[OPEN] I can't help that I need it all
Who: Mettaton, a closed starter, and YOU!
Where: Anywhere in Genosha
When: Anytime from August 5th to the 9th
Rating: PG-13 to start! If this changes, I will adjust accordingly
Summary: Mettaton is a big celebrity, doing his best to spread happiness in these troubling times for both humans and mutants alike. While his actual stance on Humans vs. Mutants is a bit ambiguous, there have been rumors that he might be more involved than his vapid celebrity persona implies... (Brackets or prose, I'll match any format!)
The Story:
One, Open to Mutants (especially the anti-human variety):
It's the biggest party of the year, hosted by the highest members of Genosha society, and anyone who is anyone is invited to attend. So naturally superstar Mettaton is there, dressed in a crisp suit and sporting a crystal glass of wine. Ever the social butterfly, he's been fluttering from conversation to conversation, dazzling as he goes. It seems this time his eyes have alighted on you, and he's called out in your direction, darling~! It's kind of odd though, how you almost feel compelled to come talk to him.
Two, Open to anyone (especially any resistance types):
Mettaton isn't a sheltered flower with no idea that the state of humanity on this island isn't the best. Nor does he blanch at sometimes having to walk through the rougher parts of town. So when his usual go-between for getting information to the resistance is busy, and he's got some intel that needs to be moved, he's brave enough to make the trek himself out to their base. ...though he may have gotten a little lost along the way. Ok, correction: Very Lost. He can't help but wonder if he actually knew where it was located in the first place.
Three, Wild Card:
Want to tag into this but neither of the prompts work for you? That's fine! Slap down a starter and we can get the ball rolling! Here's Mettaton's plot post if you need some info on Mettaton's place in the world! Feel free to hit me up there to chat about any threads you want and/or opt out of his powers! Let's have some fun!

>:3!!!!
"That depends on if you understand the immensity of the word important when I use it. Do you know there's a certain glamour to it?"
Saying that will give him one of three options: a blank stare, upon which he'll walk away from this useless distraction. A surprised start of some kind, maybe leading to a few more pressing questions. Or a gun to the face. He'll have to take his chances with this, he supposes.
>:3c!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE MIGHTY NYA
Instead, she just lets out a small 'mmmm' before speaking again. "Guess there's a kind of flair, at least when you say it. Must be heading someplace fancy. Wouldn't want to put up any kind of resistance to you getting there."
Alright, so she's not as good with the puns. Cut her some slack.
THE MIGHTY NYA, WITH THE MIGHTY PAW
"Only the fanciest of places for those most important in society. They carry a large weight you know, those who are so high up. The weight of knowledge. Information that can change the whole tide of things."
Is there a secret handshake or something they should be doing now to solidify that they both Know? Or are they going to keep going around in circles?
TO STRIKE DOWN HIS ENEMIES
It's not... the smoothest way to explain things, but people are gonna question less if he comes in with her. At least, she can also field this if anything goes very, very wrong.
holy shit no, for drinking milk out of the bowl
He grins suddenly, his demeanor becoming welcoming and pleasant. "Well, if that's the case, then I'll be happy to follow you!"
He walks over to her, wrapping his arms around her arm, waiting for her direction. "So, what's your name, beautiful?"
Now that they are temporary allies, he can totally flirt, right? Riiiight.
NO!!!! FOR DEATH!!!
Oh. Oh lord, he's that big mutant celebrity. Jesus. Of course he is. What the fuck is he doing delivering this intel himself? Is he stupid? Or does he really believe that strongly in the cause?
She doesn't believe that for a second, so she just steers him down the street and tries to make polite conversation, seeing what he's going to give her as they go. "Call me Shepard. What about you?"
THE MIGHT NYA IS PUTTING HIS PAW DOWN
She probably doesn't know him yet, then. He'll change her tune.
He follows along with her, stepping in time easily despite his height potentially causing problems for them both.
"Marcus. It's quite a pleasure to be spending time with someone as lovely as yourself. Do you come by here often?"
Flirting AND fishing for information! A classic combo!
