The Story:



"It is round and earthy and low-ceilinged; it always feels sunny, and its circular windows have a view of rippling grass and dandelions. There is a lot of burnished copper about the place, and many plants, which either hang from the ceiling or sit on the windowsills. Our overstuffed sofas and chairs are upholstered in yellow and black, and our dormitories are reached through round doors in the walls of the common room. Copper lamps cast a warm light over our four-posters, all of which are covered in patchwork quilts, and copper bed warmers hang on the walls, should you have cold feet."

The students of Hufflepuff can usually be found in all corner of the common room, studying, playing exploding snap, or just conversing with their fellow housemates. Sometimes a member of another house can be found sitting among their Hufflepuff friends- most students don't mind, they welcome anyone who is respectful of their common room.

Clint Barton | 6th Year | OTA

Clint could often be found lounging on a couch in front of the fire either stuffing his face with candy from the latest Hogsmeade trip, or trying to study and figure out how to make heads or tails of his homework. Forever at ease he will always have a kind word or a joke for whoever happens to drop by to chat, and he also isn't above begging a fellow 6th year for some help with his potions essay- how do you make it not explode?

Clint can also often be found out on the Quidditch pitch, either at team practice, or practicing on his own. He feels most at home on a broom in the air and if he wants to play professionally after school is over than he needs to put as much effort into becoming the best seeker in the league as he possibly can.

Damon is not going to be much help with the potions essay. He's not someone who applies himself remotely to anything when it comes to education or anything related to it, but he's having the same issue so they're commiserating currently on exploding essays.

Also, why.

"Doesn't it present some sort of risk to our health?"

Sharon, fourteen and gangly and depressingly flat (why does the universe hate her?) spots Clint nearly as soon as she comes in. Clint, Darcy's brother. Clint, who is... much cuter than he was two years ago.

In her humble opinion, of course.

Decided, she takes a chair nearby and sets some of her books on the table in front of her. She should flirt. Make it obvious that she likes him. As more than Darcy's older brother.

Of course, the library didn't have any books on how to flirt. She'd checked.

So instead she asks, "Professor Foster still gives you a hundred if you get everything technically right, right?"

Rebekah doesn't plan on playing professionally after she graduates, but she enjoys Quidditch a lot and likes to help her teammates where she can. So sometimes she comes out to the field to practice even when the team isn't doing it formally, knowing she's likely to run into a few of them out there.

When she makes her way out to the field she catches Clint as he manages to snag the Snitch and smiles.

"Your time is getting better."

Kanji had also done his part to try and clear out Honeyduke's stock earlier that afternoon, having returned from Hogsmeade loaded up with sweets. Some of them were to be distributed among friends, but there was a good chance he'd pack away a good portion of it on his own. He grins when he drops into a seat opposite Clint in the Common Room, just as the Seeker makes a chocolate frog disappear.

"Looks like we had the same idea," he comments, setting the bag he'd lugged in with him down between his feet. "Surprised that place has anything left after we hit it."

"You realize you've been asking the same question for six years running, right?"

Granted, part of the issue is that there's always a way to make something explode. It's why Cami asks the question with a grin as she settles down next to Clint, making herself cozy on the couch. She's been in a pretty good mood herself these days, so Clint's in luck; he might get through this with only minimal teasing.

Hi bro, hope you weren't doing anything important because that certainly is your younger sister with a bright yellow ribbon in her hair plopping down rather unceremoniously on the couch next to you with a soft 'huff'.

"That's it. I'm totally failing my O.W.L. and I'll be stuck living at home with Mom and Dad and working the kid's party circuit or at a fast food restaurant and I'll have no friends because they'll all be off doing awesome things and you'll be a pro and half-way around the world and--" Breathe, Darcy. Holy crap. It all just kind of devolves into a dramatic groan as her head finds his shoulder. 5th year life is rough.

Sarah Weller | 7th year | OTA

Sarah's sitting in the common room, or more accurately, is lying on a couch using Wingardium Leviosa to make her book float at a comfortable level for reading. She's a little distracted, thinking about what she'll be doing in a few months that will definitely fly by. She knows that something in medicine is what she wants, but beyond that..what else? So, she's not so much reading as she is staring at a book and thinking deeply. She's easily distractable, though, and would very much welcome anything that isn't talking about what she wants to be 'when she grows up.'

