Who: Albus Severus Potter and You
Where: Seventh Floor, The Library, The Gardens
When: 8/10
Rating: PG
Summary: Albus wakes up to find he's no longer at Hogwarts. After the month he's had, this is not a good sign.
The Story:
Seventh Floor - Morning
Albus knew something was wrong the minute he woke up in a quiet room.
The Slytherin dorms were busy in the morning. Albus was normally the last up which meant that his best mate Scorpius was usually shaking him awake. The sounds of "Where is my tie?" and "Stop jinxing my socks to tap dance!" were missing when he opened his eyes to stare up at an unfamiliar white ceiling. It took a few long beats before the sleepy haze drifted from his mind and all the pieces snapped into place. He sat up, his eyes wide and hair sticking every which way. Instinctively, he reached out to the bedside table, feeling for his wand. The swift beating of his heart eased somewhat when his palm connected with his wand. Still, that didn't change the fact that this wasn't his dorm.
His bare feet hit the cool wooden floor as he walked cautiously over the door. He tested the knob and felt the latch turn. Albus opened the door and peered out into a long hallway. Mirrors hung in steady intervals between lamps and door frames. Too many thoughts spun around Albus' head. He quickly shut the door, leaning against it while breathing hard. He was dreaming. It was the only explanation that made any sense. He squeezed his eyes shut, willing himself to wake up.
Slowly, he opened his eyes again. The room was the same as before - a bed, a desk, a dresser, the door to a closet, and a mirror that gave him a very odd feeling. Maybe he'd fallen asleep in the Room of Requirement. It didn't make sense, but at least the Room was still in Hogwarts. To suggest that he'd somehow been transported to another place while on Hogwarts grounds was mad! Yet, opening the door only further proved the reality of his situation.
Holding his wand, and wearing only a pair of flannel pajama pants and a faded Chudley Canons t-shirt, Albus entered into the hallway. There was a window at the end of the hall. He could use it to see where he was in regards to the outside world. He crept down the hall, eyeing the many doors, before he reached the window and looked outside.
"Dumbledore's beard," he said, his mouth dropping. "Where am I?"
The Library - Afternoon
Wonderland. He couldn't believe it. He didn't want to believe it. There was only one place he could think to go that might have answers. After a few wrong turns he found his way to the Library.
Scorpius would have been proud to find Albus elbow deep in books. Usually, Scorpius was the one who piled them in front of Albus, describing the contents of each leather bound tome as though he had every page memorized. The thought made him smile sadly. If there was one place Albus had expected to find his best mate it was in the Library. No such luck. That didn't stop him from lifting his head each time the door opened in the hope that somehow Scorpius had appeared.
Albus had pulled down every book he could discover about time. His working theory was that his arrival in Wonderland was a result of using the Time-Turners. Perhaps he and Scorpius had somehow changed the future enough to send Albus spinning off into an alternate timeline. It wasn't to far-fetched, all things considered. Still, searching this particular library was a trial. There were books written in languages he'd never seen before and the organization system would have made his Aunt Hermione's head spin. After a few hours, Albus was ready to give up. If the answer was in the library, he couldn't find it. That didn't mean he was going to stop looking.
The Gardens - Evening
Albus needed time to himself. The Mansion had begun to feel restrictive and his room wasn't even close to feeling like home. After a long day, he walked out to the gardens and sat on a bench nearest to the fountain. He leaned his head back to look up at the stars. At least they were the same here. Seeing them made him feel incredibly homesick for the first time in his life. Did anyone know he was missing? Others had explained that time virtually stopped from the moment he arrived in Wonderland. For as experienced with time-travel as Albus was, he could barely wrap his head around the concept. If time didn't stop then Scorpius would have alerted everyone to his disappearance. His Mum would be heartbroken. His Dad...
Albus shivered, pulling his knees up to his chest. After everything they'd been through, Albus' disappearance would be like a slap in the face. The last thing Albus wanted was to ruin the tentative peace between himself and his Dad. He sincerely hoped that time stopped at home. The consequences of a fourth disappearance were ones he didn't want to comprehend.
"I miss them," he said softly. "Why did I have to come here?"

"I miss them," he said softly. "Why did I have to come here?"