TO KILL HIS FOES AND ACHIEVE CONQUEST
"Do I hang around in alleys often? What kind of a question is that?" She chuckles, not trying to mock him but still ribbing. "No, not at all. I was just passing through, and saw you running in circles, so I stopped to see. It was pretty entertaining."
Okay, maybe it's mocking. So sue her. "I'd ask if you came here often, but I guess not, seeing as I'm giving you directions."
NO!!! STOP THAT!!!
"I'm glad I could give you a good time. Someone like you certainly deserves one."
Quietly he looks around, taking in the surroundings around him and making note of the buildings they pass. If he ever ends up in this situation again, he will not be caught with his pants down so to speak.
Shepard doesn't seem charmed with him, and while on a personal level he is slightly offended, on a business level, it's fine. If she thinks he's some airheaded celebrity with no idea of what he's doing, all the better to pull the rug out from under her when the going gets tough.
"No, alas, I don't venture out here all that often, but tonight must have been fate to draw me to you." Ok, so that line is super cheesy, but he is thanking his lucky stars that he ran into someone who can help him.
YOU CAN'T STOP ME!!!!
"Well, I guess one of us is lucky, then." She hopes the sarcasm gets across properly, because honestly all she knows how to do is comfortably tease people. What's affection nobody gets affection shut up. Anyway.
"Either or. Glad I could help. Wouldn't have wanted to just leave you out there in possible danger. Especially if you're really as... well, glamorous as you seem."
I'M INVOKING THE GENEVA CONVENTION
"Forgive me for taking all of your luck then! I'll have to figure out a way to give it back to you somehow."
They're walking along and it's really starting to sink in that he wasted so much time being lost. God, he should have tried contacting someone, but there was no time! Getting the information in the first place had involved a lot more action than he'd liked, and then the desperate call to a contact of his to do some quick favors to protect his cousin had eaten up so much more of it, there was just... nothing else he could do.
"Glamorous and on a bit of a... time-sensitive schedule. Could you tell me what time it is?"
He knows it's not past the window, but he doesn't know how close it is to this information becoming useless.
THIS ISN'T COVERED BY THE GENEVA CONVENTION
She can tell, though, that he seems nervous, especially asking about the time, but she checks her watch quickly. "4:32. Seems like you're in a hurry." What the hell is he carrying, anyway? Then again, if he's a big celebrity, he could have connections- and dirt- on a lot of people she's certainly not paying attention to. Damn, when did this become her job? She never dealt with espionage like this. Escort missions were annoying and just didn't suit her very well.
I'M GONNA CHANGE THE GENEVA CONVENTION RIGHT NOW
"A bit of a hurry, yes. There's an appointment of mine that I don't intend to miss. One that could help you too!"
The database is going under some re-hauls, getting rid of some alarming back-doors that could allow anyone to get in and take information. In this state, it is at its most vulnerable, and the opportunities this data would offer the resistance could turn the tide of the war. It could truly, once and for all, ensure Napstablook's safety.
"How close are we?"
The pretense is dropping from his voice though he looks quickly to the side of them, warily watching anyone walking by. He shifts his coat higher, further obscuring his face.
YOU CAN'T DO THAT
"Closer than we were. Is your appointment that important? Or, really, are you edging that close? Might have to pull some measures if you're that married to it."
God she's bad at this side-talking thing. How is he so good at it?
FUKGIN WWATCH ME SRUB
He doubts there is anything a simple human could do that could get them to the base in time, but he asks all the same. If only he had super speed or something. His voice and skin usually get him through anything, but that just makes running into situations where they don't help him all the more frustrating.
1V1 ME IN A DITCH
"Go straight down this street. Take a right in two blocks, and stop when you see me again." Hopefully, she won't have to explain what she actually means by 'see', considering what she's about to pull. "And keep this quiet."
She reaches into her pocket for the remote to the device on her back, and lifts her other hand into the air. Snaps her fingers concurrently with pressing a button. And just like that, she's gone, sprinting down the street to open the back door of the nearest hideout. She shouldn't trust him, but she got as far as she has in this operation- and her life- by trusting her gut.
