to come and finish her off. She was vunerable right now, and perhaps she was foolish to make it known in her journal. She just wanted the migraine to go away.
She moved her arm away and seen a young man standing beside her. He looked a little frightened and anxious.
"hello..." her voice was low and breathy. "You must be Rion." she strained to sit up. Damn this pain! she thought, opening her eyes fully, the light blinding her
He nodded. "Yes," he replied simply. Holding out a pale hand, the blue and white capsule placed in the middle, he spoke again. "That's Delmetor. Like I said, it may or may not help, but it's better than nothing, I suppose," he finished, staring at her dully. He knew what it was like to have migraines, and if this was anything like his own, then she would be in a lot of pain. But, of course, he wasn't about to make guesses as to what her own migraines were like, because unlike his, they didn't manage to harm others at the same time.
He paused. "I dont take any- Uh, I don't take it with water, I don't know if you'd want water with it..." He added, remembering that most people preferred to take capsules with water.
She took the pill and smiled, as best as she could anyway. She opened her mouth and popped the little tablet.
"If they sent you here to kill me, I'll hex you." She said, half teasing half seriously.
She waited. and waited. and waited. The throbbing pain was there, the blurry vision was there. However, her ears. She couldn't hear a thing.
Her eyes widened and she started screaming. "I CAN'T HEAR!!"
Looking away from her and wincing in pain, Rion briefly rubbed the area around his ears, before looking back at her. He didn't understand how that had happened. If it didn't help the pain, then he hadn't expected it to have any effect at all. Narrowing his eyes, he stared at her, frowning. "The effect will only be temporary," he muttered. As for how long that 'temporary' would last, he didn't know. Taking a step back from her, he wished she would stop screaming - he had always had little patience with those who exagerrated things, and as far as he was concerned, screaming like this was exagerrating; It wasn't as if she was dying.
She couldn't hear what he said, but she was hoping he said it would only be temporary. "How long is this... temporary?" she asked, still a little loud, but not yelling. She pointed to a notebook on the table.
Rion glanced at the notebook, he couldn't remember the last time he had actually written something by hand. Glancing back at her, he shrugged, before turning his attention back to the notebook, and a nearby pen, holding the instrument akwardly in his hand. Writing down a reply, he frowned at his handwriting for a moment, before looking back at her, pushing the notebook before her. Probably not long. I've never seen thisaffect effect happen before. At least she had calmed down - made things a lot easier to deal with.
She squinted trying to read the writing. She laughed a little and murmured "You have horrible penmanship." Sighing, she looked at him. "Thanks for the try though..."
She couldn't hear. She could not hear a thing. In a way, she enjoyed the quite. She smiled "Do you have anymore of that?"
He frowned at her comment, although he couldn't help the slight blush that appeared on his cheeks. It had been so long since he had even seen a pen, let alone used one. At the latter comment of hers, though, he nodded. Of course he had more. He wasn't sure if he could even survive without it. There was a chance he could, but he was about to try and find out, even here, where the dead apparently came back to life - not that he was any stranger to that occurence.
Bright eyes blinking at her in confusion, he opened his mouth instinctively to speak, before remembering that she couldn't hear him, and took the notebook back, writing his reply instead. Yes. But why would you want more?
She laughed at his confusion. "I hate hearing the bickering, the annoying chatter in the halls. I enjoy this silence." she cocked her head.
"Isn't that why you take them? To escape pain?" she looked at him intently. The migraine was still there, but lessened. Apparently the lack of noise helped.
He nodded, understanding her meaning. When he had defeated Ash, and the Last Galerians, that had been all he wished for; silence, and he had gotten it, well, until now, obviously. As for the pain... That had mostly gone. He supposed it was due to the distractions and confusion of this place, and the fact that there were no other Galerians.
Looking away from her, and feeling the familiar unease, he fiddled with his bracelets, thinking over his answer before replying. In a way, he supposed he did, but the delmetor was taken to relieve physical pain. The others... He didn't know. It was just a habit, he guessed, a comfort. They had helped him defeat the Galerians, defeat Dorothy. Why should he stop? They were a part of him, he didn't know what he would be without them.
Once again taking the pain, he considered how to phrase his thoughts, something he had never been especially good at. Literally, andfigura metaphorically. They've always been They help with many things. It's hard to explain. To someone unaware of what a Galerian is, he added mentally.
She nodded as she read what was written. "It eases the memories too?" she asked.
This boy's unease was a little comforting. She missed the days when people would be uncomfortable in her presence.
"We all have things we want to forget. Sometimes its best that we don't."
Holding back a laugh, Rion shook his head. Eases the memories? What memories? There was so much of his life that he couldn't remember, and if he did remember, he couldn't trust whether it was true. Taking back the pad and pen, he wrote a short reply. This, he decided, was something he would never become comfortable with - this writing lark. It was just so... strange. And it made his hand ache, too.
No. Ihad don't remember a lot, so there isn't much to forget. I like what having memories I do.
He looked back up at her - she at least seemed to be feeling better. That was something, he supposed.
She nodded. "I see." all though she really didnt. The boy had no memories to surpress, none that he wanted to anyway. He didn't seem to be in any phsysical pain, so... Why?
She shrugged and stood. "I think I can finally go down and get some dinner. Want to join me?" she said, not even waiting for an answer. She walked toward the door.
He turned to face the door, surprised that she was inviting him along with her. "I take it you're feeling a lot better, then?" He questioned, wondering if she could hear now, if she was feeling that much better. Although, obviously migraine going and hearing returning were probably not related in her case, seeing as the delmetor had had such a strange effect.
"I-- If... Ok," he agreed. It would be nice to have some company, at least.
Elphie heard a faint mumble, she assumed it was his response. She turned her head and seen he was following her. Now if it was to leave her room, or to follow her to the dining hall.
They walked down the hall some ways, before she realized she was still tagging along. She slowed her pace a little. "Are you... uh... Getting along well here?" she asked. Elphie was never much for small talk, but she felt that she owed at least this to Rion for helping her.
Raising his head, he realised she'd spoken to him again. He wished he was slightly more of a conversationalist, but as it was, he wasn't - being incredibly introspective tended to have that effect on a person. "Well enough," he answered simply. He'd pretty much kept to himself since arriving, and he was yet to speak to many other people. But at least no-one here seemed to want to kill him.
She nodded, taking his answer as a positive one. She was glad he wasn't very talkative. Not like she could hear anyway.
They went inside and sat down. They ate in silence. Somehow, it was one of the better meals she's had in a long while.
