She's a little artsy, she's hip and cool
Who: Tauriel (class 3-3, age: 18) and YOU
Where: Anywhere really, a couple of suggestions lie below the cut but feel free to come up with something of your own.
When: At any time during the event, really
Rating: Let's say PG 13
Summary: Tauriel is just going about her business, trying to be a good student.
The Story:
Short AU summary if you want to handwave/assume some CR just let me know!
A. Tauriel always felt as if she worked better up on the roof than anywhere else in the school. She often came up there to do her homework, which on this particular day happened to be working on her project for the upcoming art exhibition.
Well, working might be too strong a term. She was looking through a bunch of old photos, and there just might have been tears in her eyes.
B. Working out was a good way of getting rid of frustrations, and Tauriel was a bit more easily frustrated than she would like to admit. She'd done it again, argued with a teacher until she had actually been asked to leave the classroom. History was one of those touchy subjects where she tended to get in trouble.
So stupid, but they had been wrong and she couldn't just sit there and listen to that without saying something. She just couldn't.
So there she was, beating the crap out of a sandbag because it seemed like a better idea than beating herself up.
C. Tauriel was more about physical activity than hitting the books, really, but it was easy to ignore that when she had her goal in sight.
Top grades.
She had a favourite corner where she liked to curl up when going up on the roof was for some reason or other not an option, and there she was on this occasion as well, chewing absentmindedly on the end of a pen while she tried to wrap her head around an equation.

A!
When he's bored, or even when he's not, he often goes look for her in those very places. And that's how he comes to walk out onto the roof, smiling as he spots her a few feet away, sitting with her back to him, so he can't really see she's been crying. ]
Tauriel! [ His voice cheerful, he practically skips over to where she is, bag lazily slung over his shoulder as he twirls a pretty white feather between the thumb and index finger of his free hand. ] I think you dropped this when you were walking.
[ Smooth. ]
no subject
[ She awkwardly puts the photos back in the envelope she keeps them in and wipes at her eyes before smiling at Kili, genuinely glad to see him even if his timing could have been a bit better. ]
I'm... pretty sure I didn't drop that.
[ Is he going somewhere with this or was it just a dorky excuse to talk to her? ]
no subject
[ He's smiling widely as he walks around her and lowers himself so he can sit near her. Then he continues, in a softer tone, going on to explain his own
lamepickup line to her as if she wouldn't get it from just that. ]Because you're...
[ Because you're an angel, is what he was going to say, but his words, much like his smile, die down when he notices her still wet and slightly reddened eyes. ]
Are you okay? What happened?
no subject
[ The word is out of her mouth before she even really makes a decision to say it, so deeply ingrained is the habit to put up a brave face.
She knows she doesn't really have to with Kili, so she offers him the envelope. ]
I was just... looking at some old pictures.
[ If he looks inside he will find pictures of a happy couple, a man with a mop of hair as red as Tauriel's and a blonde woman with the same sweet smile that can sometimes be seen on her daughter's face.
A baby shows up in the pictures after a while, born with a full head of red hair. It's not hard to figure out that these are pictures of the parents that Tauriel never really got a chance to know. ]
no subject
He'd thought someone had hurt her in any way, but it turns out she'd been crying for an entirely different reason.
The similarities between Tauriel and the people on the photos is undeniable, and at first he can't help a wide smile as he goes through them, even laughing a little when the baby shows up later on. ]
It's you!
no subject
Yes, it is. I got most of them from Thran, he was good friends with my parents. He introduced them to each other, actually.
no subject
[ He smiles up at her briefly, then glancing back down at the photos, he picks one out where the baby's the main subject, then holds it up next to her. ]
Really looks like you, so it was easy to tell.
no subject
I don't know if that is such a good thing.
[ Looking like a little baby isn't really all that desirable when you are eighteen and starting to try on this whole "being an adult" thing on for size a little. ]
no subject
[ He takes a few seconds to realize why what he just said might not be that great of a compliment, but then he shakes his head as he continues quickly. ]
Oh, no! No, you don't-- well you don't look like a baby. [ Looking down. Then back up real quickly there. ] At all.
I just mean with the... [ He gestures at the top of his own head. ] The hair color and your eyes and all that. And you're cute now too, of course! Just not baby-cute.
no subject
I suppose as long as it's not baby-cute I can stand it.
no subject
No, not at all. It's more like girl-cute. You know, hot-cute.
[ That's totally a compliment, right. ]
no subject
Tauriel is willing to cut him some slack here because she really does like him a lot and she knows he pretty much always means well even when he's being clumsy. ]
Hot, huh?
[ Still going to tease him a bit though. ]
no subject
Well, yes. Very. [ He nods, his tone slightly teasing but most of all, honest. ] And very pretty too.
no subject
[ She turns her attention to the photos again, obviously pleased that he thinks she's pretty even if she's trying to hide it a little. ]
So what will you be doing for the culture festival?
no subject
Oh, my class has to set up this speed dating thing. Yours is doing an art exhibit, right?
no subject
[ It seems a little random and odd to her, and she's definitely glad she doesn't have to do it. ]
Yeah, we'll be doing an art exhibition. That's why I'm fiddling around with all these photos.
no subject
[ And it's not like he's that interested in the actual speed dating, to be honest. Unless she decides to drop by, but then he'll just be hopping from table to table in a thinly veiled attempt to stop other guys from hitting on her. ]
So what are you doing with them?
no subject
[ She imagines he'd be pretty appreciated. He is very cute after all, and genuinely nice which sometimes feels like it's a much rarer trait in people than it should be. ]
I'm not... entirely sure what I'm doing with them yet. It's supposed to be centered around memory... and I want to work stars into it too somehow.
no subject
[ A moment's pause, then he adds with a casual shrug. ] But it's not like I'll be actually dating any of those people, so.
