Summary: Catch-all event post for Sam Yao and his mirror.
The Story:

Real Sam
He thought he'd be able to stay out of things, but that's never really been Sam's style. It's difficult to stay out of things when the last year of your life has involved very definitely getting involved in everything. Everything important anyway.

He starts with the familiar; caches of food and other supplies hidden at various points around the mansion and gardens for anyone to find. A few for himself. He'd rather not get caught short this time, not when that dream and had left a feeling of dread that pooled at the base of his neck and refused to leave.

And then came the messages on the mirrors and people vanishing.

The other side of the mirrors is as cool and alien and familiar as he remembers it being but this time the Mirrors aren't hunting them and there's terror everywhere.

He scrawls a note across a mirror as close to his room as he can, to warn them of where he is.

Mirror!Sam
The sword is gone. They've been tricked! Lied to. Betrayed. And if there's one thing that Sam hates, it's traitors. Monsters like that don't deserve the life the Queen gives them. But first the Jabberwocky has to be brought down. It's strong and fast and Sam sees other mirrors cut down and devoured until there's nothing left. And the sword sure as hell isn't here. So why not let the real thing fight instead while there's still work to be done.

Sam jerked in shock, his eyes widening at the blunt language. That was more than he ever wanted to know about his double. "Shouldn't you be asking if he's anything like me."

Sam was the original after all. He'd also never learnt to keep his mouth shut.

"Well you both like to talk back to me. It's a good thing I like it when people are feisty." Billy moved closer still, backing Sam against the closed door. "It's so much more satisfying when I break them."

He was too close, Sam's mouth gone dry with fear which flared in his eyes when the mirror said that. No, no this wasn't happening. "Get out of my way. You're not Billy."

"No, I'm not." He doesn't move, gaze level with Sam. "I'm better than him, stronger, more powerful. I'm everything he could become if he would just embrace the power he's been given instead of hiding from it like a scared little boy."

He tilts his head to the side, studying him. "Do you know what it's like to know you have the power to erase existence with just a single thought? One wish and everything could disappear. Poof. He could have anything he wanted. Power, money, fame, and he choses to ignore it all."

"Power doesn't always make you better," Sam grinds out, trying to keep his voice sounding calm. Something tells him that this Billy wouldn't keep his magic to making stuffed toys float around.

"I've seen someone with power like that already, and he was a monster." The day Van Ark died would be a day when all of Abel celebrated. "Billy is a good person."

"Billy is a weak person." His voice is a harsh low growl. "When they tortured him, when they turned on him for being who he is, for using his power for good, he forgave them. He let them get away with that. Have you ever seen the scars in his ears? Has he ever told you what they did to Teddy while forcing him to watch?" Forcing me to watch.

"That's what happens when you're a 'good person'. He forgave, I made a promise to never be that weak again."

Sam's eyes widened at that, and he gave the mirror a shocked look.

"What?" No, he'd never heard of that. He looked stricken by the knowledge. And the knowledge that he probably wouldn't have been able to forgive the same done to his people, to any of them. He hadn't forgiven Simon after all.

Billy smirked he wasn't expecting to surprise Sam that much. But this was good, he could work with this. "Ask him about why he doesn't like when anyone touches his ears. Or better yet, try to touch one." That would be fun to watch.

"You seem overly surprised. Why is that? Surprised he hasn't told you, or surprised he hasn't turned into me yet? He almost did you know, almost wished for the man torturing Teddy to die. But he didn't have the guts. That's where we started to differ. I had the guts, I wished him dead. I wished that every single cut, every wound he inflicted on Teddy he would feel until the only thing left he could do was slash his own throat to ease his suffering."

"Anyone would wish that," Sam said, or maybe that was just him. It was difficult to tell how far you'd go when pushed. That Billy hadn't done that was just a testament to what a good person he was. "There's a difference between thinking something and doing it and it doesn't make him weak."

But he couldn't say that he would do the same in Billy's position.

"Oh no? Then what does it make him?" He lifted his hand placing it against the wall next to Sam's head. "You would have done the same as me, wouldn't you have? I can see it in your eyes. Have you ever killed someone Sam?"

"A good person who doesn't want to cause harm." He can respect that. He wishes he lived in a world where that was possible. He gulps when Billy leans closer, caging him in, and despite his fear, meets his eyes squarely.

"I killed my parents."

Billy grins. This is just getting better and better. He licks his lips, glancing down at Sam's mouth and then back up to catch his gaze again.

"Did you? How did it feel?"

He's not sure what that look is, but he knows it makes him uncomfortable. He snarls when Billy asks that. "It was hell! They were my parents for god's sake! It was horrible!"

Billy smirks. Sam is riled up and he likes it. "Of course it was. But it made you feel stronger, didn't it? Because if you can survive that than you can survive anything."

Sam hates it. It's a horrible thing, something he hates remembering. "No! I hate it. It feels awful."

"Of course you do. But you can't deny what you can survive though makes you stronger. Powerful. You would kill again if you have to." Billy moves in closer. "Does you boyfriend know that?"

Sam tries to shy away from him, but there's nowhere to go. "So would anyone from my home. He knows where I come from."

"Does he? Does he really? You know they have a code right? Young Avengers don't kill." Billy lifts his hand tipping Sam's chin up to look at him. "Am I making you uncomfortable?"

He hadn't known that, and it shows on his face. "They were already dead," Sam replied harshly. Never mind that he would have shot New Canton Runners if they'd invaded his home, that he would gladly shoot Van Ark or his soldiers if he thought it would stick.

He flinches when the mirror touches him, forcing his head up. "Seen worse than you."

"Dead, undead. Does it matter?" He muses.

"Oh I'm sure you have, but that doesn't answer my question. Am i making you uncomfortable?" He punctuates each word by moving in closer, keeping eye contact with Sam.

"Of course it matters!" Sam snapped. Zombies were dead, they weren't coming back. Even if they'd been people he loved, they were just so much rotting flesh now.

There wasn't much closer for him to get, so the movement left him pressed up against Sam so he'd be able to feel the rise and fall of his chest. "Yes. Does that make you happy?"

"A little." Billy smirked. "I wonder what he would think if he saw us like this. He could you know, he could be looking through the mirror right at us. If he's still alive anyway."

"He's still alive," Sam said, certain of that if nothing else. Why would a dead person have a reflection?

"He wouldn't care. He'd know you're a mirror."

"Are you sure? You know if you die on that side you die for good right? Who says he's not dead and I'm here permanently now." Billy didn't really know what would happen to him if his real died, but he was sure his queen would save him.

"You're a reflection and you don't get one of those if the original is gone," he said. Stupid maybe, but he was freaked out.
