[ OPEN ] we are all pursuing magic
Who: Professor Kurt Weller + YOU!
Where: Literally everywhere!
When: Throughout the event
Rating: Doubtful it would be higher than PG but will edit if needed
Summary: Professor Kurt Weller will be in his element teaching Charms class and assisting students after class who may need extra assistance; he will be enjoying some time at Hogsmeade; spending time in the common (he is Gryffindor Head of House); and for fun, there will be a movie marathon of the best muggle movies played on an old-fashioned projector!
The Story:
ϟ Charms Class ϟ
[ Professor Kurt Weller takes great pride in his Charms class, and it's evident in not only his engaging teaching style, but his dedication to being constantly available to his students. He wants them to learn all that they can because he's always believed mastery of Charms is essential to being successful with all other magic, especially when it comes to magical dueling and Defense Against the Dark Arts. He's laying the groundwork, and knows students will realize they were wise to take their studies seriously as they grow. The nature of the class necessitates collaboration, and Kurt encourages students to not only test out Charms with each other, but to ask questions of each other first and then come to him if they're still unsure.
As a professor, Kurt is focused and serious, but when students are least expecting it, he'll devote either a small fraction of time or an entire class to more fun charms. Though he's obviously pleased with the students who are eager and diligent, Kurt is proud of all his students and doesn't hesitate to make sure they know he cares and he's there if they need a guiding hand or listening ear. Any Fifth Year students particularly worried about the practical portion of their Charms O.W.L.s are welcome to request additional tutoring from him, though extra tutoring is more than available for all. ]
ϟ Hogsmeade ϟ
[ Kurt's always enjoyed Hogsmeade, enchanted by the village from his very first visit. As a muggleborn, he could have never imagined half the things that he'd come to discover in his first year at Hogwarts. His sister was still so young at that point that she wouldn't have understood half the things he told her about, but he would weave all of his experiences into bedtime stories when he'd go home and visit her, making it accessible in ways she would understand. He would tell her about the cello that played itself, the butterbeer, choosing a wand, watching people perform magic with the ease of breathing. He took her with him to Hogsmeade before he could ever actually take her here, so this place has always been special for so many reasons.
Now, of course, he loves watching his students light up as they have fun. He enjoys meeting up with his fellow professors - often at The Three Broomsticks Inn - to share some food and drinks and catch up on life. Most of his fellow professors are people he's grown up with, their bonds only stronger as they age. He has fun perusing Dominic Maestro's Music Shop or shopping for holiday gifts at Gladrags Wizardwear and Honeydukes. He knows so many people that Kurt inevitably runs into at least five friends or students on any given weekend, and no matter what he's at the village for, he never hesitates to stop and talk to someone he knows. ]
ϟ Gryffindor Common Room ϟ
[ The Gryffindor Common Room is one of Kurt's favorite places to be (when he's not with his girlfriend, Professor Jane Doe) and it's a rare evening indeed when he's not there (the only other place he'd be during a weekday evening is the Hufflepuff Common Room). Out of the confines of class, Kurt is a little more laid-back with students who may approach him, either for help with homework or advice and/or conversation of a more personal nature. Having a sister so much younger than him and essentially raising her on his own has manifested a protective instinct in Kurt. He's also naturally inclined to feel a sense of fatherly love and concern for students who may need it most. He can often be found reading near the fireplace, though some clever students may catch him on extraordinarily rare occasions setting up pranks in the common room. It happens perhaps once or twice in a given year because Kurt is generally not the pranking type, but that's exactly why he enjoys doing it, and rarely getting caught. (ooc: Feel free to have your character make up a prank if you'd like and catch him in the act!)
ϟ Muggle Movie Night ϟ
[ Once a year, Kurt gathers up a large collection of what he deems to be the best muggle movies. He's careful to rotate, of course, so there aren't repeat movies each time they have one of these marathons. The marathon begins early on Sunday morning and lasts until late at night, such that he may incur a chiding from some of the other professors about how late he's kept the students up. There's no magic involved when they watch, and he insists on playing the movies with the use of an old-fashioned projector. There's plenty of popcorn, snacks, and other junk food to enjoy as they watch a varied selection, including Star Wars (the first three), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Wizard of Oz, and Young Frankenstein. ]
ϟ Elsewhere ϟ
[ Professor Weller can be seen in the Hufflepuff Common Room often through the week, both because Professor Doe is there, and his baby sister is a Hufflepuff. During meals, you might actually be enjoying something Kurt has baked himself. He could use magic, of course, but being muggleborn and a decent cook, he enjoys making things for people sometimes, often delicious pastries. He'll rotate and sit with older students occasionally or even his sister when she's not going through a phase thinking he's uncool. Most of the time, though, he'll be with his fellow professors and his girlfriend. During Quidditch matches, Kurt is energetic and extremely vocal as he cheers on the Gryffindor team. ]
[ ooc: Let me know if you want a separate closed starter and I can set that up! Will also match format if you prefer prose! ]

