Anger | Open

Who: Agent Washington and You!
Where: Genosha
When: Duration of the event.
Rating: PG-13
Summary: It isn't that Wash hates humans, it's just that he's seen the way they treat people who are different
The Story:

Growing up in Genosha hadn't exactly been easy, not when his mutation manifested itself in the entire school's power supply shorting itself out at the moment he'd smashed that bully's face into a bathroom mirror, but it sure as hell beat trying to grow up anywhere else. Leaving home to escape a family that didn't get him would have been a hell of a lot more difficult if he'd lived anywhere else, where there weren't laws in place to help mutant children of normals escape those situations.

He didn't hate his family. It's not their fault that they were incapable of understanding.

He'd ended up in the military. Too useful with his powers not to when there were so many operations that benefitted from communications being shut down and electricity going haywire. Things had been good. He'd had a family. Until the damn humans started getting pissy, couldn't stand that there was one place in the world where they weren't on top. And it was too similar to things he'd seen in other places.

When the offer to join the task-force had come, it had been a no-brainer. He wanted to protect Genosha. He couldn't do that if people inside it were trying to destabilise things.

He's often out walking the streets, visiting his favourite coffee shop, or training in the garrison. Waiting for missions to come in, or for trouble to start. It always did eventually.

It's a dangerous part of the city, but that's never bothered Carolina. Besides, it's not like any other part of the city feels all that safe for Humans these days, anyway. She's here in an effort to put a stop to that, to help put an end to this ridiculous thought that Mutants are superior to Humans just because they have these special powers. She'd fought alongside Mutants in the past, and she'd been more talented and better than a good handful of them--but no, as soon as Humans began to be looked down upon more and more, she'd been respected less and less until she'd lost her job, wasn't allowed to be part of the military anymore.

All said and done, she's pretty damn bitter about it. The moment she'd heard word of the Human Resistance Movement forming, she'd joined up and started fighting against the Anti-Human task force, and hell, any Mutant who dared say that Humans were lesser.

As of right now, she's on a mission for the rebels. Just a quick intel gathering mission, only one person needed, a step in the direction of sabotaging what parts of the Anti-Human Task Force that they can. Hopping a fence with ease, Carolina is officially in a restricted area, but it's not so highly guarded. Should have no trouble getting some intel and then getting back out.

Taking to creeping along near-silently, she ducks behind walls, making her way slowly and carefully. It's a surprisingly long while before she hears anyone nearby, which has her pausing at a corner and drawing her pistol. A pause, and she listens. Footsteps, headed her way. Sounds like a regular patrol of the area, and only one person. Easy.

Waiting for the right moment, Carolina remains hidden just until the figure starts to pass, at which point she steps out, gun aimed at their head. She has no intention to kill anyone if she doesn't have to, so it all depends on whether the person complies or not. Her mouth opens to give the usual spiel to get him to drop his weapons, but she finds the words stuck in her throat as she gets a better look at the face and realizes that she recognizes it.

"--Wash?"

For whatever it's worth, he looks about as shocked to see her as she feels to see him. Maybe it shouldn't be that much of a surprise to run into him here. She still remembers the way he'd started acting and talking toward the end of their time working together, the more disdainful feelings he'd had towards Humans that had only seemed to grow worse. If he's working with the Anti-Human Task Force, it shouldn't be much of a shock.

But it is. Honestly, Carolina's assumed he's had more sense than that, even after she'd lost touch with him.

There's a moment of hesitation, but she lowers the pistol. They may not be part of a team anymore, but it still doesn't feel right to have a weapon aimed at him. Drawing a steadying breath, she straightens her stance and looks Wash over, green eyes sharp. Her guard doesn't drop--she can't let it, not while she's in what's considered enemy territory, and not while she can't be sure she can even trust him.

"What are you doing here?" She throws the question right back, silently hoping that her guess is wrong. That he's not here for the reasons she thinks he is. Even if she knows damn well that's too optimistic an outlook to be taking.