[ It's important she knows that, obviously. ]
Stars? Why that?
no subject
[ For her own part she's sort of been assuming that she's going alone. ]
And, well...
[ She shifts around a little so that she is angled more towards him, to make it easier to look at him as she speaks. ]
You know how light needs time to travel from one place to another? So when we look at the stars, we're not exactly looking at them. We're sort of looking at a memory of them. Starlight is memory. It's an imprint of a moment that is gone, like a footprint in sand.
[ She lowers her eyes, letting out an amused huff. ]
Sorry, that got kind of pretentious...
no subject
[ To be fair it sounded more scientific to him than pretentious, at least the first part. And Kili's not brilliant on that, but he thinks he gets it. Fundamentally, at least - stars are memory. Simple enough. ]
You could set up a kind of projection, with like... stars and stuff. And then with the pictures showing up. Maybe if you assemble a little dark corner in the exhibit, that could look pretty cool.
[ He shrugs tentatively, before he smiles again at her. ]
And I don't wanna find a date for the dance. I already have someone I want to go with.
no subject
[ Tauriel lights up like a whole constellation at the thought, mind already racing to figure out how she might do it. ]
Oh, thank you so much!
[ Then she reins herself in a little, her expression turning into one of friendly curiosity instead. ]
So who do you want to go to the dance with?
[ Doesn't bother her at all that he might be thinking about asking someone who isn't her, of course. Because she doesn't think about him that way.
Nope. ]
no subject
Not just that, but the bright smile on her face is possibly the best reward there could be, and frankly all that he needs to gather up the courage for what comes next. ]
Actually, that's... that's why I'm here. [ He starts hesitantly, gesturing at her as he straightens his back even while sitting. ]
You. I want to go with you. So this is... me. Asking.
[ He clears his throat, then shapes his lips into a small smile before asking properly. ]
Will you be my date to the dance?
no subject
And still, she finds herself feeling surprised and... unexpectedly pleased. She's actually really glad that he's asking her, and she hasn't really thought much about the dance at all up until this point. She's been intending to go of course, but the whole having a date issue hasn't really been on her mind much. ]
Yes?
[ Her answer sounds like a question, because she is sort of surprised to hear herself say it. ]
no subject
Yes?
[ He's at a loss of what she means, whether she's saying yes, or if she's trying to ask him something, but since she doesn't elaborate he asks hopefully, smile growing on his face. ]
Is that the answer? You'll go with me?
[ Please say yes or he will look like the most miserable kicked puppy when he walks back into the building. ]
no subject
[ Damn it, it sounded like a question again, get it together Tauriel. ]
I mean yes. Yes, I'll go with you.
no subject
[ His fists punch the air before he can stop himself, then he settles down with a more contained smile. But only by a little. ] That's good. Great! So great.
no subject
I'm glad you think so.
c
so when he spots tauriel -- though her name isn't that familiar to him, but her face? how could he not have noticed her before -- dean's without a doubt supposed to be sitting in class, most likely learning something about history of this and that place that he couldn't give a rat's ass about.
no, it's the older student who has all of dean's attention whether she knows it or not, and has him sauntering over with a grin. ]
Pretty sure you could be readin' somethin' a whole lot more interesting than that
no subject
That's true. Sadly, doing that wouldn't keep my grades up.
[ And while Tauriel has a reckless streak that is a mile wide, it doesn't extend to slacking off when it comes to schoolwork. ]
no subject
You all talk like one day's gonna ruin any chance at a nice grade. Ain't it too stressful?
[ live a little is what he wants to say, but there's no way he's gonna chase this chick off with dissing her work mojo. it could be admirable, if she wasn't wasting it on... whatever it is she's readying. heck, looks like alien language to him. ]
no subject
[ That's a bit of a lie, actually, because well... it is stressful. She is constantly pushing herself to be the best that she can be, and she takes failure quite personally.
Still, a bit of conversation doesn't really hurt, so she puts her pen down and leans back a little in her seat, indicating that Dean now has her attention rather than her homework. ]
no subject
In that case, you could save it for later. Could go do something fun.
[ you know, with him. c: ]
no subject
Like what?
[ Okay then, Mr. Cocky, give it your best shot. ]
no subject
[ he could be a little less obvious.
or not. ]
OMG DEAN
Really? ]
Wow, you know I think you might be a bit too subtle for me because that just flew right over my head.
[ She could be a little less sarcastic.
Or not. ]
8D
he doesn't seem too phased by the sarcasm, and ends up shrugging. ]
The way I see it, skippin' all the unnecessary chit-chat is the way to go-- I mean, you'd see right through that, too.
[ makes sense, right. ]
they really need to meet as their actual selves xD
[ She probably would, even if she's not exactly super experienced when it comes to flirting.
She has to admit that it has a certain charm to it, really, the straightforward honesty. ]
So, how does it usually work for you?
