Who: Riley and OPEN. With a bonus plotted out thread.
Where: ~Around~.
When: Beginning of the event.
Rating: PGish? It won't get to be more than PG-14 at best probably, will update if it somehow goes over that!
Summary: Mutant shenanigans. And also the story of how three teenage mutants discovered a hurt human.
The Story:
ONE
[So! Riley likes spending her time outside. Anywhere she can sit and draw, she'll take it. That's why she's here and there and anywhere, doodling away in her sketchbook. All in all, it seems like a pretty normal scenario... up until a purple cat leaps out of the sketchbook and takes its place beside her. Sometimes, though, it takes off—and that causes her to pack up immediately and follow after it.]
Hey—Hey, wait up! I can't pet you or anything if you run off!
[And she's not actually watching where she's going, so it's entirely possible she could be crashing into you.]
TWO [Closed to Kanji, Sam, and Maya]
[Sometime after school, or whatever they happened to be doing at time, someone had the bright idea to go exploring in the industrial district. What could go wrong? Riley was mildly distressed about the idea of it, she wasn't the best with doing things they probably shouldn't be doing, she didn't want to get in trouble. She was really bad at lying, and if anyone asked her later she wouldn't really know what to say. But after some moments of consideration, she agreed. Sometimes you just have to live dangerously! Probably! Also Maya was there and so was Kanji and that was a good thing.
She peers around, squinting a bit as she takes in their surroundings.]
Soooooo. It definitely looks like a place that we probably shouldn't be.

[It's all self-explanatory as far as Maya's concerned. They do what they do because there are very few ways to stop them from doing it. It's totally normal.]
You're not scared, are you?
no subject
We'll be fine. If anyone does give us any trouble, we probably outnumber 'em.
[Not that he plans on letting either Maya or Riley throw any punches, if it comes to that.]
no subject
I guess you're right... And I'm not scared, Maya. I'm just. Nervous. There's a difference.
no subject
[For emphasis, she zooms out of sight, reappearing directly behind Riley, lips half an inch from her left ear.]
Boo.
no subject
[Kanji looks back at the pair of them over his shoulder, lifting one hand as a tiny jolt of lightning jumps between his fingertips, though there's a smile pulling at one side of his mouth. It's friendly teasing, anyway.]
C'mon, be nice.
no subject
Maya! It's not funny!
no subject
You're both entirely too serious. Lighten up a little, will you? It's not like we're going to run into a dead body or something out here.
no subject
[It would be dead, right? Mutants are one thing, zombies are another entirely. He'd like to think their home is zombie-free.]
no subject
[AKA WHAT IF ZOMBIES ARE REAL, WHAT IF THAT'S SOMEONE'S MUTATION OR SOMETHING, wow that'd suck for them if that were their mutation.]
no subject
[It would be really cool if there were zombies though. She's just not cruel enough to bring it up when Riley's already upset. She'll have to gush to Kanji about it when Riley settles down.]
no subject
[Oops?]
That'll make you forget all about that zombie movie. [And whatever may or may not jump out at them here. He pauses abruptly a moment later, frowning.] Wait a sec-- you guys hear that?
no subject
no subject
[Her head snaps in the direction Kanji's eyes shifted.]
No idea what it is but it's probably awesome.
Come on come on comeonlet'sgoalready.
[There might be some shoving a little bit.]
no subject
Sounded like-- I dunno, someone groaning?
no subject
Wait, what if it's actually a zombie?
no subject
There are people coming. Voices. A trickle of blood snakes down his face and he tries to catch his breath, but a cold sweat forms and does nothing for his composition. The gun in his hands is nearly out of ammo and he has no chance taking on a handful of mutants with just a knife.
This was stupid. We weren't ready.
He has to try. ]
no subject
[Maya struggles to reassure them as they round a corner, only to encounter what looks exactly like it might be a zombie. It's bleeding and moaning and shambling omg omg it's definitely shambling it's totally a zombie.
She exchanges a glance with Kanji, then promptly turns Riley around in a 360 degree motion.]
You know what? It's probably nothing and there's no reason to think it might be something so maybe you should just wait here for a minute okay??
no subject
[Kanji and Maya are on the same page with this one. Riley should stay decidedly behind them, and his eyebrows pull together as he frowns, squinting to get a better look. It's shambling and bleeding and sounds like a zombie, but--]
Hey, I think-- think it might be hurt.
[But he doesn't miss the gun, or the knife. Hurt or otherwise, he doesn't feel all that inspired to bolt forward just yet.]
no subject
... We should check on it. Um. My cat can go check!
[The gun and the knife aren't lost on her, and she's already pulling out her sketchbook—a few strokes here and there, and there's a purple cat leaping out of the pages of the book. She pats the cat on the head, kneeling so that she can talk to it:]
Can you go make sure it's okay? Please?
[The cat purrs, before prancing its way towards Sam. Have a purple cat sniffing you, dude.]
no subject
Uh-- [ It doesn't seem violent, but that doesn't mean that it isn't. Warily, he glances up past it to the distant figures who are eyeing him as cautiously as he is them. ]
Hey. [ Sam begins, unsure of what to say to him. At best, they'll just go away, and at worst, they'll try and kill him. Maybe succeed. He dabs at the sweat on his forehead with the back of his hand, still holding the pistol. ] Is... this your cat?
