I'm sure it is. How long's it been since you changed?

[ He can't stop giving him the occasional once-over, because, well, he can only begin to imagine what it must be like, being changed like that. ]

Oh, I don't know, I could give it a try, but do you really want me to do that?

[ Why not find someone he (she) actually knows, or find someone that also has long hair? ]

Three days. Trust me when I say I really want you to do that. Or cut it all off. Whatever we gotta do at this point.

[ This isn't really Blake, not this attitude or any of it, but since Wonderland's been expertly jerking her around for more months than she can count, well before she was ever a woman. She huffs as the wind blows again and shoves her hands into her hair. ]

Sorry, I'm just... grumpy. You're the Doctor, right?

[ Eway famous. Congrats, bro. ]

Three days. [ That's strange, because he really thought that most things around here run their course after a few days. ] If it's been that long and you haven't changed back, I suppose you're going to want to do something with that hair.

[ Meaning he'll do the best he can to braid her hair. ]

I'd be grumpy too, if that had happened to me. But that's right, I'm the Doctor.

[ He takes that to mean someone's been talking about him. Probably Martha, or Luke, maybe even Amy. ]

[ Certainly somewhere someone's always talking about the Doctor. In this case, Ten would be correct with his guess about Martha.

Blake is going to sit still, semi-patiently pushing that hair out of her face as the wind kicks up again. She's not about to remain quiet, though. ]

You travel space and time. You ever been to a place like this? [ And then, maybe even before he can answer: ] You ever been to Gotham City? [ Maybe that's not the more interesting question, but Blake can't help being curious about it. ]

You're taking this all rather calmly. [ It's not a bad thing, but he's used to humans kicking up a bit more fuss about the whole space and time travel thing. ] Never been to anywhere quite like this, no.

[ Well, he will, in his future, but he doesn't know that yet, for obvious reasons. ]

Sentient mansions with mirrors and mirror people on the other side? Can't say that I have.

[ He quirks an eyebrow in Blake's direction. ]

Never been there either. Never even heard of it.

[ Fortunately, space and time travelers are nothing compared to the pink cupcake-making alien Blake met her first week in Wonderland. She was a man back then. Ah, good times. ]

So, this is a bit weird on every level, is what you're sayin'?

[ Really, who could argue? Wonderland's got more than its fair share of spitefulness, no matter what people think. Weird barely covers it. ]

[ Well, good; it's a bit nice, not having to go through some song-and-dance thing like he usually does. ]

Just a bit, but I happen to also like weird, so it's not so bad.

[ Actually, it's more than having a penchant for the weird. The weird just seems to follow him around or be drawn to him, most likely the latter. ]

This place's not so bad, then? [ But before the Doctor can answer, Blake cuts back in. ] Spend a lot of time thinkin' 'bout how this place really isn't. It's given me a lot I never woulda had bad home. There's nothin' wrong with bein' glad for that, right?

No, nothing wrong with that at all. [ He can understand feeling that way, even if he's somewhere in the middle between preferring it here and wanting to return to the world he knows. ] It could always be worse, and there are a lot of places worse than this.

[ But he sighs, because it's definitely a wrench, being here without his TARDIS. ]

Now if they'd just thought to let me have my ship, that would be something.

Too easy, right? Wouldn't do to have the Doctor swoop in an' save us, even if that's the kinda thing I hear you do.

[ Blake smiles and there's no keeping the fondness out of that expression. ] You took care of Martha, didn't you? And that girl's tough, so it must've been a pretty big thing.

[ And then, as if to explain, a gentle wave of her hand and offers an aside. ] We had a spirit journey together. Learned a lot.

No, of course not. Just like it wouldn't do for that person with the portal gun to try springing us out of here.

[ He just shrugs about that last comment. It is something he tries to do, of course, to varying degrees of success. ] Well, yes, but it's one of those things that goes both ways. She looks after me, and I look after her.

[ It works out well for the most part, especially since Martha doesn't need much looking after. But he does it anyway. ]

Really, a spirit journey? What brought that about?

[ Martha neglected to mention that part, although to be fair, he never expected her to tell him everything she's done in Wonderland. ]

Think it was a TV thing? Like an event where people're stuck in TV shows or movies or somethin', I dunno. We did some trainin' then visited a— [ Blake hesitates, changes the answer before he ever says it. ] —a place in my home city. There was some of her there, too, though. Kinda... meshed together. Collective consciousness? That the phrase? Prob'ly doesn't mean what I think it means.

A TV thing... Right. [ No, he hasn't quite grasped Blake's full meaning yet, but he will. ] So the two of you saw glimpses of each other, is that what you mean?

[ Strange, but he thought Martha didn't have the capability for telepathy. At least, she'd never mentioned it. Whatever happened must have been something else entirely. ]

Kinda, yeah. We sorta saw parts of us in the landscape. Oh! And there were a coupla birds there. They talked. A nightingale and a robin.

[ Blake laughs and plucks at the hem of her sleeve. ] Guess it sounds kinda crazy, but they were pretty informative. Kinda like the inside track into the other's mind.

Parts of yourselves and talking birds. Right, that all makes a lot of sense.

[ Actually, it doesn't, but he doesn't fault Blake for any of it. He guesses that it's one of those things he'd have to have seen to understand. ]

So it sounds like what you experienced was some form of telepathy.

[ At least, it's the closest, most similar thing he can think of. ]

Yeah, I dunno. Not exactly a common kinda thing where I come from, so it's not like I'm gonna recognize it.

[ Blake rubs her eyes and then lets out a sigh. ]

Well, whatever. It's good finally meetin' you, Doctor. Thanks for the assist on the hair thing.

Really? Well, I suppose that makes sense. It's not as though there's a big sign that just switches on whenever someone's using their telepathy.

[ That would be highly inconvenient if it did, at least for him, even though he doesn't make a point of using his telepathy often. ]

No trouble at all. If I ever find myself with a similar problem, I'll know who to look for.

[ Well, ask for, at least, since he's never seen Blake when he's not a girl. ]
