OPEN | well, i don't know where they come from but they sure do come

Who: Everyone and some adorable, rolly polly, purring kittens.
Where: Ballroom.
When: April 4th.
Rating: PG? It's kittens, how bad can it get.
Summary: As advertised, Anders wished for some kittens, now there are kittens, please adopt a kitten, kittens everywhere.

The Story:

[In the ballroom with plenty of space for them to romp around, Anders and Alistair set the kittens loose.

When he'd been thinking about them, Anders had had a particular image in his mind: a bunch of kittens sitting in a padded wicker basket like something out of a graphic illustration or inspired by a toilet paper brand. Who wouldn't find that adorable? That's exactly what he'd gotten, and exactly what they load the kittens up in to move them downstairs. Once the basket is deposited in the center of the room, some stay napping in its cushioned confines, others tumble out to explore.

Anders takes the time to bring up food, water, and litter. After some internal debating, he scatters some cat toys around the room, too. Welcome to Wonderland's one and only kitty daycare, for a limited time only!]

(OOC: Don't worry about threading with Anders or Alistair if you want to join in just for kittens. Consider this a mingle log where you can make your own posts, tag around, etc.)

[Ah, if looks could kill. He'd never have survived past childhood. But he'd also be feeling very threatened right now.

Alistair smirks as he backs away, hands raised to ward her off.]
No, no, I can't! She's imprinted on you, see? It would be cruel to take her away. She'd just start crying and never stop, wouldn't eat, wouldn't sleep. You're not going to doom a poor little kitty to a life of misery now are you? How cold can you be?

[ The temperature seems to drop several degrees. ]

Don't be ridiculous. Cats don't imprint.

[If he had better survival instincts he might start running now. As he doesn't he simply stands there grinning proudly like an idiot.]

These are magic cats. How do you know they don't imprint? Are you willing to risk breaking her poor widdle heart?

[ Natasha is still glaring at him, the power of which is diminished somewhat because the cat is still being openly affectionate to her. ]

My bullshit meter is going off. I wonder why.

[Alphys smiles as a cat climbs it's way onto her knee, tripping into the space where her lab coat is stretched over her legs. It catches like a hammock and the kitten circles around, messing with the empty space. Meanwhile, she can feel another trying to conquer her tail. They're not biting or clawing at her yet, so she'll let them stay. No harm no foul after all. Still, she musters her best friendly smile at Anders when he turns, gently patting the one sitting on her coat.]

Y-Yeah! I uhm, h-had a friend who was a cat, a-actually. She had, r-really wanted a pet cat too... or, w-well, I think she had wanted to b-be a pet cat? Maybe b-both. But I've never, uhm, h-had a cat like this, before. There, uh, w-weren't any, where I used to live.

[Not many house cats underneath a mountain, after all.]

How can you say that? Just look at her! She loves you already. [And isn't just a kitten looking for any affection, oh no.] Isn't that magical enough?

[He can lay it on thicker if that would help convince her.]

[ Because no one can resist a tiny face with big blue eyes, Adaline comes into the ballroom not too long after their conversation on the network. ]

...This is a lot of kittens. [ ok she'd said that before but this is seriously out of control. ]

There are an endless amount of rooms in this place and no shortage of spaces for a kitten to sleep.

[But that reply comes defensively because she's already considering it. A cat. At least it's not as involved as a dog, which would be too much to take on considering that Henry already has Lucky. He'll know she's hooked when she pulls the kitten a little closer, trying to support her instead of setting the animal free. She doesn't want the little furball to hurt herself while she's whining her way into picking up an owner.]

And you're just saying that because you're in over your head.

[Emma may be sold on this, but Alistair is just as screwed.]

[Tiny scratches hurt the worst of all, how can Anders not appreciate that fact?]

They could learn with less scratching.

[But if Anders refuses to appreciate his plight then at least he is willing to let Alistair chase after the ones making a run for it without a squirming armful. Passing his charges off he darts off after the runaway, coming back a minute later with a cat in each hand.]

He ran into a friend out in the hall. Lucky for me no one's door was open. [Otherwise he would have had to sneak into someone's room to retrieve them and knowing his usual luck? That wouldn't have gone down well.

Carrying them over to the basket he puts them back in with the others. Hesitating only a moment, Alistair scoops up the loudest one and wanders back over to Anders with it cradled against his chest, mewling all the while.]

What are you going to do if no one else wants one?

[Because he's pretty sure the answer is 'keep them' and that means there's going to be a room full of cats living right across from him. And given how this day has gone so far? He's not sure he can handle that.]

But not endless people to love them!

[He's sensing victory though, being as she has yet to put the kitten down and walk away. Would it be too much to try and talk her into another? Maybe he can convince her to take pity on him personally and find another one or two homes that way.]

I really am and it's not even my fault! [See how utterly despairing he is of the current situation? He's so far in over his head he can't even see the surface. It's very upsetting. Really.] I'm just trying to help a friend, I didn't cause this at all. Please say you'll help, I don't know what else to do!

[She gets his most pathetic puppy-dog eyes and he throws in a sniffle for good measure. Is it convincing? It didn't used to work when he was a boy but maybe she's a softer touch than the old Reverend Mother. It would be hard not to be.]

[ anders, you've got to be kitten me.

elena is being played. she knows she is being played. at the same time, the adorable little cat all up in her grill is, well, adorable. its paw is smushing her cheek, like it wants to play, play, play. she can't help how quickly she gets attached to people and apparently cats, okay. it's a problem.
]

I'd known the closets could provide a pet. I didn't realize it could provide so many at once.

[ was anders dreaming of a cat-filled clearing?

(and okay, maybe she's secretly wondering if billy or peter would like a cat. maybe clarke?)

[ He ends up with one kitten tucked in the crook of his neck and shoulder, whiskers brushing against his cheek. They relax him immediately. Animals do that, right? That's why sometimes veterans get animals to help them recover. He could certainly use one. ]

Damn, if this is the result, I need to start being less focussed when I get stuff out of it.

We do not. [she sounds offended by the implication that they'd keep such violent, disturbing little creatures on Homeworld.

Her offense only grows as she continues to try to escape the kitten.]

It can't just attack me and then decide it deserves my attention! [Said Peridot, who definitely believes that to be true of herself. Because she's secretly a cat in every way that counts.]

[She's extra careful as she takes the kitten from him nonetheless, now as wary about getting scratched as she is of hurting it.]

Hello, there. Aren't you wonderful? Yes, you are.

[She catches herself, feeling mildly embarrassed by her cooing tone.]

I don't have much experience with animals. Or any, really.

[She thinks about it for a second, realizes she doesn't have an answer.]

I d-don't know, exactly? Then again, I'm not sure if, uh, c-cat monsters are the same as cats? Or, uh, c-cat type monsters. It's sort of l-like, how human b-bones and skeleton bones are, uh, similar, but different? I'm not sure I'm e-explaining this correctly.

[Just then, one of the kittens pounces on the end of her tail- she was moving it, slightly, in thought. She lets out a small yelp, shifting back to pull the offending kitten off of her, placing it slightly away.]

But, they're adorable! I m-mean, I saw them in movies and, t-tv shows, but t-they're so fluffy! I d-don't think I could, uh, k-keep up with this many for a long, uh, t-time though.

[Even now, she's trying to make sure the few clustering around her aren't hunting her tail again.]