Ray doesn't sit still often, and if he does it means one of two things: he's depressed, or he's near Sarah.

She quiets the four thousand thoughts he's thinking at any given time, stills his knee that bobs up and down as if it's trying to take off running without him. She's not just his girlfriend, but his best friend -- has been since they both got sorted into Hufflepuff what seems like an age ago.

He plops down next to Sarah, peeking around the book and holding out a steaming cup of tea toward her, grinning like he's just found out a secret he wasn't supposed to.

"Looks like you could use a break. I also have lemon biscuits..."

"How do you do that for so long without dropping it flat on your face?"

Simon's voice comes from alarmingly too close as he peers over the back of the couch, although he might have been there for some time now, suspiciously staring between her and the book floating over her face.

Cami really means to be focusing on her own homework; she's not behind per se, but certain things have proven distracting over the past month or so for her too. Granted, she's a year behind Sarah, so it's not exactly the same, but--well. N.E.W.T-level classes and boyfriends take up a lot of time, period.

"I might be wrong here, but haven't you been reading that same page for ten minutes now?" It's only a chance that Cami noticed it, sitting at the right angle, looking over at the right moment. She's pretty sure that Sarah hasn't turned the page, however, which is why she's come over to interrupt the older girl's thoughts.

"Incoming!" Thats the only warning Sarah gets before both a tiny gold ball and Clint Barton come flying over the top of the couch, knocking into her book and then landing with a loud crash on the floor next to her.

"Got it!" Clint sits up holding the snitch his his hand proudly looking back across the common room smugly, like whoever threw it thought he wouldn't have been able to catch it.

Simon Lauchlan | 5th Year | OTA

Simon's a familiar figure sprawled in the Common Room, whether its studying, reading the paper, polishing his broomstick or generally causing some mischief among his housemates. Although getting him to hold still long enough to get anything done can often be a challenge in itself, there are some times when he makes exceptions - usually when his other housemates are in attendance and supplying background noise. He's always up for a bit of fun or to lend a helping hand should one of his friends need it.

When he's not in class or playing social butterfly, he's easy to find outside. He's constantly active out at the Quidditch Pitch, training or practicing or just keeping himself in shape because he takes the sport very seriously. In general, he's almost always somewhere keeping busy and active, but at least he's a creature of habit if you need to find him somewhere for something.

Clint is doing flips on his broom when he spots Simon entering the Quidditch pitch, broom and practice gear in hand. That was excellent because he had been starting to get bored practicing by himself. Maybe Simon could hit the bludgers at him for a while.

He turned his broom down towards the ground into a barrel roll dive before pulling up just over Simon's head, while hanging upside down.

"Hey, mate. What's up?"

Kanji doesn't play Quidditch, despite having the build for it, but like most other students, he's an active enthusiast-- which means supporting the House team in whatever way he can in between games. Most of the Hufflepuff players he knows are dedicated to their training, and even as the weather gets colder, he knows they'll be out there practicing before breakfast most mornings.

It's this particular consideration that leads Kanji to approach Simon in the Common Room after his return from Hogsmeade, holding out a pair of crocheted fingerless gloves in Hufflepuff's standard yellow and black.

"H-hey," he starts, flushing as he offers them, "Made some of these for everyone on the team. For practices."

It's early on Saturday morning when Jo happens upon Simon practicing solo out on the Quidditch pitch, well before anyone has left for Hogsmeade. She'd been planning to get in half an hour or so of broom time before heading down to the village with all the others, but finding that someone from an opposing team has had the same idea changes her plans-- just a little bit.

She raises an eyebrow as she props her weight against her broom at the edge of the pitch, putting one hand to the side of her mouth to help her voice carry.

"Lauchlan! You really think these early morning practices are gonna make a difference? I've seen firsties fly better than that!"

Damon Salvatore | 6th | OTA

After another particularly scathing communication with his father, Damon has decided the best method to deal with his own rage is to toss all that he has currently done for his homework into the fireplace of the Hufflepuff common room and watch it burn, because the only way he knows how to deal with being disappointing is to be more disappointing. The big problem? There's a lot of homework and some wind, and the burning paper drifts out from the fireplace... and start to catch parts of the common room on fire too.

