The Story:

» HENRY MILLS

[It's like Wonderland looks at what's happening within its borders and goes "how can I make this worse?" Who looks at everything going on in Wonderland, and not even counting Zelena's insanity because there's always something dire happening outside the confines of Regina's bubble and goes "Yes, this more snow and less food?" By now, she's been here over a year and the place's ability to ruin everything even more is always shocking.

But that's not important, not now.

The only important thing now is finding Henry. Thoughts of what Zelena could possibly make her do go ignored because in a place like this, her priority is the same as it's been for a very long time: her son. The first day of the event had been an entirely unsuccessful search, and she wishes she had the means to make a locater spell but thanks to someone, all her supplies are gone for the moment. So, she's forced to resort to hunting him down.]

Henry? Henry!

[Stalking through the halls of the research station is not how she wanted to spend her day, but Henry is the priority.]

» MR. GOLD

[The only way things could be more awful is if Zelena showed up to gloat some more. But Wonderland can also be kind and not just cruel, so thankfully she doesn't appear. Not that Regina intends to rely on Wonderland's kindness, mind. Instead, she leaves the room Henry left her in after the paranoia got to him after enough time passes. Oh, it had been building in the back of her mind too, but the thing about having Zelena for a sister and Rumplestiltskin for a mentor / ally / enemy / whatever he is at any given moment is that someone is always plotting to get you. That simple fact makes it easier to ignore, at least until Henry made his accusations.

It doesn't matter what influences, magical or otherwise, are at play, it doesn't change how much of an effect words can have. So Regina holes herself up in one of the more distant rooms, after checking the general layout of the place and a brief walk outside. She doesn't bother putting up a protection spell, the only person who might seek her out could force her to take it down anyway. Instead, she pulls together some broken chairs and makes herself a fire to ride out the event.

She could've done without the intruder.]

[Henry's heart is beating a little fast, but he holds onto her hand, like he's ten again. But he holds on, very unwilling to let go for now. The paranoia is setting in, just a bit, but right now there's still too much relief at seeing her, so his thoughts don't go straight to what she could do.]

It feels like something bad is going to happen. I mean...worse than just this. People are going to get hurt, or...die.

[His eyes flick up to meet hers in the gauzy darkness.]

We can't stay in here. I don't want to be inside.

[If Regina's grip is just a little too tight, caught up in her fear of losing him amidst the darkened hallways, that's her business.]

I think people already have.

[Which probably isn't the best thing to say, but it slipped out before she could stop it. At his admission, she nods.]

I think it's this way. Maybe we can find somewhere safer outside.

[Haha no.]

[Henry frowns deeply at what she says, and then all he can think about, is Zelena and the fact that Regina doesn't have her heart right now.]

Are you sure you want to keep me safe?

[He stops walking, but his hand is still in hers as he looks up at her.]

Maybe Zelena is making you take me to her.

Henry, wh-- [She cuts herself off when what he said actually sinks in. She can hardly blame him; it was the reason she made him leave and hide, after all. But that doesn't mean she wants to hear it from him, like that.] I don't even know where Zelena is.

[Her sister might have her heart, but she would fight that order with every fiber of her being. There would be no promises of safety, only warnings and urging him to run and find the people that could stop her.]

You have to believe me, I just want you safe.

[Henry's eyes narrow a little though, and he steps away from her, hand dropping out of hers now.]

I don't know that. You tried to make me think I was crazy once. You tried to lock me in the house so I couldn't leave. You tried to kill my mom.

[He's breathing harder now, his eyes darting away from her, to check his exits, to see where he can run.]

Maybe it's not just Zelena who wants to use me. Maybe it's better for you if time changes. Then I'll never be born and your curse can never be broken.

[Which, rationally doesn't even make sense because Zelena's goal is to erase Regina too. But he's not thinking straight, hasn't thought this all the way through.]

[Her hand grasps at the air for a second as she tries to stop him from letting go, eventually she lets her hand fall to her side.]

Henry, [Anybody else and she would quite literally laugh them off, but this is Henry. Even after everything he's saying, he chose to believe in her, stood by her when nobody else would so she could prove herself.] I've changed, you know that.

[Part of her knew this day would come eventually, even if it is aided by Wonderland. But that's just it, isn't it? The paranoia is clearly Wonderland but how far does that go? Is it putting words in his mouth, or does he actually think this all the time? No, she can't think like that.]

I regret everything about how I treated you, [Considering she doesn't regret all those murders and wiping villages off the map and oh yeah, casting the curse, that's saying a lot.] and if I could take it back, I would, but I can't.

You don't want to! [His voice is loud when he yells the last word, it echos, and he's backing away from her now. He doesn't think he's ever felt like this before, and nothing rational is coming to him, all he can think is that he needs to run.]

I don't want to be here. I don't want to be here with you. All you've ever wanted is what's best for you, not me. I can take care of myself.

[And with that he turns and runs, sailing around an exit and making random turns through the halls to make it harder for her to find him. When Henry finally stops he's breathing hard, and now he has to figure out what next.]

[She's left standing in a stunned silence, the already foul atmosphere getting worse with each passing second. Despite how much she's changed, mostly because of Henry's belief, she'd be lying if she said she never expected something like this. That one day Henry would see through her attempts to change, to be a better mother, a better person and realise that she can call herself a hero as much as she likes but it won't change who she really is. Who she has always been.]

Henry!

[She recovers quickly enough, but not enough to keep sight of him as he escapes into the hallways. A right turn here, a wrong there and there and there and eventually she stops trying. Even if she had the means to make a locater spell, it wouldn't be the right thing to do. If anything, it'd be feeding into his claims that Zelena is behind his. Instead, all she can do is hope that Emma or Neal or even Hook find him before he gets hurt.]
