hyperkinesia: (If I couldn't handle pointy things.)

((OPEN)) Have you hugged your physicist today?

Who: Bruce Banner and YOU
Where: Library, kitchen, dining room, gardens, basement lab, etc. ANYWHERE.
When: From the 16th to the 19th, state your date!
Rating: I don't expect anything past PG
Summary: Bruce is seeking the comfort of simple physical contact. Arms brushing, hands holding, hugging, anything. It doesn't even matter if he knows you or if he's never seen you before. He craves for it so much he might not even notice he's doing it at first.
Note: I'm alright with both brackets and prose, pick your poison.
The Story:

[ It starts with nothing but a feeling, something itching at the far back of his mind, something that's entirely different from the kind of clawing and scratching he's normally used to. But he brushes it aside, he doesn't think much of it - not until he starts crossing paths with random people on the hallways and the gardens and finds himself reaching to touch strangers he's never even seen before.

Most times, he manages to draw back and rush away before actually doing anything. Other times he finds himself detouring just so he can brush his fingers against someone else's, or feel his arm bump lightly against theirs. But somehow it's only when he's alone that he starts to fully realize that something's happening. The mind is quick to make the association, though knowing that this might very well be one of these events doesn't really help him in stopping this craving for touch from happening.

So instead he starts seeking solitude. He hides in corners of the library, and he uses the kitchen and the dining room when there's no one else around. The rest of the time, he retreats to the lab and stays there, surrounded by what's as close to familiarity as he can get, and at least there if someone approaches him, it's people he's more comfortable with. Relatively speaking. ]

[Oh yeah, Tony doesn't even want to start on that whole dormouse thing, because while he's logically realized he's in a place called Wonderland, and that would probably mean running into some infamous characters, reconciling the notion that it should be impossible with that fact is hard. He's still trying to get over Captain Kirk, as it stands, so it's all getting to be a little much.

But at Bruce's admission, he pauses with his hands still wrapped in the suit's wiring, straightening from his crouch. He's seen how Bruce shrinks into himself, keeps himself mostly away from other people, and while Tony has never been bothered about invading someone else's personal space for any little thing, he's also aware that that quirk is unique unto himself, and he can't recall a single time anyone else has ever gotten close enough to Bruce to be remotely invasive.]

So you're craving touch. That's really funny, in a sick kind of way. [He releases the wiring, letting it fall back to drag on the floor.] Funny, I've never seen you as the touchy-feely type. [His tone is light enough, though. Because that's just what Tony does. If things get awkward, or hard, or uncomfortable, he makes a bad joke. And now the urge is stronger than ever, with this even making him seek out attention from the people he considers important to him.] Is it just...Anybody, or specific people, or...?

[Tony just doesn't think about it, honestly. Or tries not to. The only one he's remotely found amazing in any way (as opposed to entirely disconcerting) was Kirk, after all, and he'd been sure to brag to Pepper about the fact that James T. Kirk knows Iron Man. But only to her, because it's still weird.]

Yeah, well, I think we're all feeling it, in some way. You're all touchy, Pepper's...

[He trails off, gesturing at the organized lab. Overly organized, in his opinion.]

Me and Clint with that stupid stunt. And the really sick thing is, I think we're getting off easy, this time. I mean, I've heard some stories, and this seems like one of the nicer events.

[And that really is a kick in the teeth. But an eye-opening one. After all, that guy calling himself an angel had fessed up to it, and even explained it. Whether or not Tony believes that's what it really is happens to be moot.

But it's okay. It's just Bruce. Where other people might be nervous being in close proximity, it's just not that big of a deal. Which is why, when he notices that look, he kind of feels sorry for him. Not in a pity sort of way, but...That this place is dragging out the deepest held desires they may not all be aware of. So he moves over, putting a hand on his shoulder. After all, Tony's not the type to be weird about touching people. It's just a thing.

But don't say anything, Bruce, that'll make it weird.]

I'm wondering how this place is prying into people's heads. That's what got me really weirded out. There's stuff I think all of us have seen we'd rather not show up here.

[That implication is a scary one. Not enough that he'd freak out about it, of course, because he's not. For all the bad things that get said about the Hulk, Tony's aware of exactly who caught him after his no-return trip. He glances to the unformed suit on the stand, and decides right then not to say anything. At least, not yet. There's no reason for Bruce to have that added on to everything, and it's just a 'what if' measure.

It's distracting enough he doesn't even notice Bruce has put his hand over his own, and by then...Well. Better to feed this craving than anything else the mansion could drag out. He knows, his own nerves have been tweaked pretty badly, as well.]

And there's a lot of us here. I don't mean just...You know, us, but in general. There's more people here than I originally thought. Did you see the little nerdy guy, claiming to be an angel claiming this one? Said it was one of the Horsemen or whatever?

[That's what he means. This is relatively light, in the scheme of things. But he's heard there are demons around, too, and he can't say he's entirely keen on finding out what's in their heads.]

Well, from what I've been able to follow, not so much. This is just how it works. This place digs in, finds something to screw with, and then inflicts it on everybody. We're just lucky we get some of that ol' timey religion for our first little party.

[Whether or not he actually believes it - truly believes it - is another story. Of course, a year ago he'd have said the same about Norse mythology, too, and look where that's led them.

But all in all...Things could be worse. They could be so much worse, and he's not entirely sure if they should be grateful or worried that they're getting off so easily for a first run.]

Either way, I get the feeling this is just the tip of what this place could have dug out of his head. An angel? I mean, come on, we could be looking at something straight out of the Old Testament. Not too keen on the idea of rivers of blood or bugs everywhere.

Yeah, I've been thinking about that. [Because he has. That's one of the things that's stood out to him the most, even after all the information he's gathered. Because it falls in line with his theory, doesn't it? About the pocket universes.

He shifts on his feet, keeping his hand where it is on Bruce's shoulder and articulating with the other.]

So, pocket universes, right. This is what they do. All universes, really. So you've got your universe; doesn't matter what size it is, just. Wonderland is a universe. Well, universes have their brane, right. That'd be the borders keeping us in. There's nothing beyond those, or so we're led to believe.

But without any kind of energy transfer, nothing happens. It stays dormant. So what I've been thinking is that if this is a pocket universe, the brane of this one is keeping us from getting to the universe outside of it. For all we know, we're actually still where we should be. But the borders of this one is keeping us penned. And if that's the case, we're the bulk of this. We're the energy source. And if we're the energy source, these events are the vent that keeps things running. It's eating our memories like candy to keep itself alive.

Well, I mean, think about it. Think about everything we know about these events so far, and everything we know about the death count. Five's the limit. I wonder why that is...Is it because it's taxing on this place to, you know, piece us back together? Or what? There's a lot of unknowns here and I can't say that I like that.

[The how, of course, being the major part of that unknown.]

Maybe a better idea will be to get more info from the people that have been here longest. Take a survey, see if through...I don't know, their little stories there's a pattern.
