Summary: Having a bored Shepard is a bad thing so Miranda's done something about it
The Story:

( The targets that she'd used outside a few days ago, and the week before that, had been a temporary idea but they didn't amount to much. The weapon that Miranda had with her made short work of them, and an outside target practice just wasn't the same.

The planet wasn't right, either. It wasn't Earth, as much as it wanted to look like it, and for how long she'd spent in space she missed it a little. If she did maybe some of the others on the Normandy did too, especially Shepard.

She'd say this place was for Shepard more than her, but in the days that Miranda had spent constructing it (and testing it) it had felt good. Having a project to do was nice, and she'd even made it look like a room on the Normandy would. The walls held up well against her gun (and her biotics - she'd had to test it) and the targets were heavier duty than what she'd been using for testing outside (and Shepard might even find a few enemy faces on some of the dummies). It was ready.

On the first day after she's completed it Miranda messages Shepard to tell her to meet her there. After that she comes back periodically through the rest of the month, to use it as well as to check on it. Some days she'll be shooting, others she'll be throwing dummies across the room )

[She wasn't sure exactly what Miranda had been planning, but she follows her directions down to the basement and can't help but smile when she sees what's been laid out. Man. Reminds her so much of being back on the Normandy, laughing with everyone, finding the stupidest positions they could shoot from and almost blowing a hole straight through the hull.

She brought her sniper rifle, slung over her back even without her armor, as she stands in the doorway.]

Wow, you did all this for me? I knew there was some warm fuzzy feelings in there.

If only to make sure you were out of trouble.

( She doesn't want to find out what a bored Shepard would be like. Especially in a place like Wonderland. The place supposedly totes madness without that )

I thought it might have uses.

Oh, c'mon, as if this wasn't for you too.

[She still can't stop smiling because like. Oh man. Feels like home, you know?]

Still, I'd be more than happy to shoot the crap out of it as an inaugural run. Make sure it's Shepard-proof.

I was surprised at how much this place let it look like the Normandy.

Honestly, yeah. My room looks almost exactly like it did back on the ship.

[It... helps her ground herself. Plus, fish tanks and model ships!]

Plus the closet spit out all the models I left back on the Normandy. So now it looks perfect.

[She's getting her sniper rifle set up, with the kickstands and everything, because she's gonna go friggin' wild on this thing.]

( Fish tanks??? Prayer circle for no clones )

Maybe I should do some decorating of my own.

( 80% joking. Who needs decorations )

Try not to blow a hole in the wall.

( Not gonna happen, unless Shepard has some new Wonderland bullet that Miranda hasn't tested already )

[Hey, Shepard didn't fall through HER fish tank. Just A fish tank. The distinction is important.]

Whatever makes you feel comfortable. Y'know, besides blowing shit up.

[She lines up a nice shot, and fires. Hits the target, and thankfully does not break the wall.]

C'mon, Miranda, you think I'm that bad a shot?

I think you'd truly test the place.

( And maybe purposefully fire into the wall )

But it's nice to see it lives up to its job.

So you want me to hit the wall. That sounds like an invitation, you know.

[She aims at the wall, grinning wildly.]

There isn't a better way to test it.

Well, if you insist...

[She points and shoots, which would look like a wild miss if she wasn't intending it that way. Still, it holds.]

Looks like you did some quality work.

Did you expect anything less?

I mean, you asked me to test it. Implying you were uncertain.

[She shoots the wall again for good measure, and then repositions to some actual dummies.]

I was certain, but you also have a propensity for destroying things.

Hah! Just be glad I don't have any biotics to speak of, alright? Then I could really wreck this thing.

[She can get like, one warp, on a good day. Thanks to Miranda for that biotic amp she doesn't need, but has anyway! Or at least, to some Miranda. Might not be this one.]

[ this is tali's second visit. the first was to make sure it really was here and seeming relatively safe, but this time she's here to shoot. and maybe to make some modifications to the target movements, because it's not like she's here to snipe, she just wants to keep sharp in case something goes sideways. miranda's already here with her biotics blazing, though, so tali sneaking in a few range upgrades will have to wait. ]

I hear we have you to thank for this.

( Once the mannequin is gone, slammed against the wall but not destroyed (good... whatever the material was that Wonderland had given her) Miranda turns to Tali, giving her first a nod before replying )

It's not the same, but I thought it would work.