"Sorry," he says. "That is, I'm sorry if you didn't mean me. But I'm also sorry about you being lonely. You wanna talk about it?"
no subject
"No, I'm okay," he said. "I didn't think anyone around. Usually, people ignore me."
He winced a little, wishing he could take that last bit back. This was a new place. The last thing he wanted was to spread the rumor that he was a loser back in his own world. He took a deep breath to settle his rattling thoughts.
"It's my first day," he confessed. "I think everyone has that feeling of loneliness when they first show up. I'm just thinking about home - my best mate, my parents. My mum is probably worried about me, that's all."
no subject
"You're right. It's normal to feel a little bit lost when you show up here. But that doesn't mean it's nothing, not to you and not to anyone else."
no subject
"You wouldn't happen to know a way back, would you?" Albus asked, anticipating the answer before York replied. "Or some way to send a message?"
no subject
no subject
That was impossible. From what Albus had gathered not everyone here knew about Hogwarts or even magic. The man could be a muggle and muggles can't change time.
Or could they?
"What did you lose?" he asked. "My best mate and I lost something important once. Well, it was stolen and then destroyed. But, there was another. Maybe... whatever you lost wasn't the only one."

He focused on the one bit of York's explanation that he did understand. Stealing, no matter the world or universe, was always wrong. Unless there was a reason for it, of course.
"What are you going to do about it? The stealing, I mean. You don't sound too happy about it."

The whole exchange leaves him feeling kind of rotten about Delta's disappearance all over again, though, and after a glance at the kid next to him he stands, lowering his foot from the bench, and sits with a sigh. "Anyway, I don't mean to make this about me."
no subject
Albus moved over on the bench giving York room to sit. Thinking of Scorpius made him feel even more homesick than before. "I'm sorry your friend is missing. There isn't much anyone can do about it which is difficult to accept."
He took a deep breath and offered the man his hand. "I don't think I introduced myself. I'm Albus."

