guys can be cat ladies too [open]
Who: Agent Washington and YOU!
Where: Various hallways and one of the tea rooms.
When: January 12th
Rating: PG, I guess?
Summary: While things are still relatively quiet since Christmas, Wash spends time with his new kitten friend.
The Story:
[Things haven't been completely awful around Wonderland since Christmas, all things considered. In fact, Wash has found that it's been kind of quiet, at least compared to the norm. It's probably been the best couple of weeks he's had here, even, though there's been a contributing factor to it. And that contributing factor is the gift he found in his stocking on Christmas day. No, not the doll body that the Duchess left in there for him, that one was pretty unsettling. No, no, the gift he was given is far less creepy, and in fact is following him around the hallways.
On tiny little feet, a ginger kitten trots behind the soldier, who occasionally glances back over his shoulder to make sure she's still there. And she is. She's surprisingly obedient for a cat, but Wash isn't complaining. The little ball of fur is probably the best gift Wonderland could have given him; she reminds him of his cats back home. The ones he had to leave behind when he enlisted in the military. It's been nice to have the company again.
Now, the sight is a little more out of the ordinary than simply a full grown man being followed by a kitten. Hell, that image is kind of cute. But this one? Well, this is a full grown man in high tech power armour being followed around by a kitten. Just because he has the company of a cat again doesn't mean Wash is going to let Wonderland catch him off guard. This time he did leave his helmet back in his room, so that's a step in the right direction, but... he's also got a feathery wand-like cat toy grasped in his hand. Which, really, only manages to make the sight stranger yet.
Finding an open door down one hallway, Wash peeks his head in and finds that it's an empty tea room. It's not exactly what he was looking for, but he decides it works and steps inside, the kitten still following.]
Come on, Apricot. [It's not really necessary, since she's practically on his heels as it is, but he has a habit of talking to cats, okay? Then traipsing over to a chair, Wash sits himself down and then proceeds to brandish the cat toy in front of the kitten, who immediately begins batting at it and chasing it.
And this is where Wash will be for a large portion of the afternoon, alternating between waving a feather wand in front of a cat and letting said cat take a nap. Hell, he might even take a nap himself at one point. Might as well enjoy the quiet time while it's here, right?]

[ It was a weird day at the office. ]
I ran into a couple of hunters, and once I was in I got hooked! [ Well, except for that broken arm... ] Okay, not instantly, but that's because my arm got pretty borked. Took me some time, but once I was in I was in. I think we've got ourselves a handful of hunters around, yeah. The two who I ran into are here!

[He needs a second to just stare, horrified at that idea. Finding out your boss is a monster that eats people. ...Hell, finding out your boss is a monster at all, that just sounds...mentally scarring.
He has to wonder how many people who come into contact with any of these creatures end up in psychiatric hospitals for the rest of their lives.]
Huh. Really? I mean... [Sounding a little disbelieving, Wash takes a second to hum and haw on exactly how to proceed. He's got a lot of questions, so many, but there's one that's more prominent than the others, but it's also got him worried he might end up...offending Charlie.] No offence or anything, but didn't the experience scare you? Obviously I don't know any of the details, but it sounds to me like a situation I wouldn't want to repeat. What managed to draw you into it? Wanting to be a hunter and deal with monsters all the time?

Oh, yeah. I'll tell you a secret that's totally not a secret once you see me in action - I'm a total chickenwuss. [ She looks slightly sheepish about this, since she's taken on the job of a Big Bad Hunter, but half the time she feels like she's just going to pee herself. ] Guess I look at it like I'm overcoming my fears, or something like that. Sounds good on paper, right?
I guess helping people out is something I've always wanted to do. [ Like a heroine in a fantasy tale, except way more real. ] It's actually helped me get over a lot of my own insecurities and stuff. I've got a long way to go before I'm kicking in doors and busting out the guns, but saving someone's life makes it worth it.

If it makes you feel better, I can be a pretty big chickenwuss at times, too. [Not really the term he'd normally use for it--he likes to opt for words that make him sound a little more dignified, but...well, he's trying to reassure her, here. He can call himself a chickenwuss.] Fighting and everything can be scary, especially when you're just starting out, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. You get better about it as time goes on.
[Not exactly the most inspirational advice ever, but hey, it's generally the truth. And he kind of likes how honest she is about it all.]
And I think those are great reasons for getting into it. It's really noble of you, you know, facing your fears for the sake of other people.
[He's totally nodding in approval right now.]
