The seaweed can show itself out, too; learning to maneuver through that had been a little more difficult than it's had any right to be... Not that he'd let it get the best of him, of course. Master of the sea-weave, right here.]
...Blake. [He frowns.] Christ. Think I'm sittin' that one out.
[NO THANK YOU.
At the nod, Daryl's fin swishes behind him automatically, like it knows it's being scrutinized, and he turns to peer out over the waves.]
And I fell in. [And then, because he's aware it ain't enough of an answer:] Ain't bad down there. Hell of a lot better'n what's goin' on up there from what I'm hearin'. Got a camp set up, same's in the woods.
[A camp, and about a dozen sunken ships and curious Atlantean-style ruins to explore. Creatures to track, new, exciting, unlike anything he could hunt back on land.
Freedom. Space. Solitude, when he wants it.]
Got no idea if what's down there's gonna stick around after this clears up but it can't hurt checkin' it out.

[ Blake points it out with a gesture and then scrunches her nose. It's not as if she doesn't like the water, but being from the city, Blake tends to prefer something a little more... chlorinated.
Arms wrapping around her knees, she remains crouched here on the dock for the time being, but she's got no intention of keeping Daryl for too much longer, not when he's obviously got things to do.] ]
We all oughta be glad we've got you, Daryl. For exactly this reason. [ A sentiment often felt, rarely expressed, and there's certainly Blake's fair share of fondness backing it, despite their very quiet relationship. ]
Can I see your tail? [ Of course she's going to ask. ]

Blake has the right idea, is what we're really saying.Glad to have him... Daryl only blinks at that, twice- because he isn't sure how to respond, not when in his mind he's just doing what he's gotta do, same as always- but at the question he looks... Mildly affronted.]
Cuttin' right to it, huh? [Under the water, the tail flicks almost like a cat's.
Daryl sighs. He'd probably ask, too.]
...Best back up, you ain't gonna like gettin' wet--
[And hopefully Blake obliges, because when Daryl tips onto his back and lets the fin float to the surface, a half-inch wave rolls over the edge of the dock. Probably enough to constitute "wetness" by event standards.]
Looks like somethin' outta some damn kids' book.
[Or, well... A kids' book about a mer-war: the fin looks like your standard mermaid tail, slightly muscular, scaled and with a slight shine if it catches the sun the right way; the scales themselves are a deep greenish-brown, but there are darker spots, too, almost black in some places down near the semi-ragged tail flukes... And the whole length of it is criss-crossed with scars not unlike the ones that mar Daryl's back... Though he's taking care to keep those out of sight.
Given the state of the tail, it's likely he could pass them off as just part of the war-torn look Wonderland seems to be going for... But he doesn't want to take that risk. There's a reason he hadn't just hopped up onto the dock.
After about a minute, he readjusts himself back to the way he was, submerged up to the shoulder.]
/updates rp bucket list
Balanced up on her toes, she presses back to that more immediate position dockside and grins maybe a little too excitedly. I mean, come on.
(Maybe an appropriate side note here is that Daryl is certain to never live this down, even if Blake's probably not cruel enough to ever bring it up again.)
But for the time being... ]
Y'know, when you spend a lotta time with kids, you see an' hear a lotta the same stuff over and over.
[ Which will lead right into a impishly crooned musical number from, you guessed it, The Little Mermaid. ]
♫I'll tell you a tale of the bottomless blue,
And it's hey to the starboard, heave-ho.
Look out, lad, a mermaid be waitin' for you,
In mysterious fathoms below...♫
[ Are you so glad to have Blake as a friend, Daryl? 8D ]

And then has to fight the urge to give the surface of the water a slap as he serenaded with a song that- yes- he recognizes. He's watched his share of kids, even if it isn't something he publicizes.
...He does make a face, though, paddling closer to the dock threateningly.]
So what you're tryin' to say's that you changed your mind...?
[Hope you're ready to get your Flounder on, Blake.....]

Mer-people! [ She gestures in an offhand manner. ] Pay no attention to this nautical nonsense, they say!
[ And then, as she continues to grapple with her own need to taunt, and an entirely present sense of mind to avoid turning fishy, Blake goes in for one last jab. ]
♫Fathoms below, below,
From whence wayward westerlies blow,
Where Triton is king, and his merpeople sing,
In mysterious fathoms below...♫
[ Yep, if she's on her way out, it's going to be in style ]

...And the likelihood of his patience wearing out, massive wave and all, is increasing by the verse.
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, splash the girl...]
You're pushin' it-- [There's a slight smirk on his face, though; despite his protests he really isn't all that bothered. Blake's missin' out on this one, but he ain't.] Bettin' they'd like that over by that playground.
[There's a pause, and Daryl's about to leave it at that, but before he disappears again:]
Hey. I find anything worth findin' I'll let you know.
no subject
Nevertheless, she sees his last statement for what it is — another sign they're fortunate for Daryl's presence — and offers him a salute as he heads back below. ]
You're the best, man. Enjoy the water.
[ And with that, she'll leave him be, but not without feeling considerably... lighter. Christ, she needed that amusement, especially after everything that's happened lately. ]

Moving on up there, buddy.
And so Daryl flicks a tiny bit of water in Blake's direction- not enough to get him wet, just enough to really drive home just how nice he's being right now- before letting himself sink back beneath the waves.]
