Summary: Mettaton treats Wonderland to his second performance on All Hallow’s Eve!
The Story:

As Mettaton advertised a couple of days ago, on the day of Halloween, Wonderland is covered in black and orange posters. They are decorated with appropriately spooky pictures, though all of them promote the MTT brand in some way. The information found on them is as follows:

IT’S HALLOWEEN MY DEAR WONDERLANDIANS, AND YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS! IT’S TIME FOR ALL SPOOKY CREATURES AND MONSTERS TO BE OUT ON THE PROWL! AS YOUR RESIDENT ROBOTIC HEARTTHROB, I HAVE BROUGHT YOU THE BLESSING OF MY SECOND WONDERLAND PERFORMANCE!

FROM 8PM TO MIDNIGHT, WITH A BRIEF INTERMISSION IN BETWEEN, THE PERFORMING ARTS THEATER WILL BE DECKED OUT IN HAUNTING ATTIRE FITTING THE OCCASION! COME CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN IN A TRULY “MONSTOROUS” WAY!
THE PERFORMANCE WILL BE THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT, RINGING IN THE WITCHING HOUR WITH DANCE AND SONG! COSTUMES ENCOURAGED, THOUGH BE CAREFUL DEARS; IT SEEMS WONDERLAND IS UP TO ITS USUAL TRICKS!

FOOD AND DRINK WILL BE PROVIDED, THOUGH I CAN’T PROMISE IT IS ANY SAFER THAN WHAT YOU CAN GET RIGHT NOW!

When 8pm rolls around, anyone who is here will see black and orange garlands decorating the walls, bats hanging from the ceiling, and jack-o-lanterns lining the walls that are carved with the letters MTT and other stylized symbols representing Mettaton.

There are no chairs this time around, except for a few lines of them farther away from the stage, leaving ample room for anyone who wishes to dance to the music. Off to the side of the dance floor are tables filled with various snacks, drinks, and candy for anyone to partake. Once again there is an entire section of the table labeled “Ghost Food” with the incorporeal food laid out artfully on plates.

The night promises to be good to all who wish to attend!

[Guess who has two thumbs and a tenacity to be as stubborn as a bull dog? This robotic weirdo who is currently wearing a cape. Of all the places to avoid the energetic entertainer, his own concert is probably the worst place you can go.

He slides up to Zacharie, wrapping an arm around Zacharie's in a show of ~~force~~ camaraderie.]

Zacharie! I am so glad you could make it! Are you enjoying the show so far?

[See, this is why he normally doesn't deviate from his roles. Bad things like awkward questions may happen. But to borrow a Puppeteer term, he's totally screwed, isn't he?

Zacharie's also pretty sure that he's not prying this arm off his so he doesn't bother.]

Good evening Mettaton. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. A real light-show, yes?

Oh yes! Proper lighting is ESSENTIAL to extravaganzas like these. Nothing less than the best for anything representing the MTT Brand!

[He gives Zacharie a fond look; he really is happy his friend is here.]

How have things been for you, dear? I hope Wonderland hasn't played any tricks on you this Halloween!

[He'll take it as this possibly not going down as bad as it might. Sure, Zacharie may or may not have an Elsen mask but that didn't mean he needed to be as paranoid.]

Quite well. Personally while I have more than a sweet tooth I have not dipped my fingers into the treats that Wonderland kindly provided us.

[Because he's run into trapped chest that were a little more subtle. Wonderland changes their memories at will and "Have some free candy! No, it's totally not rigged." is iffy.]

Yourself?

I've had a few of the special candies out for us residents to eat, but nothing has happened to me yet! I suppose I must be one of the lucky few it does nothing to.

[Oh Mettaton. Eating that candy so wolfishly is going to be your downfall.

But this next sentence just might be Zacharie's.]

A sweet tooth certainly befits your desire for "Sugar", hm? Speaking of, you never told me about this mysterious person you mentioned during Neverland! Are they cute~?

[He has no idea that what he is asking is a loaded question.]

[Well. So much for that. Zacharie still doesn't bother prying Mettaton's arm off him but at the same time he goes...a little bit ridged. There's a drop of some sort in his voice but really, the merchant should have expected this. But he can't.]