He left out the part where he nearly destroyed the world and brought Voldemort back. That wasn't something Albus was ready to talk about just yet. Arriving in Wonderland had him worried that another Time-Turner was around. Perhaps someone else was using it to re-write history.
"This is going to sound like a strange question, but, do muggles have a device that can change time?"
sorry about the delay! i hope we can continue this, I like their dynamic
Library
But it was just an event, right? Obviously she won't have the power now, not anymore, not after the event, not after everything that happened in Oregon... Still, the fear of it drives her to the library, where she tries to find the usual books she would read on time travel to try and understand it better.
...Most of them are gone from the shelves. Someone's been looking up the same topic... Maybe Frisk or Chara. Or Sans. People she generally wants to avoid. But she goes around the library, trying to find whoever took all the books.
She spots Albus at a desk, and notices several of the books next to him. She stares at him dumbly for a little while, wondering who he is and why she never noticed him before.
Re: Library
"Um, hello," he said, clearing his throat. Best to make a good impression, he thought. "Were you looking for something? I'm new but I could help you find a book if you wanted. The selves are labelled rather strangely, but I think I could point you in the right direction."
no subject
"Why are you reading all these?" she asked, gesturing at the books. "They kind of have a... theme."
no subject
"Do they?" he said, over acting a touch. "I didn't notice. I just grabbed the first few that looked interesting."
He smiled and offered her his hand, hoping to change the topic. "I'm Albus, by the way. Nice to meet you."
no subject
She looked from the closed books to his hand and raised her eyebrows. "Dr. Who? Seriously?" She took his hand anyway in a very brief handshake.
She wasn't, however, about to let go of the topic. "That's fiction," she commented, pointing at the Dr. Who book, before pointing at one of the physics books, "and that one's non-fiction."
In other words, he walked at least several shelves away to get from one book to the other- so he did not grab the first few he saw.
no subject
Now she was just being insulting. Did it really matter what it was he was reading? Who was she to be so nosey, anyway?
"Perhaps I like reading about the subject," Albus said, frowning. "Is that so peculiar? Or is it normal for people in Wonderland to give the new kids the third degree?"
His defenses were up which meant that he'd say anything that popped into his head that would chase the other person away.
no subject
Nothing else to say as a follow up came to mind- so instead she tried to shift gear and get on a different topic. For now. "...How new is new?"
no subject
no subject
Even if it's not a conversation she would want to have.
She took a breath to calm herself down first, before speaking. "Okay, so why the immediate interest?" she asked, her voice gentler and less demanding than before, though the undercurrent of urgency was still there.
no subject
Albus narrowed his eyes at her, trying to figure out how much he should explain. "Because," he said, dropping his voice so that only Max could hear. "I think the entire reason Wonderland exists is because of something I did. I know it sounds mad but... it isn't the first time I've found myself someplace new."
no subject
"New like... it's not even supposed to exist, new?" Prior experience helped her keep up with his train of though at least, though she didn't like where it was going. Even so, it seemed like a far-fetched idea. "And you're trying to figure out how to undo it?"
no subject
Albus sighed, the loss of his friend weighing heavy on his shoulders. "It's not the first time one off us has been in a place without the other."
He doesn't finish his thoughts, doesn't say what's really troubling. Scorpius woke up in a world without Albus and it was terrible. What was a world without Scorpius like? Albus didn't want to consider it.
no subject
"I'm sorry about your friend... My best friend Chloe is here, too, and... I don't really believe the whole making-Wonderland thing, but if it's true, and you erase Wonderland?" She paused meaningfully, because that's exactly what he was planning to do. "You erase her, too."
Even though his theory seemed too far-fetched to be real (well the whole of Wonderland is far-fetched, really) she will not let that happen. She won't even let him try.
After that's settled, then she can start being nice.
no subject
"No, that's not..." he stammered. "I mean, I wouldn't be erasing her or you or... anyone. We'd all just go back to where we were meant to be."
Albus wasn't going to be left to choose between this girl's best friend and Scorpius. He knew who he would pick in the end because getting Scorpius back was always the right choice, no matter what.
"You're just going to have to trust me," Albus said. "The world shouldn't be this way. If I could just find another time-turner, I could go back and put things right. That way you and your friend don't have to be here. You could be where you belong."
no subject
The words time-turner echoed in her brain. She gave him a long, steady stare, heavy with meaning. "Don't mess with time. Don't even try," she warned.
no subject
"It's too late," he said softly. "I was stupid before. I thought I could change things, bring someone back who was supposed to be dead. Make a difference. But it doesn't work that way."
He looked back up at her, trying to convey his hurt and sympathy. "I'm sorry," he apologized. "If it's any consolation I don't think I'll be able to do much here. The only other Time-Turner left is in the hands of the Ministry. If I know my Aunt, she's either destroyed it or buried it so deep that no one can find it. So, at least, there's that."
no subject
And she knew all too well what happens when you screw around trying to stop someone from dying. She knew how time gets the best of you, finding countless other ways to bring about the ending you're supposed to have. How it tricks you into living the life you were avoiding all that time.
Again she shook her head. He didn't know about the vendors- whatever that time-turner thing is, he could definitely get one from them. "Even if you had one- I don't think anything outside of Wonderland actually affects it. Even time."
Another friend, Alex, went away for four years and came back a week after he left. Wonderland had its own way of dealing with time.
"So I doubt you had anything to do with it. Even if you did... it won't let you just... change everything. There are other people here-" She stopped abruptly. Chara would be mad, if she told him about Chara and Frisk's resets, and how they didn't work...
"People that have tried the whole time thing here. It doesn't work. They can't leave Wonderland, and they can't change it."
So don't even try, she thinks. Don't even try, because if you do and it does work... Then fuck you.
no subject
"I don't even know what to look for," he said, shrugging his shoulders. "So you can stop lecturing me. Honestly, all I was doing was reading a few books. Besides, you should know that I'm shite at magic. My charms only work half of the time and the last thing I transfigured was a leaky cup with holes. I'm a screw up, so, there's no need for you to worry about me erasing the world."
no subject
Concentrate on something else- magic. He said magic. There were tons of magic people in Wonderland, the entire place itself was magic. Maybe there was someone that could help him and get it through his thick skull that he could destroy everything not that it seemed to matter to him because right time-travel is some sort of godsend to fix all your shit and-
Yeah, as if a time-travelling screw-up is better than a pro!
She grit her teeth. The deep breaths didn't work. She stood slowly as though it would let all the anger slide out of her.
"There are-... there are tons of magic people here," she said, with visible effort. "Maybe someone you know."
no subject
"It would be nice to have someone from my time here. Maybe they could help me."
no subject
"Your time," she shot at him. "Did you ever think maybe your time is the wrong one? Maybe there isn't one right timeline and you just... want things your way." She turned to leave, barely realizing that she hadn't even gotten his name.
She was so... angry. It wasn't even that he wanted to undo Wonderland. She seriously doubted that he had any power to do that. But it was just... how casually he thought that he had brought about the place, how much he was trying to reverse it all, how he threw the thought of Chloe aside with a sorry. The mixture of finding yet another time-traveler and at the same time hearing him want to try it out in Wonderland...
Here where things were better than in Arcadia Bay...
"Just-" She sighed, turning back to him briefly. "Just try to find someone to explain how things here work, before you go around with..." She gestured at the books. "This."
no subject
"Look, this isn't a game," he said. "I've seen other places. I've watched people... die. All because I couldn't save them and didn't have a right to save them. But I still had to watch. That doesn't make this any easier."
Albus felt as though he was on the verge of breaking. This was too much to deal with right now. "What I want is to wake up back at Hogwarts. What I want is to see Scorpius again, even if that means I have to listen to him go on and on about Rose. What I want is for everything to go back to normal. But I can't have that by sitting in my room doing nothing."
He knew that he should stop talking. It wasn't as though the girl understood anything he was saying. Still, Albus had a tendency to let his mouth run away with him. Before he could shut his mouth he added one last phrase.
"You're right about one thing," he said. "I hope someone gives me a clue as to how all of this works. Because you certainly weren't any help."