"Working." Well, shit. Whether she means for it to or not, her temper starts to flare. That means he is part of the task force, doesn't it? That he really is completely anti-human, still believes that they're worth less than mutants, so much so now that he wants to help work toward getting rid of them here?

"You're working here?" Despite her best efforts, Carolina's voice raises slightly. Honestly, she feels... hurt. They'd been friends once! They'd worked together so well. And now... "You're part of the task force? Are you serious?"

"You could be just as useful somewhere else," she tells him, the grip on her pistol tightening. What she says isn't a lie, either. Wash could be plenty useful in other places, in other jobs, and really, what's it worth being useful to people who are so hateful toward those who are different from them?

"Somewhere that isn't trying to get rid of every single human on the island."

"Take control?" She repeats incredulously, finding that almost laughable. God, these damn mutants are so goddamn deluded, it's ridiculous. Carolina huffs a breath, something between a scoff and a disbelieving laugh. "We're not trying to take control of anything! We just don't want to be treated like second-class citizens!"

But would a mutant understand that? No, of course not. They have their powers, and they believe those make them superior. Funny, because Carolina recalls defeating handfuls of mutants on her own throughout her life, but no, because she's a human, she's still lesser. Still not as good.

"We're sick of mutants treating us unfairly. We want equality, not control!"

"It's not like that!" Carolina hisses right back. Yes, she's seen how mutants are treated everywhere else, that doesn't mean she approves of it! That's not what she's fighting for, and she knows that most of the other humans are right there with her. Sure, there may be some for it, but there are always people like that. On both sides.

"We don't want that kind of 'equality'. If we weren't okay with the powers mutants have, we wouldn't still be here!" That's never been the problem for her. At most, she's been jealous of their powers, but not so much so that she'd want them to not be allowed to use them. Jesus Christ. "Besides, do you think it makes any of you much better for treating us the way you are? It makes you just as bad as the humans in the rest of the world."

"You think treating people like equals is a sign of weakness?" She can't help the humourless, incredulous laugh that escapes her. Jesus Christ, he'd been bad about this stuff in the past, but they've really gotten to him with all their idiotic thoughts, haven't they?

"No, Wash. It isn't. And as disgusting as the way humans treat mutants elsewhere is, what's happening here isn't any better." Carolina shakes her head. "Should have known you still wouldn't see it that way, though. None of you do." Re-holstering her gun, deciding that standing here and arguing is going to go nowhere and is just wasting time, she makes to brush past him. "I have business to attend to. I'd say it was good to see you again, but all you've done is remind me why we stopped talking in the first place."

His words make her seethe. Can't handle not being catered to? This is about being treated like pests, about being considered a lesser being purely for having no special powers. Genosha is the home of the humans who live here just as much as it is to the mutants, and they shouldn't be driven out because of what the rest of the world is like.

Regardless, Carolina pretends to ignore what Wash says with intent to complete her mission. Until he says he can't just let her go, at which point she pauses to stare him down.

"Then stop me," she challenges, stance quickly becoming something more aggressive, practically daring him to even try. Wash might be a mutant, but that's never stopped her from beating him in a sparring match. If he wants to pick a fight, then she welcomes him to bring it. "If you think you can."

Fortunately for Carolina, she has no intention of making a quick escape at this moment. She's not going anywhere until she gets what she came here for, so Wash electrifying the fence doesn't bother her much. If anything, she takes it as his attempt at intimidating her. It's not successful.

"You think I care about your team?" She shoots right back at him, green eyes sharp and glaring. In all honesty, she might not be able to hand a full team of mutants--it depends on their powers--but she's not about to show any sign of uncertainty. "By the time they get here, I could have you on the ground and be gone. Easier for both of us if you just let me by, Wash, but if you really think that humans are the scum of the earth then please, call your team. I'll show you that you're no better than us."
