No. This is still ridiculous. [OPEN]

Who: Cullen Rutherford & YOU!
Where: Various! (forest, dining hall, library,...)
When: February 1st, all day
Rating: PG-13, will update if necessary
Summary: Cullen has found no comfort in the explanations offered to him so far. He turns to prayer and books next, but these, too, will only do so much to put his mind at ease. For an abominable prison, at least, Wonderland is rather spacious, even if a certain recent arrival yet denies himself most of its luxuries.
The Story:

I. The Forest

"Though all before me is shadow,"

The cold nests in the hard ground, and both feel as disturbingly real as they did from the moment he arrived. A chill creeps into him easily, but he does not rise from his knees. Cullen shifts slightly, and the snow crunches under his weight.

"Yet shall the Maker be my guide,"

When he sought to pray a simple room transformed into a chapel in front of his very eyes. He turned from it, repulsed. Indeed, too many of these bright and beautiful sights appear all too close to a comfort he will not permit himself to accept. And yet, already he's let them turn him from walking further, was that not mistake enough already?

"I shall not be left to--"

Cullen flinches. A sound nearby, or was it? He listens. Silence. Perhaps only the wind...

"I shall not be left to wander the drifting roads of the Beyond,"

Silence. Thick and eerie and somehow wrong, as everything in these woods appears to be. As everything in this land ought to be, but there are only so many places one can turn to to escape the worst of its wonders. In this the forest has become a strange reassurance to him.

"For there is no darkness in the Maker's Light, and nothing that He has wrought--"

Cullen jumps to his feet. A sound, again. Closer and louder this time, he's sure of it. His eyes dart from tree to tree, and his hand wanders to the sword at his side. A useless habit now, for how could he even begin to fight all of this? Cullen sighs.

"...shall be lost."

II. The Library

[ The collection is impressive, but Cullen supposes that was to be expected. Everything here is so very remarkably impressive, and beautiful, and convenient, and wrong. He should leave it behind without a second glance, but he cannot help but wonder what sort of knowledge it might claim to hold.

He strolls midway down an aisle, and pulls a book from its shelf. He flips to a page in its middle, and squints at the sight. Orlesian lettering, or at least something which resembles it rather than any other script he knows. Gibberish, or a matter for a scholar? Cullen himself certainly cannot make out the meaning. He gives a small sigh.
]

Ah. Of course...

[ He slides the book back in its place, when another cover at its side catches his eye. An all too familiar sight, not from personal experience, but from its infamy alone. Cullen stares at the pristine edition of 'Hard in Hightown', and a disbelieving groan escapes his lips. ]

Of course.

III. The Dining Hall

The large hall is empty when he enters. He has lost track of time, of which the forces at work here must no doubt approve, but he wonders if there might come an hour for people to pour into this room. If he waited, how many would he meet, and who? The prisoners or the jailers? Those as desperate to leave this place as he, or those already resigned to its wiles?

As if on cue the table nearest to him springs to life with unholy magic: A place is set for him invitingly, and from thin air appears a bowl, filled to the brim with something which bears an uncanny resemblance to turnip and barley stew. Its scent fills the air, warm and inviting. Cullen's stomach rumbles treacherously.

"Not in this lifetime," he growls under his breath, and hastily turns to leave.

IV. Miscellany

[ Cullen will explore Wonderland as best as he can, so he could reasonably be encountered absolutely anywhere. Set up your own starter, both prose and comment spam format is fine! ]
