and it's harder than you think [OPEN]

Who: Steve Rogers and YOU
Where: All around the island of Genosha
When: Throughout the event (08/05 - 08/09)
Rating: Mainly PG-13, possible R for violence
Summary: Steve is a Human outraged by the way that his kind are treated, and he isn't going to stay quiet about it... even if he is under 100 pounds and asthmatic. Responses will come from [personal profile] preserum.
The Story:
Tensions are rising and Steve is as ready as he can be.

He's already come to terms with the fact that he's hardly a key player in the Human Resistance Movement, but that won't stop him from contributing however he can. Some of his fellow resistance members don't hesitate to take him along when they plan an attack, while others are more insistent on him remaining back at their hideout to serve as support. Steve does what he can to make it into the action whenever possible — and well, if a mutant happens to get in his face while he's going about his life on Genosha, he isn't about to let them get away with it. He won't take their abuse, or curl into himself like a scared animal and whimper until he's left alone. He's going to give them a piece of mind, consequences be damned.

It's not like he hasn't paid for his boldness a number of times already. He's got some nasty scarring on his abdomen from burn wounds from a pyrokinetic — that would be the worst example, but he has plenty of other scrapes, bruises, and scars littered across his body like a map of all his bad decisions.

Whether Steve's back at the hideout checking in with other members of the resistance (which is also where he usually sleeps these days), or out on an assignment with them, or simply wandering around the island minding his own business, he won't make a secret of the issues he has with the way Humans are treated. With the Queen's remarks about them, he's more fired up than ever, and someone should either take advantage of his unruly temper or try to talk some sense into him.

He's got plenty of friends — supporters in his fight, people who are just as ready to fight for their rights. But he's also made plenty of enemies, and all it takes is one careless statement about Humans to get him seeing red.

[ OOC: I will respond to prose or brackets! Feel free to find Steve at the resistance hideout or wandering around the island making trouble. ]

[ Caitlin finds something admirable in the way he refuses to back down. Admirable, in the same way she'd admire a well-trained animal, like a dog walking on its hind legs. It's a cute trick, but not much more than that. And while he won't move back into the corner, he knows and she knows that he isn't getting away yet.

At his statement, she lets out a snort of a laugh.
] Humans in general aren't bad. Weaker, slower. Less intelligent. Flawed, oh yes. But bad? [ She grins broadly, a threatening, toothy thing. ] No.

[ Her hand lifts with the intent to bruise his cheek where a bruise is darkening. That is, if he doesn't bat her away immediately. (She fully expects him to, but she can't help push.) ] Now, a few bad apples can spoil the bunch. That's why Her Majesty has to be so judicious clearing away the rotten ones.

[ It's not like Steve can argue against the point that humans are weaker, at least in a physical sense. There's no way that most of them can stand up to what a mutant is capable of, although that also depends on what power they have. Some are more violent than others.

Less intelligent and flawed, though? Steve doesn't think so. He doesn't care what genetics have to say about the issue, he's met both humans and mutants and the main difference between them is how they're viewed by society. One isn't inherently better than the other.

Getting through to Caitlin will be impossible, though, and so he doesn't waste his breath voicing all of that. Instead he ducks out of the way of her hand, anger flashing in his eyes. ]
And what, you think I'm one of the rotten ones? [ Of course a mutant would see it that way. Steve always steps out of line and makes trouble instead of just letting people walk all over him. It's no surprise that he's made it onto people's lists. ]

[ Caitlin gives an amused hum as he moves away from her outstretched fingers. Piss and vinegar to the last drop, that's Steve Rogers. She doesn't draw her hand back, but she doesn't move towards his face again either. Something flickers in her eyes, a renewed light of interest in him. ]

Well, you are a troublesome one. Just begging to be picked and tossed aside like so much fleshy refuse. But...

[ Her voice lilts as if she's about to make him the offer of a lifetime. An offer that he just can't refuse. ] With the right polish, you could really be something. And I know just the thing. [ She bites her lip, her gaze trained steadily on him. ] You could be happy. Like Fitz.

[ The offer of a lifetime? More like one huge joke, except that it isn't funny at all. Steve doesn't know that much about what's going on between Caitlin and Fitz; all he knows is that Fitz stopped hanging around with him and the other resistance members after getting involved with her.

He wants nothing to do with her, he thought he'd made that perfectly clear. Not to mention that Steve doesn't believe that Fitz is truly happy for one second. Manipulated and brainwashed, sure. But happy? No.

There isn't space for humans to be happy here on Genosha. ]

What, you want to take me under your wing or something? Yeah, no thanks.

[ Steve rolls his eyes and makes yet another attempt to walk away from the conversation. ]