He's quick to get out his wand, but there's a whole lot of fire, and it's sort of late at night. Watch out.

"Bloody hell," he says, turning his wand into a firehose and spraying down fiery parts, but he is pretty emotional at the moment so it's not the most successful spell. "Aguamenti!!"


Sometimes he plays games of exploding snap in the common room or dining hall which then result in him sometimes shoving the table away from him after he's got singed robes from the cards exploding at him. He's not great at this game, but he's trying to bribe someone to help him with homework that he burned up previously. If he wins, they help him with his homework but he hasn't won yet. It's not working out well for him. He keeps giving away things that other people want instead.

[Dipper is a pretty common sight in the Hufflepuff common room, despite not being in Hufflepuff himself. He and Mabel prefer to hang out together, which sometimes means both of them are in Ravenclaw, sometimes means both of them are in Hufflepuff.

He's spent enough time here that he definitely doesn't think of Hufflepuff as the boring dorm, but he also definitely doesn't think of it as the on fire dorm, especially not late at night, when he's about to sneak back to his own dorm and go to bed. He yelps and jumps back as a piece of fiery paper floats towards him, then yelps again as a spray of water hits him.]

There's a small skeleton in the common room, but this isn't a particularly uncommon sight. This weirdo is always around somewhere, doing homework or pointedly not doing his homework, or just generally goofing off. The common room is just so dang cozy, and Sans is all about cozy.

Right now he's tucked into his favorite armchair, reading a book despite the noise. The book is titled The Elegant Universe, not exactly standard Hogwarts fare. He must have gotten it from home. There's what appears to be a stack of potions homework on the floor next to him that is untouched, as well as a mug of tea that is half-gone and getting cold. How does a skeleton drink tea anyway? Don't worry about it, man.

Sans always manages to find some pretty interesting books; Cami is a little curious about what the muggles think makes the universe "elegant," but that's not why she's walking over. She's noticed the stack of homework, topped off with a much more familiar text, and she just wants to give Sans a little nudge in the responsible direction.

Rebekah Mikaelson | 6th Year

Rebekah can be often found out in the Quidditch fields practicing with her team -- she's rather accomplished as a Keeper and she likes the team dynamics. It had been hard at first being sorted into a house separate from her family but through the years she's come into her own and found her place there and being on the team had played no small part in that development.

When she isn't practicing she can be found in the common room socializing or doing homework. Her favorite subjects are Muggle Studies and History of Magic and she can be often found overwriting her essays for them. Sometimes she can also be found doing research on love charms or potions -- usually when she's developed a new crush. She's a little prone to them, though none of them have gotten very far in her limited experience so far.

Usually, when she's out in the common room she's accompanied by a fluffy white cat named Hecuba who is kind of a jerk. So if she scratches you up, Rebekah is sorry. She promises to heal that up for you, it's the least she can do.

Peter's not here to socialize. He's passed on a message through one the students and is now waiting outside the Hufflepuff Common Room. He's here to see Rebekah because they accidentally swapped one of their books during Charms class. He's not sure how it happened except it did and he's a little embarrassed that she has his book because it's covered in doodles and random sketches. He hopes she hasn't been going through it.

Darcy Lewis | 5th Year | OTA, will match style

[ Darcy's going for try-hard™ this year, considering how much was changing. Next year would be the last with her brother in the same school and then she'd be on her own. So, it was time to 100% stand on her own two feet and make a memorable splash. She wasn't a little 2nd year running around telling really bad jokes and getting starry-eyed at literally everyone. No, she'd been given responsibilities and was attempting to learn to cope with that pesky problem of actually noticing the opposite sex.

If she's in the common room, it's probably not to be social, at least not intentionally because it's pretty easy to distract her from her massive pile of books. She is actually trying to study and get ahead because someone's stressing out about the upcoming O.W.L.s to the point where she's probably gonna burn out before she hits the finish line. Help. Someone remind her what sunlight and fun looks like. ]

Mikan Tsumiki | Fifth Year

[Despite being shy and anxious, Mikan is probably a little well known in these parts - due to her A) tripping and somehow landing in embarrassing poses while crying, B) getting bullied by some less than noble students, and/or C) being a dang good nurse. Her healing magic can't be beat! Where can you find her?

