+ FOURTH WALL EVENT: FOREST PARTY +
Who: E V E R Y O N E
Where: The Forest!
When: Sept 7th to Sept 10th
Rating: G to PG-13 (please label higher ratings, thank you!)
Summary: Could it be that you (GASP!) don't want to be here? Do you maybe want to make like a tree and... leaf? Then how about you do the next best thing, and come to the woods to party! And don't forget to have a look at the Fourth Wall Master Post for event rules, puzzle clues, and more places to mingle!
The Story:
Beginning on September 7th, colourful ribbons will hang from several trees by the forest. Whoever follows their path will be guided deeper, right to the scene of a forest party.
Wooden benches, swings in all shapes and sizes, tree trunks, and other arrangements give plenty of opportunities to sit together. Tree houses and tents provide shelter, and come nightfall the festivities will light up for you.
Campfires provide additional light and warmth and a great place for ghost stories. Camping coolers store more than smores, and all around you nature twists and turns to give you room to dance to the music, to wander in the quiet, and to simply have a good time!
(...Are you the curiously perceptive, or the perceptively curious sort? If so, then you might also notice the small bird sitting on a branch nearby.)

[But he doesn't go. He just stands there.]
...i know you're not. she's not very good at pretending to be you. except from behind, i guess.
i just, uh. didn't want to get in your way.
[She was having fun, and now she has to deal with this sad sack of bones. Poor girl.]
no subject
What did you mean when you said "sorry for all of this"? What... [What did you do this time? she almost asks. She reins in the impulse.] What happened, Sans?
no subject
uh, i'm.
[He doesn't know what to say.]
[It's a neat fern.]
i'm not...an easy person to put up with.
[Not what he wanted to say.]
half the time i don't know why people bother. and that's not...some bid for sympathy. see, you...say things like that and it comes out like you're...feeling sorry for yourself? but that's, uh. not it. i just actually...don't understand it. something's...
[He taps the side of his skull, still staring at the fern, face completely unreadable.]
...not right. with me. when i say i don't get it, i mean i literally don't get it. these amazing people who stick it out, and bother with me, when i just...
but it's. not about me.
i let you down. and i wanted to apologize when i messaged you, but. it seemed like it would feel tacked on. empty.
[He rubs the back of his neck.]
i message you out of nowhere with a warning and go oh, by the way, sorry for being an ass. wasn't right. you deserved better. i mean, you deserved better than having some dumpy skeleton spew word salad in the middle of the freaking woods. you might not even like salad. heh.
[Not funny.]
what happened doesn't...really matter. i just wanted to apologize. i let you down. i betrayed your trust. and...before anything else happens in this insane event, i figured you should at least hear that.
that's all.
...sorry.
no subject
She frowns as he goes on, taking in everything he's saying. Though she does chuckle, more like exhale with a smile, really, when he mentions the salad. That was actually funny.
By the time he's wrapping up she realizes that she has no idea what to say. For a moment she only looks up at the trees and blinks, mouth open, confused. Then she swallows down her worry and gives him a sidelong look.]
I don't think there's something wrong with you, Sans. [Her voice is clear and the words come out with a steady cadence, carefully thought out.] You kind of... made a mistake. I get it. If it was anything else, then it wouldn't have... been such a big deal. I just kept thinking-... I mean, did you tell them right after we talked? Was it the first thing you did, after I told you not to?
[That's certainly what it felt like. And the hurt in her voice, the slight anger, is all there. She glances at him full on, then continues.]
I thought you'd apologize sooner. I guess you did, but I mean, something like this, you know? [Something more sincere, not just some caught-red-handed apology. Maybe actually looking for her, trying to win her back as a friend. Something like that. She runs a palm over her forehead with a sigh.]
You're a good person Sans. B-but... It's not like- like you're any more... messed up than anyone else. [She looks at him awkwardly, trying to bury the sudden emotion with a lame smile.] Except for the puns. The puns are... unbeleafable.
no subject
i didn't tell them right away, no. and i...misinterpreted. that's not an excuse. i was...i was obligated to tell them both something. because if it came out later and they were blindsided, it would have been worse for everyone. i thought if i was vague...i'm good at being vague, heh. i thought it would be alright if i just kept it simple. but...what i was doing was putting them before you.
[And that's not an okay thing to do to someone, even though he does it all the time. He just...doesn't have the capacity to care about everyone equally. A major failing. And at the end of the day, there's always going to be one person who takes absolute priority.]
i didn't apologize sooner because i, uh. it's easier to just remove myself from the equation and leave people alone than to try and...fix things. i sort of figured you'd rather just not talk to me again.
but, uh. wonderland is awful small. and things keep happening.
[So this was kind of inevitable, one way or another.]
[The corner of his mouth quirks at the pun.]