[ Cat-thing? ]
no subject
It sounds like it's talking. Kanji, can zombies talk?
[She inches further, staring wildly at the potential zombie. She speaks at an exaggerated pace, as if saying the words more slowly will help them be understood.]
Doooo yooou understaaaaaaaaand me?
no subject
[Kanji doesn't sound all that sure of himself as he looks Sam over from a safe distance, though he's crept along just enough to keep pace with Maya. Hell if he's going to be left hanging behind. He'll be a living shield if he has to be.]
I mean, mostly just 'oogh augh ugh,' right? This one-- he's talkin' just like us.
[As though he's never even seen a human before, which certainly isn't the case. He just doesn't-- take the time to talk to many, that's all.]
Think maybe he's just a guy.
no subject
He's just a guy... um. [And then, in a louder voice so that Sam can definitely understand her:] Yeah, it's just my cat! Don't worry about her, she's really, really nice!
no subject
I'm not- [ Again, Sam sways dangerously, then has no choice but to slip down against the wall, sitting with his eyes squeezed shut. There's a sort of a painful groan and he pinches the bridge of his nose. ] ... I think I need help.
[ To say the least. This might be the end. Dammit. If they really are mutants, there's no chance they'll give him aid of any kind. If he's lucky, they'll just leave him be. ]
no subject
[Oh he's bleeding. He's bleeding and he's hurt and how do you even deal with something like this.
Maya's solution is texting, apparently. She falls behind, busy with her phone.]
Guys, make sure it doesn't bite you, okay?
no subject
I don't think we gotta worry about that.
[Maybe weapons, if this human happens to be particularly anti-mutant, but biting seems a little too animal. He grimaces, holding a hand out the way you would to a strange dog before trying to approach, not wanting to make any sudden movements.]
H-hey. We can help you. Don't got any first aid stuff right here, but maybe we can help you get somewhere to get those injuries looked at? [He pauses, looking back over his shoulder.] Riley, can your cats get us some bandages or something? Gotta put pressure on this wound.
no subject
Um. Sure. [She kneels down to the cat that's there, patting it on the head.] Could you do me a favor? Could you get me some bandages? Something that could be used like that? [She's not sure how much the cat understood her, as it takes off, but she hopes. And she's pulling out her sketchbook again.]
I could draw something. It won't be as good as bandages, but it might help...
SORRY GUYS sob
You shouldn't be here. [ He mutters, though it's more true for himself than for them. With him human and them decidedly not. They have to know, right? Can't they tell? ] You don't have to...
[ Help. Though it's in contrast with his earlier request for aid.
It's difficult to think, let alone to form coherent thoughts. It'd be nice to just sit and close his eyes for a while, but-- no, can't do that. Stay awake. ]
NEVER APOLOGIZE YOU ARE LOVELY
[She mutters it mostly under her breath though, a few moments before looking away from her phone.]
Okay so Len says he can talk us through it but first he needs to know if it's from stabbing or guns. And I've never seen either but he says he'll be able to tell if we tell him where the bleeding's coming from?
[She pokes Kanji in the bicep. Time to put those guns to work, Muscles.]
You touch it.
no subject
[Unfortunately, Kanji's ability to conduct and manipulate electricity is going to do exactly squat here, unless the guy ends up needing his heart jumpstarted. Kanji startles a little as Maya prods at him, rubbing that spot on his arm before nodding and inching closer.]
Alright, alright-- hey, where are you hurt? Can I see? Gonna need a closer look if we're gonna fix you up.
[Ugh, he'll touch it if he has to.]
no subject
And while Kanji is inspecting the guy, she starts to build up a supply of purple bandage-y squares.]
Okay. Okay, I have a bunch. It should be okay enough until we can get someone better at this stuff to look at him?
feel free to time/place skip to get him to... somewhere else... if need be
I have to-- [ Ah, shit. Lights out. Sam's head touches the wall where he half-sits, collapsed, suffering from what may or may not be eventually revealed as a bit of a concussion. ]
Actually I changed the tag but not the subject line pretend I didn't say that thing about settings
[She's not freaked out by this shut up your FACE is freaked out by this.]
Okay. Okay. So. So he's bleeding right? So. So I don't know -- maybe it's under what it's wearing?
[She zips to Kanji's side, taking excessive photos to send to Len for advice.]
no subject
[Eloquence is never really Kanji's strong suit, especially not now.]
I can probably carry him if we gotta move him, at least, but-- dependin' on how bad he's hurt, that might not be a good idea.
[He grimaces, getting down on his knees so he can carefully pull Sam's jacket back to look for the site of the injury itself. He's much less hesitant to touch now that the human is unconscious.]
Here-- take a picture of this? Looks like he's cut deep; Len got anything to say about whether it's cool to move him or not?
no subject
It'd be better to get him somewhere safe. And warm. But that's only if we can...
[Maybe they can take him to her house? Her dad wouldn't argue, probably, but that's only if they can move him in the first place. And even then he'd probably be better off at a hospital or something.]
one
He-hey! [ The word is nothing more than a squeak as he winces.] If you slow down they won't run away!