- In the common room, studying for the O.W.L.s... or having tripped over a pile of books.
- In the hospital wing, ready to tend to your injuries.
- On the Qudditch field, in case anyone gets hurt.

Sam had never been a particularly diligent student in school. Oh, he wasn't terrible, and he was bright enough to do well without worrying, but still. That had changed a little when he found out that he was totally a wizard, but after several years at Hogwarts, even magical homework just becomes homework. He can usually be found in the common room, stretched out on one of the sofas while trying to work out some string of equations for arithmancy, and wondering why he'd ever thought that taking the subject was a good idea.

He's always willing to help the younger students with their homework, or badger certain fellow fifth years, no names mentioned, into getting their work done. And if he's brought a few games and books from home, well, people should always be up for a game of Pandemic.

Cami O'Connell | Sixth Year | OTA

Like many of her house, Cami spends a fair amount of time on the couches and chairs of the Hufflepuff common room. It's fantastic not for the splendor, but for the sheer spirit and comfort in the place. She doubts she'd feel the same way in any of the other houses, which makes Cami both proud to be a Hufflepuff and devoted to her duties as a prefect--mostly. She's not exactly the harshest, but she's also not going to let dumb teenage logic cost them points if she can help it. Mostly she tries to find the balance between calling people out and counseling them if that's what they need instead.

Of course, she doesn't spend all her time beyond the passage near the kitchens. She's got to study, and while the common room is great for that some days, others it definitely isn't. She enjoys hitting up the library or some other quiet corner, especially now that she's got N.E.W.T level classes on her plate. She also helps patrol the halls as night, as prefects are expected to do.

And then there are the times she can be found walking around with Klaus Mikaelson, a prefect like herself, but from Slytherin. The two are good friends--very good friends--and make no secret of it. What Cami does try to hide are the silly doodles that end up in her notebooks sometimes, hearts with "CO + KM" scribbled within, or the way she smiles to herself after she's read a letter delivered by his owl for the sixth time.

Year six is going pretty well for her, all things considered.

Lucifer may do his rounds at night the way he's supposed to, but if you think he's always trying to catch rule breakers, you'd be wrong. Most of the time, he wants to know who's doing naughty things just for the sake of knowing about it, in case that information might come in handy later, and for his own night time activities.

He's a pretty smooth talker and he makes it a point not to get caught in the first place. The people he busts at night aren't nearly as good at it as he is.

But he plays the part when the other prefects are around, especially those from other houses. Cami can see him leaning turning the corner and heading down the hall toward her, his eyebrows raising as he sees that she's alone.

"No Nik tagging along with you tonight?"

Riley Matthews | 4th Year | OTA

[Riley can often be found skipping around the common room, decorating it in various ways with bright colors (though she doesn't always do this, sometimes it's just straight up even more yellow than they already have due to the nature of being Hufflepuffs.

She can also be found studying, because she likes to responsibly try to do it! Especially charms and transfiguration, because she really does struggle with those and sometimes it ends with some interesting(?) results. That probably aren't always the good kind of interesting, like burning off your eyebrows or something. Oops]

[enter Mabel, who while not being as big a nerd as her brother, is actually a whiz at charms and transfiguration, and is always more than happy to tutor her fellow students, and since she and Riley are in the same year, she knows the poor girl's struggles.

so while Riley is studying, Mabel drops her bag beside the table and plants her hands on it, looking as serious as a drill sergeant prepared to put her troops through the paces. on her the face looks... a bit silly though.]

Mabel Pines | 3rd Year | OTA

[Mabel's contribution to the common room's brightly colored interior today can be found in the form of her practicing her Charms homework. In a strange turn of experimentation that her professors can't figure out and Mabel has declared a trade secret, every Charm she successfully performs has the bonus of bursting from her wand in a puff of multicolored glitter.

As such, the floor and various other surfaces are liberally coated in the stuff, and Mabel considers this to be no issue at all, still merrily going through her assignments and reciting the proper spells and observing the effects- this is the only kind of Homework she enjoys, after all.