...heh. good one. i, uh, wood be remiss if i didn't compliment your pun skills.
no subject
It's not like she would have agreed, but they could have talked about it.
And about putting other people ahead first? That one special person?
Max definitely gets that part.
Maybe that's common... for people like them.]
Yeah, it's easier. [Her tone isn't unkind, but it does have a slight edge to it. Shit, she's picked the easy way out a lot of times.
She kind of looks down glumly with the thought that she's maybe being a little too hypocritical.] I... wouldn't mind still talking, you know.
no subject
yeah.
[He hears the edge and lowers his head just slightly. He deserves it. He chooses the easy way out, always does, except for in one glaring instance, and even then it's only because it doesn't matter.]
[And because in and of itself, it's a way out. The only way out.]
are you okay with that? because...if you asked, i would leave you alone. i wouldn't bother you.
no subject
She huffs out a tired breath.]
Nah... you're great to talk to.
[It's mostly true. She closes her eyes briefly as she inhales, rubbing the back of her neck with one hand.]
I keep... I keep wondering what Chara and Frisk think of me, now. This wasn't supposed to be a problem here. I'm trying to dump that stuff, you know? [She looks at him with a certain hardness in her eyes.] I only brought it up because... I needed to know about them. I couldn't not know.
no subject
all they know is that something happened in your world. that something happened to you. they don't know you can...
[He resists the urge to touch the crack above his eyesocket. It still aches, but dully. Stupid crack doesn't matter in the grand scheme of what's happening, anyway.]
i mean, i guess it might just be your mirror anyway. i'm not gonna assume.
no subject
[She looks at him for a while, with what she hopes is a blank expression. It isn't. Her mouth is pressed very slightly into a worried line, her eyes tense and narrowed the tiniest bit.
She doesn't really trust him with this stuff anymore so he gets the bare minimum.]
I can't. I know what you're talking about. The rewinds.
I can't do them Sans. I've tried. My mirror... isn't me.
those gosh darn small tags
[She might be lying, but he doesn't think so. He nods once.]
okay.
Let's just pretend he was too lazy to talk loudly
Seriously.
[Yup, not gonna drop it.]
he definitely was
okay. i believe you, max.
[He pauses.]
for...future reference, though, so to speak, heh...is there any way to, uh. stop it? or undo the effects?
no subject
Sans, what happened to your... uhh. [She points at the spot just abover her own eye.] Here?
no subject
oh. it's nothing. just, uh, consequences of being careless.
no subject
no subject
no, it's...i'm fine. doesn't even hurt anymore.
[Or at least, it doesn't hurt nearly as much as it did.]
just don't worry about it.
no subject
You did, didn't you? [And then she finally puts two and two together. Sometimes Max is awfully perceptive.]
You... fought my mirror.
no subject
[His voice is resigned. Caught. Can't hide anymore.]
i thought she was you at first. she'd seen me using magic earlier, so i guess she...heh, i guess i'm just predictable.
[She'd expected him to turn her soul blue, and she'd expected him to teleport. Kind of a perfectly executed plan, really, for all that he's pretty sure she only planned as far as "fuck with Sans."]
it's...heh. it's too much to explain. kinda funny. i'm not, uh, even supposed to be able to get hurt, but she. heh. she broke the rules.
no subject
Of course she did.
[Fuck time travel.]
I'm so sorry, Sans... I wish knew more so I could help, but I stink at all of this.
no subject
i won't ask for details. i'm pretty sure i can, uh, deal with it if i run into her again.
[Just don't teleport. Heh, just don't use one of his most important tools for survival. No big deal. He went without teleporting for most of his life and survived despite everything, so. He can do it again.]
no subject
That would be amazing because it would soothe some of her guilt and actually make her less scared of the rewinds.
If she believed he could deal with it. She doesn't.]
It's a little hard not to worry. [Her tone is whiny, and it bugs her that she's reached that point. She crosses her arms, annoyed.]
She hasn't tried to talk to me.
no subject
[The event has to end sometime, though, and then the Mirrors will be on their proper side for awhile, and they can just. Ignore the problem for some time. Hell, maybe the crack in his skull will just go away, or people will just stop asking about it.]
[Hahaha oh man. He sucks at wishful thinking. It just really doesn't come naturally to him.]
she might be wary of you. maybe she thinks you have the same ability.
[Or she might be waiting for the least opportune moment so she can hurt Max...]
no subject
[If it keeps mirror-Max away, then that's fine with her. That's kind of wishful thinking, too, isn't it? Damn.
She unfolds her arms and prepares to leave, unsure what to say. Things are still a little awkward.]
Hopefully she won't be back for a long, long time.
no subject
[He also shifts as if to leave.]
anyway, i'll leave you to it. i'm running late for a nap, and i hate being late.
[He smiles a bit and winks at her. Yeah, he definitely hates being late for anything, for sure.]
