[Action OTA]: アニメクラブに行こうよ！

Summary: It's the inaugural meeting of Wonderland's anime club, and it's being kicked off with a movie marathon! Come watch, chat among friends, and eat up.
The Story:

Those who venture up to the second floor tearooms will see a variety of signs, hand-drawn in colored pencil and pen, directing them to the first room in the line, where a big poster is taped to the door. It reads:

Wonderland Anime Club!
Please come in quietly and find someplace to sit!
Remember to keep it quiet for other viewers.
Refreshments are in the back!

Inside, the tables have been pushed against the wall, and the chairs arranged around them, with some limited theater-style seating in the middle; the rest of the room is full of pillows, blankets, and cushions, making a soft place to lie around and relax with a view. The middle of the room contains a projector set up on the table, projecting onto the far wall, and the lights are dimmed. All the films are subtitled, and the speakers on the side let the audio flow throughout the room. A refreshment table is in the back, filled with Japanese convenience store snacks, including various flavors of ramune, pocky, chocolate candies, and potato chips. There is also, helpfully, a list at the refreshment table of all the films being screened that day, and the times they're playing at, so people can properly identify them.

There's also a 'mailing list' left next to that where people can leave their names if they're interested in coming to weekly meetings, to watch new shows and discuss their favorites, among other things. Everything is also decorated with stickers of cats, dogs, and rabbits, along with a surprising amount of glitter for pizzazz.

Alphys | OTA, will match format!

[Alphys is there early, setting up and making sure everything's in tip-top working order. Once everything is set out, she grabs a pile of snacks and nests herself into the Pillow Pile near the front, planning to only get up to change the DVD. These are some of her favorites and she's damn well going to enjoy them. She'll be happy to discuss any of the movies, share her snack hoard, or even just watch together with anyone she knows. The more the merrier! She'll also be reacting to pretty much everything on screen- this means screaming, crying, and and yelling at the screen on more than one occasion, and will do her best to calm down if asked.

But it's anime people. You don't just not react big to that.]

[At least, the neurotics with degrees meet. Mikan timidly stands in the doorway, slowly getting the nerve to come inside. She's not in pajamas, but her usual nurse's uniform.]

Um... Al... Alphys? Is that you, Alphys...?

[Alphys hears her name and turns her head, squinting a bit until she spots Mikan, and waves her arm, encouraging her to come in and join.]

Y-Yes, it's me! Come on i-in!

[Kaneki came in near the end of the first movie, slipping in quietly. He's not wearing PJs, but his clothes are loose enough and casual enough to almost be the same thing.

During the brief period when one movie ends and the next begins, he approaches Alphys with an amused smile. He should at least greet her, but didn't want to interrupt her...um, absorption in the movie.]

You're really into it, aren't you, Alphys-chan?

[Alphys blushes a little bit- slightly from embarrassment and also because Kaneki is pretty cute- and offers a lopsided smile.]

W-Well, uh, these films are my favorites... and, uh, sometimes I get, uhm, a l-little excited about them. I mean, y-you know, I think it adds t-to the viewing experience, and... stuff.

[She's getting really, really distracted. Alphys can't function around people who are even remotely cute. She's dying.]

[Chara sort of feels it must be absurdly, incredibly obvious that they aren't invited to this. It's supposed to be fun. It's supposed to help people relax. Alphys hates them.

So, for most of the day, they let everyone else have their precious downtime. Consider that a mercy. It's evening when they show up, during the break between Kiki and Howl. They make their entrance not shy. Don't try to be soft and quiet about opening the door, don't try to be soft and quiet about closing it. Here they are! Audaciously daring to exist. Practically inviting the hilarity that will ensue. The uncomfortable looks, the stifling atmosphere of unwelcomeness, being asked to leave. It's going to be side-splitting, watching timid little Alphys try to work up the nerve to boot them out of her little shindig.]

Howdy, doctor! Haven't missed all the fun, have I?

[Undyne hears that voice and just. Turns. Around. And, with a dark look on her face, heads straight over to Chara before Alphys can be bothered.]

You haven't. Still two movies left. You're in luck.

[She says this with an incredibly dangerous tone. A "you're not ruining this for Alphys" tone.]

( Other than watching something Lydia doesn't know what to expect. It could be fun, or maybe she won't enjoy the viewing material, but maybe she'll get something from it - or a friend.

The pillow pile that Alphys is on looks incredibly comfortable, and given the amount of snacks near by the pillow pile is also a very tempting place to sit. And maybe this person can help her through them )

Can I sit here?

[Alphys is surprised that anyone she doesn't know actually wants to talk to her- she expects her friends to say hi, but people actually wanting to talk to her?? Interested in her past the anime?? That is absolutely baffling. So when someone actually tries to talk to her she immediately blushes a bit and tries to make a smile that doesn't look lopsided.]

