Meeting [COMPLETE]
Who: Cree (
banana_f1sh) and Louis (
libera_m_e)
Where Fourth floor hallway then prolly the kitchen?
When: 25 December, Christmas
Rating: PG
Summary: Cree decides to go to the kitchen to get something to eat and meets Louis on the way.
the Story:
Cree decided it was finally time for her to step out of her room and explore the place. Though exploring wasn't really what she planned to do. She just wanted something to drink and seeing that it was Christmas, she felt a little booze would be a nice way to celebrate. Even if she would end up drinking alone.
She slowly walked out of the room, wearing the pink skull pajama pants and white tank top she found in her closet and the socks that Hunny had tied to her door. Boy were these hallways long, she quietly thought to herself while making her way down it. Cree didn't mind the distance though. She actually really enjoyed taking long walks and would do so almost every day just to pass the time.
Louis had been disappointed to see the sky outside the same darkness he had become accustomed to in his long existence. Tired of skimming what information he found on the provided computers and staring out the window, he took to the hallways in hopes to locate a rumored library he'd seen someone on the computer mention.
After about fifteen minutes he found nothing but an endless maze of...well, more hallways. That was when Louis spotted a contemporarily dressed young girl, and quickly moved to the other side of the hallway, nodding in greeting to be polite but kept his attention on the floor.
It took Cree awhile to notice the unknown figure walking along the other side of hallway and she was almost a little surprised when she did. She really thought she was the only one walking about tonight. Not wanting to be rude, she turned her head to face the man and smiled softly. "Merry Christmas," she greeted. "Are you looking for the kitchen too?"
There was some comfort in hearing another voice, full with the wholeness human voices carried, the pumping of life in a place he thought was death. He was supposed to be dead, wasn't he? But then he was before he decided to face the sun as well.
"Merry Christmas..." Louis returned the greeting politely in his usual soft voice. Then he shook his head lightly, arms hanging lightly at his sides. "The library, actually."
It had only been a few days since Cree arrived, but she felt the same comfort the older man did when he spoke as well. Before she came to the mansion, she always had someone to spend time with and was rarely alone, so it was nice to actually talk to someone in person instead of through a computer. She smiled again before speaking.
"I'm Cree and I didn't know there was a library here. Guess I really should get started on exploring this place soon." She pulled up the pants that were just a size too big for her and continued to walk, enjoying the new company. "Are you new here too?"
Fine eyebrows raised slightly at that, recognizing the name as one of the people he'd spoken to shortly on the computer. "Oh, Miss Cree...It's nice to meet you in person. I apologize for not recognizing you before," he said politely, giving her a half-smile that faded slowly. "I'm Louis."
"There's no need to apologize Louis. I didn't recognize you either." She smiled bigger this time and placed her hand out to shake. "It's nice to meet you in person as well. Are you hungry at all?" Cree was planning on making something to eat and didn't mind sharing her meal. She always made a little too much anyway.
He took her hand gently, never comfortable with shaking the hand of a lady, and therefore gave it a quick kiss on the knuckle. Louis let go just as gently, looking past Cree for a moment down the hallway.
"I wouldn't mind knowing where the kitchen is." She wouldn't want to be around him when he was hungry, anyway.
The gentle kiss made Cree blush just slightly, not being used to that type of greeting, but she thought it was very sweet. Rail could take a lesson or two from Louis. She nodded her head to Louis' reply as the two made their way down the hall. They passed many rooms and soon came up to a staircase that went down three floors below it.
Never had Louis been so happy to see stairs before. He gave a sigh of relief and a quiet, amused chuckle. "I'd been beginning to think these halls really did continue on over," he said as they began to descend the staircase. "If this really is 'wonderland'..."
"Wonderland?" Cree raised a brow at that, never hearing this place called that before. "Is that what this place is called? I just thought it was some weird mansion." She shrugged slightly and looked at Louis playfully. "Race ya?" If Cree knew she just challenged a vampire to a race, she probably would have kicked herself. Everyone knew vampires had super-human speed and asking one to a race would mean a definite loss for the challenger.
Luckily for Cree, Louis' gentlemanly nature would never use that advantage, but most of all, he was in no rush to shout 'hey, look, I'm a vampire and will probably be using you people as sustenance pretty soon!' Or perhaps Louis was just not one to race people down stairs. Take your pick.
Raising a brow at the challenge, the dark-haired man motioned down the stairs. "After you, Mademoiselle. Head start."
Cree was hoping for some fun, but thought Louis' kind gesture to let her go first was very nice. Nothing wrong with being a gentleman, she thought. The world was definitely in desperate need for more of them. Instead of racing down the stairs, she slowly walked down them, bowing slightly to the gentleman before doing so.
He gave a nod back, staying a step behind her. Letting his eyes wander, Louis let himself appreciate the architecture of the place, and the expansiveness of it - after being lost for quite a while, of course.
"Do you know where the kitchen is?"
The two wanderers finally made their way to the first floor and Cree stopped when the question was asked. She honestly didn't know where it was, but thought it'd be pretty obvious when they came across it. "Actually, I don't, but we should know what it is when we see it right?" She laughed nervously hoping he didn't mind looking for the place with her.
Louis just shrugged with a soft rise of the shoulders, showing he wasn't bothered. "We will run into something eventually, I'm sure..." Having a little look around would probably be for the best either way - a good baring of your surroundings was just common sense.
