OPEN | well, i don't know where they come from but they sure do come

Who: Everyone and some adorable, rolly polly, purring kittens.
Where: Ballroom.
When: April 4th.
Rating: PG? It's kittens, how bad can it get.
Summary: As advertised, Anders wished for some kittens, now there are kittens, please adopt a kitten, kittens everywhere.

The Story:

[In the ballroom with plenty of space for them to romp around, Anders and Alistair set the kittens loose.

When he'd been thinking about them, Anders had had a particular image in his mind: a bunch of kittens sitting in a padded wicker basket like something out of a graphic illustration or inspired by a toilet paper brand. Who wouldn't find that adorable? That's exactly what he'd gotten, and exactly what they load the kittens up in to move them downstairs. Once the basket is deposited in the center of the room, some stay napping in its cushioned confines, others tumble out to explore.

Anders takes the time to bring up food, water, and litter. After some internal debating, he scatters some cat toys around the room, too. Welcome to Wonderland's one and only kitty daycare, for a limited time only!]

(OOC: Don't worry about threading with Anders or Alistair if you want to join in just for kittens. Consider this a mingle log where you can make your own posts, tag around, etc.)

[ Wow, excuse you? Eight is probably more than you're keeping, Alistair. ]

A little of both, probably. It's storytelling, but it's not, and it's... Well. It's definitely playing pretend, but in such a boring way that I don't know if you could actually call it "playing." [ There's a shrug, gentle enough that she doesn't jostle the kittens in her arms around too much. But really, he was the one who was coming up with RPG character names for cats, so yeah, she's still surprised he doesn't know what the heck roleplaying is. ]

Could not! Pete's kind of a cute name, actually. It's funny because it's a name for a person. No one would expect you were talking to or about a cat when you said its name. [ No, she's still not going to be so cruel as to name one of the kittens Pete. ...Even if it's tempting just because it might bother him on some level. Honestly, Selina doesn't even try to keep her grin away, far too amused by this ridiculous conversation to bother. ]

Wow, really? You think Mittens is better? It's so overused! Pete is so much better, and way better than numbering them. I think calling one Mittens is the real act of cruelty here. [ She shakes her head and tuts, like it's such a shame he feels that way. ]

[Oh come on Emma! Live a little. Cats are resilient and she might come to appreciate the constant companionship.

The question of whether or not the kittens are going to be getting any bigger is a good one though and not something Alistair himself has considered. He's been told he doesn't need to worry about getting old in Wonderland. Even though he still needs to shave which is weird. But magical products of the mansion? Who can tell. At least if they do stay kittens forever it won't really be a problem. It wouldn't be like coming here with a baby and knowing it would never grow up.]

Alright, I will. [Or perhaps not. Naming their new pet seems like a nice thing for a mother and son to do together.] Is it just the two of you here? Or is your entire family with you? [There's perhaps a slightly wistful note to his voice as he asks but no more than would be expected from most people who might have been separated from their family by Wonderland.]

[ Adaline is usually more inclined to dogs - almost always moreso, in fact. But she's never had a cat, and she's not particularly against them and when she picks up the little seal point ragdoll she immediately sees the appeal. ]

...They're really quite precious.

[she glances down. the kitten looks back at her. some of her resolve breaks.] ...Well, no. It is a... aesthetically pleasing tiny apex predator.

[the kitten mews appreciatively at the compliment, which only makes her fluster more. now she really doesn't want to give it back.]

And I meant, uh... Claude. [she's pretty sure she heard that name on Camp Pining Hearts.] It's Canadian.

[Elizabeth stares almost resentfully at the spot in the air where the tear had been.]

Because it only seems to open tears to other versions of this world. I'd rather be stuck in this one, where we know a little more about what we're facing, than go into another with who knows what variables.

[The kitten has climbed up onto her shoulder while she opened the tear and she scoops it up in her arms again.]

They're not big enough to go through, anyway, not like they are in Columbia. Just big enough to have a look through, and I suppose to bring back objects from the other side.

[ elena lifts her eyebrows in amusement at anders' my dear lady.

they keep meeting all these dragon age people. why are they so damn charming?
]

You know, that's not the first time we've heard someone refer to themselves as a mage. Exactly how many of there are you?

[ she glances back down at the kitten once anders assures them there isn't anything to worry about. regardless of whether or not he's right, the kitten's eyes are wide and hopeful as they stare at her. there's no way elena is leaving this floor without it, is there? curse you, anders. ]

I don't know. [She hadn't tried, but none of the ones she'd opened had gone to the Mirror side, just variations of the one they were stuck in. She shudders as she remembers the condition in which she and Sam had found Alice's room, the desperate writing on the wrong side of the mirror, her only experience with that world so far.] I hope not.

[ She looks down, amused because yep -- it's already getting all over her. ]

I don't know that I really know how to take care of a cat...I'll need some tips. [ dammit. she's been suckered. ]

I would have but someone decided I needed to get involved in his mess and I wound up in the middle of it. [Any ideas who that someone might be Anders? Here's a hint, he's loud and annoying and asking to be dumped bodily into the garden fountain when there's no longer kittens to take care of.] Next time he can face the hordes of clawed beasts on his own.

