Summary: Ritsuka visits the chapel with an offering in hand for the Virgin Mary statue, Eiri is hiding out there with absoultely no words of encouragement.
the Story:

Ritsuka was on his way to the chapel. This time he had an offering for the statue. The Virgin Mary. That was what Saix said she was called. Ritsuka had never heard of her before, but there was something about the statue that seemed to give him hope. Maybe it was because of her stance, hands open, as if she wanted to present Ritsuka with whatever he wished for. He wasn't sure if she granted wishes or just listened to them. This time he was going to ask her. He didn't want to believe what Robin had said to him last night about spirit's wearing the skins of the person who wanted to bring them back. He..She had to be lying.

Ritsuka held the offering he was going to make to the statue in his hands carefully, as if he were holding something fragile. Watching his steps carefully, Ritsuka entered the chapel, opening the large wooden door and slipping inside. He didn't want to be followed.

At the front of the chapel, Eiri was laying down in a pew. He couldn't be seen, a faint trail of smoke that snaked through the air was the only indication that someone else was in the room. He had found somewhere where he could be alone. A place to think. It was definitely a welcomed change, the entire day he had been left alone. Either people in the mansion didn't pray or they didn't know this place existed. Hearing the door open, Eiri didn't bother to get up from his spot. As long as he wasn't noticed, he didn't care who had made their way in.

Facing the statue, Ritsuka unfolded the cloth that he kept his offering in. It was the picture of him and Seimei. He placed the picture gently at the Virgin Mary's feet before he lit a candle, one that stood right in front of her. Ritsuka looked up at the statue with gleaming violet eyes and in turn the statue looked down at Ritsuka. She wasn't quite smiling, but the expression on her face was comforting. He took a step forward, stand as close as possible to the statue without getting burned by the flame of the candle. "His name is Seimei. He's my big brother..." Ritsuka's voice silently echoed against the walls of the chapel as he spoke in a shy voice.

He felt his face getting warm from the candle he was standing over. "Do you make wishes come true?" his head tilted slightly to the side, ears twitching slightly. Someone else was in the room, but Ritsuka hadn't realized it yet- though his ears had for him.

Shuffling from his spot on the pew, Eiri stood up. He heard some conversing, there must be two people in the room. When Eiri noted that there was only one person the room, a small boy nonetheless, he raised an eyebrow. The kid was talking to a statue and if he had leaned in any further his hair or his clothes were going to catch fire. "You're going to burn yourself, kid." Eiri said, taking the cigarette from his mouth and holding it between his index and middle fingers.

Startled, Ritsuka toppled over himself and the candles, a few shattered away from their glass surroundings. Fortunately for Ritsuka he had gotten away with only a small scratch across his left cheek. Tiny droplets of blood trickled down the side of his face as he pushed himself off of the floor. He looked around frantically for the photograph, relieved to see it was still at the statues feet. His attention was then turned from the Virgin to Eiri. "Who are you?! Get out of here!"

Not only was this kid a brat, he must have been the one Elphaba had been describing because when Eiri approached the child, a pair of cat ears adorned his head. This kid also had a tail. "Halloween is over." Eiri didn't answer the question nor did he obey Ritsuka's demand to leave. He wasn't going to have a child push him around and now that Ritsuka had woken Eiri up from his half sleep, he wasn't in the best of moods either.

Ritsuka shot Eiri a glare, he balled his hands into tiny fists as he usually did when he was angry or upset. What Ritsuka was doing was none of this man's business. Eiri looked down at the lit candles on the floor, making it a point for Ritsuka to see that he could be the cause of a potential fire. "I know it's not Halloween!" Ritsuka's eyes trailed down to his feet where candles and glass were scattered around them. He took two large steps back away from the candles, eyes darting back and forth as he watched hot wax drip down to the floor. Ritsuka felt his temper rise and a lump settle in his throat. He stamped out the candles with his foot, the room darkening slightly after all the candles were put out. All except the one he had lit for Seimei.

Instead of stamping out the flame of the candle, Ritsuka carefully pushed away the shards of glass and picked up the candle. He placed it beside the statue, taking care not to get any wax on himself.

Well this one was certainly odd. "You're praying to the wrong person. In fact, praying isn't going to help at all." Eiri put out the cigarette that had burned itself through while he was watching the boy. He took out another one, this time instead of using his lighter, he used the candle Ritsuka had placed beside the statue.

Ritsuka's eyes widened. He grabbed the candle away from Eiri's outstrecthed arm, how could he try and light his cigarette with Seimei's candle? He used the cloth he had wrapped the picture in to tie around the bottom of the candle so that he could hold it without getting wax on his hands. "You're lying and you shouldn't touch other people's things."

Eiri peered at the statue with a contemptous look in his eyes. He never understood why people worshipped statues and lit incense and candles. They were only contributing more to their false security. "No one is listening, you're talking to a plaster mold." His eyes set upon a picture that Ritsuka must have placed there for he was one of the two people in the photograph.

"Just because you don't believe doesn't mean everyone else can't," Ritsuka eyed the man suspiciously. "Why are you here? and who are you? You shouldn't be smoking in a temple!" He took the photograph of he and his brother from the foot of the statue so that Eiri wouldn't try and grab it. Maybe this man had come here to take his offering away from the statue.

Eiri placed his hands in his pockets, walking passed Ritsuka as he said, "How sentimental. It's pathetic what people will do these days." As he passed he made sure to take a long drag of his cigarette and blow the smoke near the Ritsuka and the statue. He made his way to the double wooden doors. He was surprised the brat didn't try to make a dash at him. Perhaps he knew better or perhaps he didn't want Eiri to notice he was sobbing. "It's even worse when they start crying," he put in his last word before exiting the chapel.

Ritsuka rubbed his eyes with the back of his sleeve. He didn't mean to cry, but he couldn't help it. The tears that streaked down his face burned the cut that was on his cheek. Holding onto the candle and the picture tightly, Ritsuka looked up at the statue, vision clouded by the tears in his eyes. "Seimei, give me Seimei back.." his voice started out as a low whisper. Nails dug into the soft wax of the candle, Ritsuka looked down at it, the flame was starting to dwindle and become faint. Letting out a small gasp, Ritsuka looked back up at the statue, "No, that's not what I meant..don't go out," Ritsuka looked around for another light. There were none now that he had stamped them out. When he looked back down at the candle, the smoke from the wick was all that was left of the now expired flame. "Seimei!" his voice rang out and echoed loudly in the chapel, bouncing off the walls madly.

The candle slipped from Ritsuka's hands and dropped with a small thud on the floor and breaking in two and with it, Ritsuka's spirit of hoping Seimei would come back to him. "S-seimei.." dropping to the floor, Ritsuka grabbed the broken pieces of candle, wrapping them and the picture in the cloth before scooting himself over to the nearest pew. Feeling defeated, he slide underneath the pew, curling up into a small ball, closing his eyes tightly as he held the cloth to his chest.
