Who: Robin Hood Robert Archer, & James Rogers Jake Archer / Robin Hood Robert Archer & Ava
Where: Random places in Storybrooke
When: The duration of the Storybrooke event
Rating: G or PG I guess?
Summary: Robert + Jake adorable father/son times, and Robert hanging out with his friend, the gym teacher
The Story:
Robert Archer is a widower with three wonderful children whom he loves dearly. He's proud of the people they've grown up to be, and with his daughters recently turning twenty-one, he's feeling more nostalgic and sentimental than usual, feeling like that years have passed by far too quickly.
He makes a living as a History teacher, generally somewhat of an introvert who loves to be at home with his family, cooking, reading, playing games. He very rarely dates, since his heart will always belong to his late wife, but he's happy and doesn't think about it much. Life is good, from his perspective, and of course, he has no idea that this isn't how things are supposed to be, has no memory of his son, Roland, back home in the real Storybrooke.

For "Jake"
Since it's Sunday, Robert decides they're going to have a nice, large breakfast, but he waits for his son to wake up, wanting to show him how to cook as much as he can.

So, because he knows his father will be waiting for him, James doesn't go back to sleep and instead rolls out of bed and downstairs, red hair sticking up in every single direction. Seriously, he looks like he stuck his hand in a socket.
He mumbles what might be "good morning" to his father and immediately heads for the juice in the fridge. He doesn't like coffee, but he really needs that sugar pick me up first thing in the morning.

Smirking softly to himself, Robert sips at his coffee, reaching out to ruffle the boy's hair. "I imagine you need a few moments to collect yourself before we get started."
no subject
One glass of orange juice down and he's a bit more awake. He sips at his second glass. Juice is his coffee, but he likes the smell of it when his dad drinks it. "Get started?" Jake asks, curious. He doesn't remember what they're doing.
no subject
"We're going to make breakfast together, lad," he tells him matter-of-factly, opening up the fridge to grab a carton of eggs, some milk, butter, precooked hashbrowns, and cheese. The flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar are already on the counter. "A simple egg frittata, and pancakes. It might seem like a lot of ingredients, but it won't take us terribly long to get everything put together, not with both of us working together."
no subject
They are making pancakes. Jake loves pancakes. He can't cook them, but he loves eating stacks of them. He can, and has, eaten himself sick on them. He plans on doing so again this morning and then collapsing on the couch for the rest of the morning, digesting.
"Pancakes!" He chugs down the second glass of juice and grins. "Show me oh wise father."
no subject
"I'll admit the prep work for all of this can get a bit tedious, but we can manage quickly together." He hands Jake the carton of eggs. "Can you start with cracking open all the eggs in this carton? I'll start the hashbrowns cooking."
no subject
Jake grins and starts cracking the eggs. And if he gets a little bit of shell in there, too, well, it'll be good for everyone. Right? Right!
no subject
While he wouldn't agree with the eggshells, he's also just far too glad they're doing this together to criticize, especially since he's had his fair share of getting eggshells in things by accident.
Robert gets the dry ingredients measured out for the pancakes while the hashbrowns are cooking, then smiles at his son.
"I think some chocolate chips might make these pancakes even better, what do you think, my boy?"
no subject
Jake grabs the kind his Dad tells him to and brings them back to where they are working, going back to whisking the eggs. "Are we using spinach, kale or something else for the frittata?" He probably overworked the eggs. Oops?
no subject
The hashbrowns are crispy enough now - having been cooking at a high heat - for the eggs, so Robert looks at his son. "Spinach. I'll grab that while you pour the eggs in there with the hashbrowns." And while that's going, they can get the pancake batter finished and ready.
no subject
Like missing the pan with some of the eggs and dripping it down the side. "Crap!" He grabs a washcloth and begins trying to clean up his mess. What he really does is make a bigger mess. "Uh, help?" He asks, holding a dripping cloth while the eggs start to set in the pan.
no subject
The more important thing is doing this together, however messy it might be. Grabbing another cloth and some paper towels, Robert bends to clean up the mess from the floor, then a bit on the pan and the stovetop itself, mixing in the eggs with the the hashbrowns thoroughly. "Best if I supervise a bit more, I think."
The pancake batter is ready, though, so in a moment when the pan can be popped into the oven, he'll just do the pancakes with Jake.
no subject
"I don't know why you let me help, we always end up with a mess." Jake points out, teasingly. Not that it isn't an edible mess, but it's definitely not the most appetizing thing to see.
no subject
He stands next to him, overseeing everything, and once the eggs are right where they should be, he sprinkles the cheese on and pops the skillet into the oven.
"And now for our pancakes."
Once the griddle pan is hot, Robert pours the batter on, and while they're cooking, smiles at his son.
"I do this because I happen to enjoy my son's company."
no subject
Very carefully, under Robert's eye, he manages to flip one pancake without making too much of a failure of it. That's progress right there! Last time, well, they'd ended up scraping pancake off the window while cooking more.
"You're a sap, dad." Not that Jake minds.
no subject
He rests a hand lightly on Jake's shoulder after his son flips the pancake. "Nicely done, lad."
no subject
He manages to get the pancake off the griddle without any damage. And then put more batter on. That didn't go so well, though. Jake sighs. "I'm never going to get this, ya know. We've been trying for how long?"