Oh, uh, y-yeah, if you want! There's, uhm, p-plenty of room.

12:00 pm - 3:30 pm

The first thing Frisk did was sign their name on the mailing list. They've been waiting a long time for an opportunity like this, and Alphys has built up the cultural importance of anime enough for them to be sufficiently hyped for it. What's more, they have virtually nothing else to do for the entire day; setting aside the day for anime it is!

They spend the first two movies rapt and attentive, gradually adjusting to reading subtitles to understand the words.

3:30 pm - 6:45 pm

[Looks like the stress of the past few weeks have caught up to them. They've been contentedly munching on the snacks laid out for most of the first two movies in lieu of any actual dinner, and by the time The Cat Returns gets put on, Frisk has adopted a graceless, indecently boneless sprawl on a beanbag chair with a blanket pulled sloppily over them.

So the movie begins to the sound of a quiet, inelegant child's snore.]

6:45 pm - 10:45 pm

Frisk has thoroughly bundled themselves up with one of the blankets, very awake from here on out, thank you, bag of potato chips (not popato chisps in Wonderland, it seems) clasped tightly to their chest. They seem to have forgotten that a bag of chips is meant to be eaten, not simply clutched like a teddy bear, but they're so focused on the action on the screen that they just need something to hold onto, okay. Don't judge them.

during Howl's Moving Castle! (6:45 - 8:45)

Of all the spaghetti that Papyrus brought, he's only been able to tear himself away long enough to consume one or two plates at most. His towering frame is folded down low, hugging his legs close to his body and sitting hip to hip with his favorite little human, through two blankets of his own.

He looks sleepy. Sleep has been a surprisingly unabundant resource for him in the last week or so, and it may or may not show. But he's completely content to sit here with his friends and obsess over the strange history cartoons that Alphys picked.

For now, he's content. It's kind of difficult to sit still and relax. Sans makes it look easy.

It's amazing how much of Papyrus there is, with his great long bony limbs that seem almost unwieldy at times. And how, well, cuddly he can be despite being made of literal bones. The warmth of his hugs and happiness rival Toriel's, at times.

They've been half-leaning against him for the first part of the movie, but when the Witch of the Waste shows up and turns Sophie into an old lady, Frisk squeaks a little in terror, compressing the bag of chips closer to their chest until -

- it explodes open with a loud pop that causes them to yelp, even louder.

SPIRITED AWAY (slams fists on table)

Well, Chara wasn't turned away at the door, somehow. Despite everyone involved's better judgment. They've played nice, too; they spent the entirety of Howl's Moving Castle at the back of the room, haunting the snack table like the ghost they are. Not even eating, mind you. Just lurking in a vaguely malevolent manner.

For the first bit of Spirited Away, they continue to lurk. As the movie goes on, though, that starts to change. It catches their interest, and they maybe let themselves scoot a little closer.

By the time Chihiro signs the contract and loses her true name, they throw pretense to the wind. They drop themselves down at Frisk's side (the skeleton-free side) and maybe sort of... shove them a bit? Nudge them? Lean against their side? Truly, the gesture is up to literary interpretation.

"Scoot over."

U CAN SPIRIT ME AWAY ANYTIME

There's no way Alphys could've known the acute significance of true names and losing them, but Frisk is fascinated regardless. They can sympathize, perhaps to a gratuitous extent, and what's more is the world Chihiro ends up in...it's not so different from being in the Underground, is it?

"Enjoying the movie?" Frisk doesn't expect Chara to actually admit to getting invested, but they scoot regardless and pat the pillowed ground beside them with a huge grin.

Sans | OTA will match

[Sans shows up ten minutes into the first movie, because noon is early for him. This is basically as punctual as he can be. Also, getting to show up somewhere in his PJs? Sign him the fuck up. Papyrus can't even say a word about it because pretty much everyone will be there in there PJs. It's pretty much the whole point.]

[Sans's PJs consist of an oversized shirt that says "World's Best Grandma" and baggy sweatshorts. Shorts touch his feet okay :|]

[He ducks in silently and buries himself in a mound of pillows.]

[ Papyrus follows Sans in begrudgingly-- being late to anything isn't really in his code of ethics, but Sans had overslept and the small skeleton can truly sleep like the dead--

his face twists. He's spending too much time around Sans-- way too much. Which is okay, but at the same time...he's sure that if he hears another pun he might take his own arm off and throw it at Sans. While he tries to maintain a cool composure, of course. Puns aren't funny, they're just...

...okay, they're kind of funny. But that doesn't mean Papyrus has to like them.

