Sounds good to me.

::Now he raises an eyebrow at Blake.::

Are you gonna want to get all food supplies from the house, or are you up to some of the food being acquired by hunting?

Hunting? [ She shrugs, not particularly bothered. ] Long as you guys catch it and clean it, I'll cook it.

[ All things considered, she's done enough killing in her time (which is considerably less than everyone else, but hey, it's all relative. ]

Should we wait 'til it gets warmer?

::Ed wasn't sure how Blake would react. City types get funny sometimes when they see what the meat looks like before a butcher happens to it.::

I can handle that. Gonna be sticking to rabbits, since not only are deer overkill, there's, uh, James.

::Which makes hunting deer very 'NOPE' for Ed.::

Anyway, yeah, we should probably wait until it's warmer, just to make sure the place doesn't decide to throw a cold snap at us to be funny.

Which sound exactly like this place, doesn't it? [ She stirs the soup on the heat. ] Rabbit's... prob'ly fine. Maybe avoid any hares, though. 'Specially the March variety.

[ Blake scrunches up her nose and takes a seat. ]

What's rabbit like? Have you had it?

[ Because if Blake has to cook it eventually, maybe it's good to know. ]

[personal profile] seekinghome 2014-03-28 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
::Ed nods.::

Yeah, I've had it. Caught my first rabbit when I was ten. Al and I ended up fighting over who would kill it because neither of us wanted to do it. That time, a fox stole it for it's offspring. We followed it but watching it being eaten, kinda, uh, killed our appetites.

::Ed blinks as he realizes he's tangenting somewhat.::

It's good. It can be greasy though, so that's something you're probably gonna want to keep in mind. One thing to be said about the cook it on a stick over a campfire method is that it makes it easy for the excess fat to go somewhere else.

[ To be fair, Blake's always been the type to enjoy a little extra, so the digression doesn't bother her. She grabs out some bowls and some spoons and makes one last check of the soup to ensure it's hot enough. ]

Think just 'bout anything on a stick cooked over a campfire's gotta be good. Just too bad 'bout s'mores not growin' on trees. That'd make me a bit happier 'bout foraging.

Maybe if you ask Wonderland nicely, it'll produce trees that provide junk food in a suitable camping area.

::Ed's tone is slightly dry although it normalizes soon enough.::

Nothing keeping us from taking the makings with us. I wasn't exactly planning on doing much foraging anyway. Just the bit of hunting.

::He scratches at the back of his neck.::

Probably should have done some earlier to keep my skills up, but with the way the place works...

[ Blake scoffs while she pours them both some of the tomato soup. ]

Yeah, can pretty much rely on things goin' crazy no matter what kinda plans you have for keepin' up. Been hatin' myself all this week while tryin' to just get through my regular trainin' exercises.

[ She places the bowl and a spoon in front of Ed and then takes a seat with her own soup. There may or may not be a grilled cheese charring on the stove, but Blake's too preoccupied to notice. ]

Yeah. And it makes it way too easy to be lazy. Although me sticking to the dining room is also in the interests of me not setting anything on fire by accident.

::Ed nods his thanks and starts working on the soup, also oblivious of the sandwich trying to become a chunk of charcoal.::

[ That much makes Blake laugh, almost to the point where she has to spit her soup back out. Thankfully, she manages to keep things under control and only just makes to reply when the idea of the kitchen burning down is accompanied by the smell of something burning.

Blake blinks and then glances back and then immediately presses up to stand.
]

Shit, shit, shit, shit!

[ Watch as she pulls that ruined food off the stove, expression the picture of disappointment. ]

Well, that's a waste...
seekinghome: (Ummm)

[personal profile] seekinghome 2014-04-01 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
::Ed catches that smell right after Blake does and watches her deal with the destroyed food.::

Think I jinxed it?
five_oh: (19)

[personal profile] five_oh 2014-04-01 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Hastily, she drops the sandwich into the trash bin and then... waits to make certain the trash isn't going to catch on fire. So far, so good. ]

Dunno if you jinxed it, Ed... [ She waves her hands, trying to dispel the smell of burning bread and butter and cheese. ] But we sure did do somethin'. Maybe just stick to the soup for now.

[ She won't be trying that again. Gosh, how embarrassing, especially for an accomplished cook like Blake. ]
seekinghome: (Eh?)

[personal profile] seekinghome 2014-04-01 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
::This is what happens when you get distracted by talking to people while you're cooking. Things catch fire.::

We forgot about the food that wasn't sitting right in front of us, is what we did. Could have done worse, I suppose.
five_oh: (25)

[personal profile] five_oh 2014-04-04 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ This only happens if you're not used to talking to people while you're cooking, though, so maybe that's the real difference. Either way, Blake doesn't seem too perturbed by the ruined food. ]

Yeah, definitely coulda been worse. Might've lit my hair on fire instead.

[ Blake puffs out a breath and in doing so, blows the hair from her face. ]

Remind me later I owe you a decent meal.
seekinghome: (Calm)

[personal profile] seekinghome 2014-04-04 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, setting yourself on fire would be worse. Or getting set on fire by someone else.

::Ed eats another bite or two of soup.::

I will. And I'll try to manage it before I actually get hungry.
five_oh: (19)

[personal profile] five_oh 2014-04-06 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
Gotta remember to eat. [ Said with no small amount of fondness. ]

You like breakfast? We could have waffles when we camp. Campfire waffles. [ She points with her spoon and then pushes the hair from her eyes with the back of her hand. ] That's a thing. Campfire waffle iron. Saw it it on the internet.
seekinghome: (Soft Smile)

[personal profile] seekinghome 2014-04-06 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Also need to remember to bug you for food before I'm hungry enough to whine about being hungry and bother you while in the middle of cooking.

::Ed tilts his head a little as he thinks about it.::

Sounds good. Be better than foraging for breakfast.
five_oh: (22)

[personal profile] five_oh 2014-04-07 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Great. Sounds like a good plan. [ She smiles, clearly pleased. ] Don't be surprised when I hold you to it.