At the moment, this seems to be bothering him pretty judiciously, because he's having trouble getting any of the assigned Charms for the day to work as required, and it's beginning to frustrate him to the point of outrage.]
Fuck, [he mutters under his breath, as he once again tries to turn his vinegar into wine, and once again ends up with nothing more than a glass of...cider, maybe? It's got bubbles. Why's it got bubbles.]
no subject
Do that again and I'm knocking off some house points. Now, what's going on? [ He can see that the glass of wine that should be there isn't, but there's obviously more to this. ]

When she gains entry into the room she ignores anyone wondering why a puff is in their room and finds her brother with a book, smiling and sitting beside him. ]
Do professors ever stop reading, or is it just a constant thing?

Rarely. Except when their little sisters stop by, or their girlfriends are around to kiss. [ He loves bringing up Jane to tease her sometimes. ]

That's why when he can't seem to get the hang of the seize and pull, he huffs in frustration, loosening his Gryffindor tie a little and trying again, pointing his wand at a book he's trying to pull in. ]
Carpe Retractum!
[ It starts off great, but when he tries to pull the object back toward him, it...falls apart and fizzles out. Putting his wand down for a second, he rubs his face. This is definitely going to be on final exams and he just wants to get it. ]

At least his frustrations today are simply over trying to master a Charm, but he knows it's still a stressful thing. Walking over to him, Kurt has an air of calmness around him, resting a hand on Henry's shoulder as he speaks to him. ]
How many times have you tried this Charm, Henry?

[ except barry fell asleep in charms class. ]
[ he'd missed a good portion of the lesson — and it's one of his favourite classes, if not for the fact professor weller teaches it. all he remembers is he'd rested his elbow on the table and his cheek against his fist, and then he was being nudged as the class was being dismissed. ]
[ it wouldn't worry barry if he hadn't almost fallen asleep in his breakfast the other morning. falling asleep in breakfast. if barry allen isn't known as a gryffindor prefect or a lover of all things muggle pop music (and cursing the suits of armour to sing and dance to it), he's best known for the fact he eats like food is air for him. ]
[ after he comes back from a class that had happened at the same time as his transfiguration class, he flops down on the armchair in the gryffindor common room. his bag sinks to the floor and he sprawls himself on there like he's made out of lead. ] Hey, Professor. Long time no see.

When Barry had proposed the idea of using a Time Turner for his 6th Year, where others had balked, Kurt was supportive. He knows what he's capable of, what he can handle, and he deserves the chance to try. That's not to say Kurt didn't harbor concern in the back of his mind that if things did get to be too much for Barry, he wouldn't simply carry on like everything was fine regardless.
Setting his book aside when he's spoken to, Kurt raises an eyebrow. ]
Yeah. We missed you in Charms Class, Barry.
[ Oh, yes. He was there, but...not there. ]
You feeling okay? [ It's not like him, Kurt knows that, and he'll give him a chance to open up first before questioning further. ]

It's our last year here at Hogwarts and I want you-- no, Ray. It's not about you it's about Sa-- Professor Weller! Hullo!
[ ...did ray's voice just crack? he tries to cover it with a too-wide smile because hey he totally wasn't just rehearsing a speech for sarah. who is professor weller's little sister. that he loves. a lot. ha. haha. this is fine! ]

But he runs into Ray first, and he distinctly hears everything Ray's just said. Folding his arms across his chest, Kurt nods a little at him. He's never really had a problem with Ray, though he's always been more stern around him. ]
Ray. Don't let me interrupt: finish what you were gonna say.
[ Please do. He's very interested in hearing this. ]