The tall skeleton watches Sans delve into a fortress of pillows as if it were a part of him. A huff escapes him, along with an awkward smile. ]

SANS, WHERE ARE YOU GOING? CAN YOU EVEN SEE THE MOVIE? HOW WILL YOU KNOW WHEN TO GASP DRAMATICALLY OR LAUGH?!

[ it's okay, bro. Papyrus is always watchin' out. ]

[Kaneki is not dressed for sleep, but he's still in pretty comfortable clothes. He's actually later than Sans was, but comes in just as quietly.

He scans the room and notices Sans ensconced in the pillows. It doesn't seem like he's necessarily absorbed in the movies, so Kaneki goes over to him, crouching down beside the pillow mound Sans is occupying.]

You look comfortable. Can I join you for a little while?

Mikan Tsumiki | OTA | Will Match Style

[Being one of the few denizens of Wonderland who is actually from Japan, this feels a little nice... kinda of like a reminder of home. She's also used to sleeping in her nurse's uniform, so she just opts to keep it on.

But a social butterfly Mikan is not, so you'll see her in a corner, too nervous to bother people, and occasionally snacking. These movies are comforting in their own way, and she even mumbles/quietly sings - ]

To-to-ro, to-tooh-ro....To-to-ro, to-tooh-ro...

[Kaneki feels the same way Mikan does--he's not a huge anime fan, but it's still nice to be reminded of the more normal aspects of home.

He's checking out the food, looking to see mainly if there is any coffee. If not, he's going to slip out and get some before coming back. As he's looking, he notices Mikan and smiles a little before approaching her.]

Arya | OTA, prose or brackets

Arya lays on her front, hugging a pillow to her chest. In front of her is a large assortment of snacks - as many as she could get away with taking - and she's sprawled out with one hand propping up her head and a stick of pocky dangling from her mouth.

The films themselves leave a mixed impression on her. She enjoys the online battle parts of Summer Wars but doesn't really understand the concept of the internet, and the family reunion plot just makes her sad. The Ghibli movies, for the most part, are a little too gentle in their storylines for her, although she does find the animation itself impressive. She's about to decide anime's not really for her when Spirited Away comes on, and she finds herself completely hooked.

[ Someone said anime club and Soos is here to answer the siren call. This is pretty much his life's whole deal. Dark rooms, junk food, and iconic anime marathons. And sure, it's cool to power-watch a series alone in his room at 3 in the morning or whatever, but he's happy to admit that it's a lot more fun when there are other people around doing the same thing.

In the middle of the day, no less.

He's here to watch the heck out of these movies, dawg. And to make the heck out of some friends, presumably, since he's not exactly gonna be shy about talking to people.

It Begins
[What would an anime club be without the mansion's resident shounen hero? Especially considering she's kind of dating the host. Undyne gets there early to help set up, and once that's done she can be found hovering around the snack table. Soda is weird, so ramune's out of the question, but how about these little chocolate mushroom things? You can't go wrong with mushrooms, even if it's chocolate. She pops one into her mouth...

Oh my god. She's just going to hover around the snack table for a while now, thanks.]

Summer Wars
[Undyne is more of an action anime type of girl, but she can watch anything. She's cheering on King Kazma the whole way through, but when he's defeated, she's heartbroken. It's not until he rises again that she fully recovers, and she's back to hooting and hollering all the way through the ending.]

Spirited Away
[This movie... rings a little close to home, doesn't it? Undyne finds herself relating deeply to the various characters, especially Haku. When the movie ends, she's strangely quiet, but there's a small smile on her face.]

[Alphys has spent pretty much this entire marathon sprawled out near the front, cuddling when Undyne wants to cuddle and screaming and punching the air with her when the action is good and the stakes are high. But both of them are pretty quiet through Spirited Away. She picked this film-- and specifically put it last-- because she wanted everyone from home to see it. She uses these stories to make her feel better about her own life, and this one, this happy ending, feels like hers. Made her think for a long time that she might get an ending like that.

Maybe she has it now, she thinks, here with people she loves.

But as the credits begin to roll, Alphys looks up at Undyne, smiling.]

So, uhm... d-did you like it? Everything, I mean?

[ There is maybe nothing in this world more relatable or radical than a fishwoman with an eyepatch getting so hyped up over anime. Soos knows that feel. It's passion and emotional investment. LET'S GET HYPE. ]

Totally kicked, butt, right? You're not gonna find that kinda quality in any old anime!

( Anime. If someone would have told Lydia that she would be attending an anime viewing she wouldn't have believed them, maybe not a year ago at least. Though Lydia has never seen anime before she's got a little more of an open mind now than a year ago.

Honestly Lydia doesn't know what to expect, but she's been to some of the movie nights before without knowing the movie. Watching it with friends, even if the movie wasn't her favourite, was an enjoyable thing. Maybe here she'd make some new friends too )