Fucking-
Her fists clenched at her side, and she felt her face turn hot. He doesn't get it, she thought, realizing at the same time that they really were just... not familiar with each other at all. And no- she would not deal with his bullshit right now. All those weird words he said go right over her head as she tried (and visibly failed) to control her anger.
Finally, at his last accusation, she whipped out a pen and notebook from her messenger bag. She tried not to glare too harshly as she hurriedly scribbled a few words on a page, then ripped the paper out and laid it in front of him in one angry motion.
There were names scrawled roughly on the paper:
Henry
Sans
Lily
Nageki
"There. People who know about magic." She practically hissed the words at him, then turned to leave quickly before it became obvious that she was teary-eyed out of frustration.
She wasn't even sure that Nageki counted. And there were obviously going to be people that she missed- several magic-users whose names she didn't know or couldn't remember. But like hell she was going to put either Frisk or Chara, or any other time-traveler, on there.
She strode away from him and out of the library without so much as a glance back.

Lily
No. It couldn't be. Could it? Could his sister be here?
"Wait," he called after the girl but she was already gone. Albus tucked the list into his pocket, needing to take a few deep breaths. If his sister was here then Albus had more important things to worry about than time-travel. He had to get in touch with her as soon as possible.
Gardens
Life wasn't great, but it was bearable again, and that was enough to put a smile on his face and a spring in his step. Bring on Mutant Island the fungus zombies and the gender swapping--he could take it all on as long as he had access to his magic. That was all that mattered.
It had been a while since he'd carried his staff around with him when there were no threats to face, but like a security blanket he couldn't bear to let it out of his sight; he'd opted to carry it around with him throughout the day, casting spells for little to no reason other than he could. A waste of magic, sure, but you could only waste magic if you had it.
He was still carrying it with him on his evening stroll, and upon seeing Albus huddled in the shadows, he showed off a bit by lighting the end to see better by. Wasn't magic great? "Why the long face?"
no subject
Hello, sir," Albus said. "I'm out enjoying the evening. It's my first day here so I'm feeling a bit... out of place."
He didn't want to go too far into details with a stranger he just met. Albus knew enough to keep on his guard. Not only was he in a new and unfamiliar place, but strange wizards brought their own sort of danger.
no subject
Coming to a stop, he leaned on his staff as if it were a walking stick--which it essentially was when there was nothing to fight out here on the grounds except the odd mosquito. The kid was brand new out of the gate? No wonder he'd looked a little glum and lost in thought when Anders had happened upon him.
"Ah, that would explain it. That's a sorry thing to hear." This was said with no small amount of sympathy. Wonderland was the hardest on the kids who had families and lives to go back to. "Is it just you or have you found anyone you know?"
no subject
Albus had always wondered what it would be like without his famous names. He always imagined it would be easier if no one recognized the name 'Potter' but this was a bit ridiculous. Instead of feeling like his own man, he just felt even more alone.
"At least I'm not the only wizard," he said, trying to focus on the bright side. "You wouldn't happen to know where we are in respect to Hogwarts, would you?"
no subject
"Well, don't worry about that," he said, putting on a smile. "You'll start getting to know people soon enough and the majority of us are a friendly sort. We have not belonging here in common."
For someone not to react to his magic could mean a few things, like maybe they were passing familiar with mages in their own world. Many seemed to be. But it wasn't as often that he ran into a fellow magic user like this, and he lifted his eyebrows when the boy referred to the both of them as wizards. That wasn't a term he'd heard in a while.
"You have magic of your own? Well, well! That's two things you and I have in common. I'm afraid I couldn't say. This realm connects to as many realms as you can imagine. I don't think anyone knows for sure which corner of the universe we're in."