It's a start, at least. [ because she can't give miranda too much credit for anything. gotta keep that status quo. ]

Good job. How is Shepard enjoying it?

She's made sure it was "Shepard-proof".

( Because that's all she needs to say )

It reminds her of the Normandy. ( Duh. That had been Miranda's idea

And then. Finally: ) She likes it.

[ way to make her wait for it, cheerleader. ]

I'm glad. She seems a little... stressed out. I mean, she's usually under a decent amount of stress, but usually she has more things to punch. Better to give her things to shoot now than deal with the fallout of her punching other Wonderland captives later.

I'm surprised it hasn't already happened. There wasn't anything for her to shoot before.

( Though she had spotted the training room with its punching bags )

I think we should be proud of her. You know, for not losing it.

[ is there a "congrats on not going crazy yet" card they can co-sign? stepping around miranda, tali pulls her shotgun from its usual spot at her back, bringing it up to sight the nearest intact target, but not disabling the safety yet. it's just something for her hands to do while they talk. ]

Did you think to install moving targets as well?

Not yet, although Shepard will probably need to move on to them.

( It's just not as fun not getting to chase someone down. She may also be semi-open for ideas. She can at least appreciate Tali's engineering skills - she has lots of them )

Did you have something in mind?

So long as a closet will give me some rails and motors, I bet I could rig your targets to move. Back and forth, side to side. Randomizing the patterns would be the easiest part, of course.

[ for her, at least. it's not even bragging at this point, this is hobby level stuff for someone like tali. ]

( It let her make this, so why not just get those little bits? )

[ tali does sound like she's teasing, though, glancing miranda's way with a smile behind her mask before she sights her shotgun again, thumbing off the safety and then firing two quick shots at the target nearest her. there's damage at heart level and a little lower. not bad, she figures. ]

We're doing this for Shepard. Whatever helps her best.

( Yes. For Shepard. Not because it's a good idea or Tali's got skill or anything. Nope

BUT she does watch as Tali fires her shots. Maybe slightly impressive. Not a bad shot, anyway )

I set this up with her in mind - her weapons. Hopefully it suffices for all.

A good range is adaptable. [ tali is, as always, very good at sounding smug. ] It'll be great once I'm done with it.

[Rumors spread around the mansion, because no one has anything better to do, and when Rocket first heard about this, he thought it was absolute bullshit. Nobody has that kind of time or skill.

But it's one thing he'd be willing to prove wrong, so after confirming with someone the exact location, he arrives at the room, in question, his unfeasibly large gun slung over his shoulder. he watches Miranda throw a dummy into the wall and gives a low whistle (or an approximation of one anyway) of approval.]

Nice. I thought they were yankin' my tail about this.

( The "whistle" has her attention, and Miranda has to follow the voice to find- whatever the hell Rocket is. Some kind of furry alien, and one that she's never seen before in their galaxy. But he's appreciative of the room, and that gun is interesting )

Most people just go out and shoot at the trees when they get the itch. [not that it helps when you're used to shooting more than targets. or shooting things that have a few less trees involved. or have friends who are trees, so it feels a little weird.

he steps more into the room.] But this... This is better.

( Who shoots trees? That's a stupid idea. At least Miranda's targets are people shaped, it's a little more sensible )

It should be. If it's to keep people occupied.

You'd be surprised what people can get up to if they ain't properly stimulated.

( She does it with her biotics, pulling the one she'd sent across the room back, righting it with more care than she'd used to send it across the room )

The same way I get everything- I stole it. [he doesn't really seem all that fazed by her abilities. space is weird. you get all sorts, though it does make him miss Wanda.

[once his shot is lined up, the gun powers up and with a satisfying KZZZZWARK noise probably... does a lot more to that dummy than throw it across the room. poor dummy.]

See? That's what I've been sayin', but all I hear is "Rocket, man, give 'em a chance," and my personal favorite, "well nobody really stays dead around here anyway."

At least I know I won't have to spend time on Shepard if she gets herself killed.

I'd have thought that not dying would be considered more acceptable than being brought back. Having to be brought back shows that you failed.

I guess nobody's okay with dyin', but, man, where's their pride?

[he shakes his head.] I just try not to get killed, myself. They say there's a limit on how many times you can pull that trick anyway.
