OPEN | here come the night
Who: Adam Milligan (
halfwinchester) and whoever else might be admiring Ewaymas!
Where: Around the mansion.
When: Dec. 13, anytime from late night to mid-afternoon.
Rating: G for now!
Summary: What the hell's with all this Christmas stuff? At least one newcomer is out and about looking at the changes.
The Story:
[Very rarely does Adam sleep through the night--or at all, if he's being honest. When the light fades and the mansion gets quiet, it's the perfect time for thoughts of his time in the pit to creep back in, and almost every night begins and ends with him sitting wide-awake until he's too tired to mount a defense. Sometimes he likes to ward away his nightmares in the bathroom. It's smaller in there, and reminds him of the times he'd hidden there when he'd been sick with the flu as a young child.
That night, he's counting spots on the ceiling of his room when the snow starts to fall, and it's the first thing that grabs Adam's attention before the noise starts. Snow? Had that been in Wonderland's weather report? By the time his curiosity wins out over his apprehension, the noises outside his door have long since stopped.
He creeps into the hallway in bare feet to see what going's on. Christmas decorations? Is it Christmas?
The mansion looks beautifully done up in the late hours of the night, and for a while Adam looks around until the pull to return to his room grows too strong. He can be found downstairs inspecting the giant Christmas tree once daylight breaks, dressed for the weather in a heavy sweater. His breakfast is an apple, which he eats while poking at ornaments on the branches.
For once, he has something to do in the mansion that isn't simply "avoid angels." It's strange enough thinking it's already December. A lot of the time it feels like he just arrived, soul broken and all.]

The wriggling is off-putting. It's clear that he isn't into this as much as Bela is, but she perseveres for a little while longer, pulling Adam closer. If he resists her again, she'll pull back and stop it from carrying on.]

She's insistent but not forceful, and he goes still, mind blank. He's conditioned for pain, not this. Not for a woman pressing close to him and her soft, clean smell.
The fact that nothing about this is painful is the most disorienting part.]

Little does Bela know that she's being influenced by a plant. Otherwise, she wouldn't do this. Not with how he was. Adam probably didn't like much physical contact.
The mistletoe is satisfied and Bela disengages herself from him, stepping back and letting go.]
...Sorry.

[When Bela steps back from him, he's at a loss. He blinks a few times before very slowly bringing his lips together, which still has Bela's residual warmth on them.]
I think that's... Wonderland for you. [He clears his throat, not knowing where to look.] That was... not what I was expecting.
no subject
Yeah, I wasn't expecting that to happen either. I just felt a compulsion to kiss you, Adam. Like a switch going on in my brain until it told me to stop.
[That's the best way Bela could describe it.]
You okay?
no subject
At least she hadn't felt compelled to take a knife and jam it between his ribs or something.]
Yeah...
[He hasn't exactly been silver-tongued since his escape from the Cage. He's even worse at finding words when he's just been kissed by someone who, although definitely an attractive woman, is virtually a stranger who could really do better than one dazed and confused vessel like himself.]
I mean, yeah. It's just... different. [His gaze flicks to the mistletoe.] You got me pretty good.
no subject
I did, didn't I?
[But she doesn't feel proud of it. Bela forced it on him, compelled by the mistletoe to do exactly that.]
And I kept persisting, even when you weren't reciprocating. [She sighs, looking away for a moment.] I should go, in case I have an impulse to kiss you again. Sorry.
no subject
It's not you, not even a little bit. It wasn't like that. It's just... been a while.
[You know, in case she'd been worried he'd be scarred for life from something so inconsequential as a prankster plant. But he doesn't try to stop her from leaving as he rubs his chin with the pad of his thumb.]
no subject
[Admittedly, she was a little worried about it because of what had happened to him, but if Adam wasn't blaming her, then somehow Bela would have to accept that.]
I'll see you sometime, yeah? We can catch up again when all of this is over.
[Bela smiles faintly before turning on her heel and going in the other direction, leaving him alone.]
no subject
Yeah. Maybe I'll even call you and try to take your advice.
[This is a joke, or as much of one as he can make.]
Have fun on your run.