Looking around one corner, he questioned, "What happened to you before you arrived here...? If you don't mind me asking."
Body language was always a good way to tell how a person was really feeling and seeing Louis' made Cree feel a little more at ease. She nodded in reply as they continued on their way down another long hallway.
"I don't mind at all," she said with a sweet smile. "All I remember was walking downtown, people watching and then I tripped over a pothole." The talking girl looked around the hall again. It was the same as the other, so she continued on with her story, occasionally looking up at her companion. "I guess I fell unconscious, but instead of waking up face first into some cement, I was in bed. The bed that's in the room I occupy now. Strange huh?"
He nodded to show he was listening, but didn't offer any immediate response. It was very likely that she could have fallen to her death...but that thought stirred up century old memories that Louis still had to contend with. Trying to keep a level head, he chose the lesser of two evils and cleared his throat quietly to speak,
"Do you think it's possible that you - pardon me for suggesting - died from that trip?"
These doors did seem...endless. Was there really even a kitchen? Did people need to eat here?
Cree stopped when he asked the question. It didn't upset her any, she just wanted to take a moment to really think about the answer. It could very well possibly be true, but it seemed strange to die from just tripping and falling face first. It'd really fall under that freak accident category in her book.
"You know, I never really thought about that. I guess that could've happened, but I really don't know if it's true." After standing there for a moment, she decided to start walking again. "I guess I'll never really know now either," she said with a shrug, not really caring about the matter. If she really did die, there wasn't anything she could do to change it so she might as well enjoy the situation she was in. It was a lot better than just blacking out and turning into a blob of nothingness.
He would have shared her sentiment if she'd voiced it. It didn't really matter at this point, but he still wanted to know, but maybe he was hoping to finally meet that nothingness that he had been so afraid of for nearly 200 years.
"I suppose not," Louis said quietly for conversation's sake, keeping his gaze ahead.
After what seemed like miles of walking, the two slowly came up to an open area that looked like a living room. Though it was a lot bigger than one would expect. We are in a mansion Cree.. For a second, the girl thought about taking a break and enjoying those soft looking cushions, but the soft rumble in her stomach made her decide against it.
"What about you? What's the last thing you remember before arriving here?" Cree turned the tables and returned the question back to the man. She figured he wouldn't mind talking about his own experience if he asked about hers.
"..." Oh, how wrong she was. It was hypocritical, yes, but delving into his own confused existence couldn't be summed up in a few simple sentences in the past tense.
Shrugging again, Louis smiled to himself in that soft, melancholy way he had down so well. "I saw the sun, and remember thinking that it was beautiful."
"Wow, that's a really nce image." It was a very nice way to leave the world you were from. A lot better than the way she left hers. Nothing like falling face first into some cement. Cree grumbled to herself silently. Calling herself a klutz and reminding herself to watch where she walked. If someone could actually hear her thoughts, they'd really think she was just a bit crazy.
Luckily for her, Louis had never had that power, though his ability to read people as they were was something he had developed even during his humanity. He just smiled a little more, pushing other thoughts from his mind. It was comforting, in a strange way, to know he wasn't the only one 'out of the loop' here.
"Have you tried venturing out of this place yet?"
Cree eyes widened when she finally saw the kitchen and her stomach made a sound that seemed just a bit too big for a girl her size. It made her cheeks instantly turn red and she tried her best to hide that.
"Y'know. This is actually the first time I've stepped out of that room." That explained why she had no clue where the kitchen was, or anything else in the mansion.
Louis didn't comment on the tummy rumble, instead loosely crossing his arms across his chest. "Understandable, I haven't either." He eyed the doorway to the kitchen, peeking inside. "Do you suppose they serve late night meals?"
"I think I might have to make something myself," Cree said sadly. She wasn't the best cook, but was still able to make something without burning anything. She wasn't really in the mood to cook anything big at that moment, and hoped that there was something small to munch on in the fridge - maybe some alcohol too.
She slowly walked into the kitchen area and made a beeline for that fridge. Poking her head in, she found a few random fruits and condiments inside - definitely not something she wanted to munch on. Time to check those cabinets. Jackpot. Cree pulled out a bottle of wine of vodka and waved them in the air happily. Even though she had no luck finding food, she thought a drink would do just fine. "Want some?"
Louis shook his head, taking a position to lean back against the counter. "Non merci, I'm alright." He wasn't thirsty, at least not at the moment.
Thankfully.
"Oh alright," Cree said a little sadly. She didn't mind drinking alone, but then remembered someone saying they'd join her. "Well since I didn't see anything I'd like to eat, I guess I'll just go hang out in the parlor." It seemed weird for her to begetting drunk drinking in the kitchen. "Care to join me or are you going to go look for that library?"
He smiled and shook his head politely. "I wouldn't want you to be the only one drinking, Miss...I think I'll try to find that library, if you don't mind."
"Don't mind at all. Hopefully you don't get too lost," she teased. Cree carefully grabbed a glass and slowly made her way towards the parlor, bottles of vodka and wine also in hand. "Thanks for the company Louis. It was really nice to meet you in person," she said with a sweet smile. She'd wave goodbye but her hands were a little full.
"It was a pleasure to meet you as well, Miss Cree." He gave her a slight bow of the head and waited for her to leave. After a moment, Louis exited the kitchen as well in hopes he could lose himself in something fictional. And that perhaps he would wake up again somewhere else.