[At least they can agree that nugs are disturbing. No surprise only the crazy ex-bard likes them. But don't dismiss the joy a golem doll can bring a person Anders.]

Well if you want to be boring. [And tasty. Maybe not such a bad option.] Is that how you really spend your nights? You want to watch you don't need bigger robes soon.

W-What? N-No! Why would I-- no, o-of course not!!

[She looks a little bit offended. Like, she gets it, humans have misconceptions about monsters, but like... eating small animals?? Do they think they just do that for fun?]

Monsters b-barely even eat physical things, let a-alone small animals. And especially n-not cats!

[Eight is way more than he's keeping! But hey, it's her choice. He's not holding a sword to her throat and making her take all those kittens.]

Riiight. That makes no sense at all. [Storytelling but not. Sure. OK. Whatever this game she's talking about is it sounds weird and he's not going to ask about it or what it has to do with his names and Ferelden history.]

Could too! [How old is he again?] It's a boring name! And if you want to confuse people you should name your cat Dog or Ser-Barks-a-Lot. So they think you're looking for a dog. [In case that one's not obvious. Because that would be funnier than a person. Shut up.]

It's overused for a reason. [That reason being lots of people are unoriginal but he's committed to taking a stand against the name Pete now.] You just have no taste.

[Folding his arms Alistair frowns down at her like he's honestly deeply bothered by her choice in names. Which are terrible but really. If she wants everyone to know that she has no taste that's not his problem. He tried to help and got laughed at. And is valiantly fighting back a smile but no, those are still terrible choices.]

[ Her choice, but he's the one whose shoved them at her and made her look at those tiny faces and get attached. She'll be taking them, but she's going to be blaming him for the number for a long time. ]

Never claimed that it made sense. [ Whatever, he can think what he wants. It's a nerd game anyway so it's not like she's going to take any offence, nor is she going to try to explain it further because... Well, she doesn't care enough, and she doesn't really know much more beyond that, anyway. ]

Could not! [ She wants to guess maybe 12. ] Really? I'd think everyone would be convinced I was looking for a giraffe with that name.

[ The words drip with sarcasm and she rolls her eyes because does he really think that needed explanation? Still, it's good-humoured. Also, a dog name is not as funny as a person name. ]

Pff, please. You're the one with no taste here. Next you're going to be telling me that I should name them Tabby, or White, or Orange instead of Pete.

[ Literally all the names that either of them have suggested have been either terrible or a mouthful. None of them are actually going to be used, but if the idea of naming one of her cats Pete horrifies him this much, it's fun to keep teasing. ]

If you could, that would be lovely.

[ she'll also troll the library for some books. ]

...It's so cute.

[Someone also has magic that could help. With a cat-summoning spell or something.]

Ha! [Grateful is that what they're calling it now? He'll remember to mock Anders the next time he's supposed to be being grateful then.] I'm holding you to that.

[The promise to pay his debt that is. He's pretty sure Anders owes him a lot by now. The help cat-wrangling, making him fall into icy water (definitely Anders' fault that one and not a result of Alistair's own actions), offering him a friendly ear after he ran afoul of Wonderland's propensity for bringing in strangers who recognise you. Basically, whenever he cashes in the offer it's going to be for something big.]

You say that but if I have to start rolling you about I'm going to make you practice with me.

[By chasing him about the gardens again doubtless. Although he could do with a sparring partner sometimes...

But they're getting some kind of work out now at least. The stairs are a little more challenging as they make their way down, still worried about dropping the basket. But at least none of their passengers have been able to jump out.]

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2016-05-31 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
[She's not the only person blaming him for their new addition - which is terribly unfair, given Anders started all of this and he's just trying to help a friend. But people in Wonderland can just be so unreasonable at times. And weird or at least come from worlds which don't always make sense, be it the people themselves or the things they do for entertainment.]

Could too! [Sounds about right, yeah.] I had to explain, you are weird enough to think Pete would be a good name. Maybe you wouldn't have gotten it on your own.

[And she was the one who thought hers needed explaining. When it's her joke that does as he has only faintest idea what a giraffe is, mostly that it's definitely not the sort of thing you keep as a pet.]

Maybe you could name this one Orange. [He pets a small black kitten.] That would be better than Pete. [At this point he wouldn't be surprised if one of the cats ends up with that name just to annoy him. Ah well. It's not actually that terrible a name. Just boring.]

Why don't I help you get them all to your room while you try and think of decent names?

[Yes he got her the box but there are eight of the kittens to be transported and he remembers how difficult it was to get them down here in the first place. The least he can do is offer to help transport them to their new home. Plus it will help ensure none escape and turn up later and need to be rehomed. Or get adopted by Anders. Who is not allowed to keep too many for himself for Alistair's sake.]