OK!!! I'M GONNA FIGHT YOU WITH KISSES
He follows her instructions, speed-walking along the way and keeping an eye out for anyone following him. He doesn't think he's been followed, but it's still something he worries about.
When he sees her again he dutifully stops and waits for her next instruction. Though he can't help a quip at her.
"You have a flair for the dramatic."
omg that's not how this WORKS
"Yeah, well, when we're dealing with someone like you, I figure you'd benefit from a little extra, well, glamour." Now that she's getting the hang of dealing with him, it's making it easier to make jokes. "C'mon. VIP entrance." She knocks her knuckles twice on the door and it opens, gesturing him to go through.
"Metal celebrities first."
*already putting on lip gloss* what was that?
"I don't have much time. The information I am carrying with me will go down in 15 minutes. Ghost was unavailable to field this to you all."
His voice takes on a tinge of his Persuasion to further emphasize his point. He pulls the USB out of his pocket and holds it out.
"This holds the usernames and passwords into the Genosha Security Database. Every high-class mutant on this island has a profile with important information inside and it is currently being overhauled. This means that the usual tracking on its algorithm to register who and where someone is accessing it is down."
He doesn't care that now more people in the Resistance who don't have the clearance know who he is. This information needs to be accessed now.
"If there is anyone here who knows tech, now would be the time to step forward."
you dingus, also, makes shit up for this tag
"Well, then, you're really lucky, and I also wish you'd have told me that when we met. I was Ghost's rendezvous. Gimme that."
She takes the USB from his hand, walks further into the base, gestures him to come with. It's not that she doesn't trust him, but she needs to keep an eye on him while he's here, and if he knows about Ghost, he knows enough. She drops into one of the work stations, plugs the USB in, and skims the information.
"Kinda surprised your friend didn't give you more detailed directions if this intel was that necessary." She quips to him as she scans over what they've got.
DID YOU MEAN: Me, this entire thread????
"Their rendezvous? Forgive me, but they never mentioned you. I would remember if they spoke of striking young human helping them deal information. I would have told you this information earlier had I known."
She plugs the USB in and he can feel the stress leeching out of his shoulders. He's done everything he can. It's out of his hands now.
"If you're asking that, then you don't know their current situation."
The current situation being assassins breaking into their house and attempting to kill them. The only reason they are alive is because of Mettaton's machinations in hiring them a body guard and using some... less than ethical methods in securing their papers on the island.
BOTH OF US NOW LMAO
"No, I don't, because I was here doing my job." It's not like she had a full contact with them as it was. That's communication's job. She's a field agent. "They wouldn't have known me directly, anyway. Don't worry about it."
She quickly transfers the intel, blasting it out through their network- there's plenty of code-crackers and hackers that can take this faster and log the information properly. So once it's sent, she pulls the USB back out, turns around, and drops it into his hands.
"And information received. Not gonna lie, I'm a little surprised you put yourself on the line like this. Not every day you see a mutant like yourself. It's pretty hard not to recognize you."
THE TRIED AND TRUE METHOD OF ALL RP, TBH
"Someone down the line didn't do their job, and I had to pick up the pieces. It almost cost us this."
He looks at the now useless USB in his hands, smiling gently now.
"But, thanks to you, not all was lost."
He raises his eyes to look at Shepard, continuing his smile.
"Well, I have someone important to fight for. And I know what I stand for. So it was a risk I was willing to take."
Now there was a definite chance for things to change. For his cousin to finally, truly, be safe.
YAAA
"I'd say thanks to you, too." She stands to show him out. "Try not to get too lost getting out of here. We don't want this place discovered. I'm sure I'm already gonna take some heat after getting you in here." Which she doesn't give a huge shit about, because it was worth it, and that will probably work on her supervisors, too.
"Good luck. On this and otherwise."
no subject
He walks with her as she escorts him. Idly he wishes that he could spend more time and chat with her. She really is beautiful.
"A strong woman such as yourself can surely handle the ire of your higher ups. But I extend that good luck you gave me to you, all the same."
He stands at the door, his hand on the doorknob. "I hope our paths cross again, Shepard. And for good reasons."
He gives her one final smile, and then steps out into the warm Genosha air.