MOVIE NIGHT i hope a skeleton is okay
It's one of the very few times that he shows up anywhere on time, because he really doesn't want to miss anything. He knows Professor Weller from class and because the guy's always coming by the Hufflepuff dorms--Sans is pretty sure he's got 'Puff family or something.
"Hey--did it start yet? I've been looking forward to this all month."
it's perfect!
It seems he's drawn a big crowd this year, though he's not surprised given that Star Wars is showing.
"You're just in time," Kurt smiles with a friendly nod at Sans. "Grab some food if you're hungry, there's plenty to eat." He's also happy to hear Sans has been looking forward to this. It's not a huge event in the scheme of things, but something near and dear to Kurt's heart.

Hogsmeade
Then again, what would he know? His brother's been spending most of his time focused on his job in the Ministry that Peter rarely gets the chance to talk to him anymore. He adores and worships Nathan, but sometimes wishes he'd put work aside for a minute so they can be a family again. ]
Hey, Professor.
no subject
It was a surprise to everyone when Peter was sorted into Gryffindor, and though it was never Kurt's business, he always wondered if his family ever made him feel bad about it. It certainly wasn't anything within his control, but some families are incredibly narrow-minded when it comes to House sorting, he knows.
Kurt cares about all of his students, but as Head of House, he's particularly watchful over his fellow Gryffs, and Peter is no exception, especially given his lineage. Pleased to see him out in the village and hopefully enjoying the day, Kurt smiles with a friendly nod. ]
Peter. How's everything? Good day so far?

She is so, so ready.
So when it comes time to demonstrate mastery over the water charm, it's possible that Sharon is a little too excited.
One moment she's holding her wand in front of her, the next she's saying aqua eructo, and the next she's still holding her wand.
Except now everyone - and everything - in front of her is drenched, and she's staring at Professor Weller, utterly mortified. She'd only meant to do a tiny string of water, but that, that had been...
Crap.
She swallows and slowly lowers her wand, folding her hands on her desk.
Crap. Crap crap crap.

"Hey. I'm deducting House points to anyone still laughing when I stop talking." The silence is swift and deafening then, and Kurt nods a little. "Good." Clearing his throat, he uses a Drought Charm to help dry things up, and then orders the students to go back to their practice.
Then he makes his way to Sharon, resting his hands on her desk.
"Sharon. Wanna tell me what happened?" He asks her gently.

But today there had been a bit of an unruly incident after flying lessons, and a miserable afternoon in History of Magic, and she's not exactly sure how much the professors all talk to each other about their students, but she might have felt a concerned eye or two on her in passing from the high table at supper in the Great Hall.
She really doesn't think she can handle another adult lecturing her right now, because the lump that's been sitting in her throat hasn't really left yet.
So Coraline's sort of trying to evade Professor Weller's attention, which usually isn't too much of a problem with all the antics going on, but tonight there seems to be an unusual lull in the room and some of the older girls are loitering around right at the foot of the dormitory staircase, and she probably won't be able to just make a break for it and slip through the cluster of them unnoticed.
no subject
He's not at all interested in lecturing her, he's reasonably sure she's had enough of that already today.
But he does want to talk to her. Setting the last paper aside, he makes a move towards her.
"Coraline. I'd like to talk to you."

Gryffindor common room
What are you up to?
[Don't mind Anders if he casually slinks down the dormitory stairs where he'd been finishing up some reading in his bed (it's a well-known fact it's easier to cast a silencing spell around your four-poster than around an entire, boisterous common room), having caught Kurt unawares while bent over something.
Slyly, Anders questions Professor Weller like he's walked in on him red-handed, doing something he shouldn't. It doesn't matter if he actually is, all history will remember is that one time Anders snuck up on Weller and spread a rumor about it at dinner.
It's how Kurt knows he's Anders favorite teacher.]
Movies (1/2) [Wendy and I come 1000 years late with Starbucks]
[He looks over the old camera, studying it with intense curiosity.]
Hm... Interesting set up you have there, Professor. [He turns to Wendy.] Do muggles still watch their films with that?
2/2, whoops we late
It's like, the authentic way to do it, with all the old reels and stuff. It makes everything look, like, right.