"Why don't we compromise, lad. After breakfast, we'll do something together that you enjoy."

"Mmm, well what sort of father would I be if we didn't order in? Pizza, chicken wings, perhaps?"
no subject
"Chicken wings from the bar? They have better ones than the pizza place. We can get burgers too?" Because that's important.
For "Ava"
"Is your day going well so far?"
no subject
At least today anyway. There's a smile as she comments - today gym is only scheduled for the afternoon, though she hadn't had a completely free morning. There's always something to do, or check. She likes to make sure that everything's ready, available and working before class so it can start easily - even if that means she checks it more than once.
"At least no one's been sent to detention yet."
As far as she knows. She has that to look forward to too.
"Hopefully you'll keep it that way."
no subject
He's teasing, of course, and he rarely sends students to detention. He tends to be more lenient, perhaps more than he should be.
"What have you got for lunch?"
no subject
And definitely hope that he stuck to it. Not that she had anything to worry about - Robert was definitely one of the kinder people that she knew in Storybrooke.
"Ham. I regret not going to Granny's before coming here."
The sandwich wasn't that bad but Granny's pretty much beat any sandwich she could make.
no subject
Taking a bite of his sandwich now, he smiled with a nod.
"One of Granny's cheeseburgers sounds perfect right now."
no subject
And only Granny's pie. She'd never been fond of it before, at least not that she could recall. She didn't even know why Granny's was better - maybe it was magic.
"Might have to get some after." Now that they'd mentioned it, anyway. "You should come."
no subject
They could both get different types, and it truly didn't matter, but he liked getting a sense for what people preferred in terms of flavor. Plus, he would know just that much more about her.
no subject
The question wasn't real but it gave Ava a little more time to think about it before having to answer.
Not that she needed to think - when she ordered pie she didn't usually. There were a lot she liked but she definitely knew her favourite.
"Blueberry."
no subject
He loved apple pie, and pumpkin, and tended to just stick with both of those. Not that he was opposed to trying blueberry, of course.
no subject
Which is what was going to happen if he went for pie with her - he'd get to try it. And maybe it wouldn't be that much of a blow to their friendship if he didn't like it.
no subject
There's a chance he might not, but he doubts it. Plus, if he truly didn't like it, he wouldn't say so. Robert is too sweet for that, and wouldn't want to risk perhaps hurting her feelings.
"Perhaps we should get some together after work."
no subject
It was said with a small nod, a little thought being given as to whether she had any other plans but she didn't - she was safe. Although she rarely ever had plans outside of work.
"You also don't have to stick to the blueberry."
Any pie was a great pie - from Granny's anyway.
no subject
"Truthfully, I don't get out as much as I should, my children often tease me about forever having my head in my books when I'm not working."
no subject
Or just pie in general. Ava could appreciate reading, and while she certainly didn't get out all that much more herself - school, gym, pie/a beer and her apartment? - kind of pot and kettle situation here, but she at least knew she wasn't doing much.
"I think your book can do without you for one night."
no subject
Though more to the point, he was missing out on getting to know people like Ava better. Robert wasn't terribly outgoing, didn't tend to have many friends, and he didn't generally feel as though anything was lacking in that regard. He had a rich and fulfilling life. But talking to her, getting to know her a bit more, he could admit to himself it might be nice to see her more often, outside of lunch in a school setting.
"I do think I'd enjoy the gift of your company a bit more often."