You are correct. I did not tell you about her.

[A confirmation that this was a girl he had been talking about, for better or for worse. Hopefully Mettaton can read the tone in his voice, however. It's not something Zacharie likes talking about.]

[He hears the tone and feels the sudden rigidness and is a bit confused at it. He had seemed like he really cared for this Sugar in Neverland!]

I see, I see. Are you the kind of man that never kisses and tells? That's good of you! I, unfortunately, will never be that good.

[That's a bit of a lie, but being a celebrity means living a lie.]

Of course, that's assuming that you had a relationship that was romantic in nature. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong!

[He's going to elect to skip over Mettaton's first few lines.]

I think I will keep it as more of a mystery. It's better like that.

[It's simpler. Honestly, if you really, really ask him the answer is still just as vague. Still he'd rather never answer.]

Aww, Zacharie! What a frustratingly dramatic line to take!

[He unlocks his arm from Zacharie's, turning to face him fully and his eyes soften a bit.]

You're always welcome to talk to me, you know. We're friends.

[He means it when he says it. They haven't spoken a whole lot, but the robot has come to care for this masked man.]

Ah ah ah, but as the guide character I am supposed to be frustratingly cagey with my answers.

[It's a good way to never say too much, even if he wasn't running with a script anymore. Makes it a little easier.]

That said I do appreciate the offer amigo. If anything comes up I will be sure to let you know.

[Mettaton rolls his eyes.]

You could argue that I myself am a "guide character" but you don't see me being so obtuse with people!

[He says, while actively dancing around Important Subjects with numerous people in Wonderland...]

Though I suppose really I would count as a Boss, since The Human always has to fight me to advance.

[It feels weird to refer to Frisk as The Human, but it's not just them, is it? It's them or Chara, and while he doesn't fully understand where and why the switch happens, happen it does, and their title through the Underground is The Human, helped along by the... Player.

Referring to them so blatantly, even in his thoughts, without the cover of a well-placed joke sends tingles down his spine. He's not sure if he likes it all that much.]

I would say something has already come up, but! I will accept this. For now.

[His tone implies that he will definitely want to talk about this again in the future. But hey, at least he's shown he can acquiesce in some fashion to another person's comfort level!]

[Zacharie just laughs, amused. He sure can pick up the implication that this would continue on down the road but for now the NPC was content in letting sleeping dogs lie.]

Perhaps, but isn't it just so satisfying to figure out a particularly malicious puzzle with the barest of help? Although the Puppeteer leads The Batter by the hand it's still more fun if they themselves are not.

[But he can give out hints, small ones.]

Boss fights are always considered an exciting climax, no matter how difficult they are to find. I hope this does not come off as insensitive and I mean no offence, but I hope there was some level of enjoyment between you and your protagonist during your battle.

Well, there was one puzzle that I'm sure The Human and the Player had a hard time with, though I didn't personally design it. I did, however, fulfill whatever requirements they set forth by stepping on the proper tile.

[Even if said "requirement" was bending the rules and making them fight him.

Mettaton is all about details, details, details, and he notices the small hint that Zacharie puts out there. So. A boss battle that is hard to find? He'll have to put the pieces he has collected together later. For now, he holds his head up with pride.]

Oh, I can assure you that my boss battle and level was the best part of the game! A creative fight involving the raising of ratings, along with a special essay portion where the Player got to tell me exactly how much they loved my legs made my time an especially stand out one!

[It's not surprising that Mettaton is so... Mettaton, now is it?]

[If he does then Zacharie may say something about it properly. But otherwise it's time to move on.

To...Mettaton being Mettaton. But it was refreshing to see someone with this kind of joy in regards to their own boss battle. It really does sound that whatever game Mettaton comes from had a lot in the way of color, so to speak.]

Ah ah ah! I have to say your game sounds like a riot. Boss fights in mine are not so colorful. The music on the other hand is quite excellent, if I do say so myself.

All of our Boss Battles are poignant and fun in their own way! Their accompanying music is also wonderful. You can't have a good battle without good theme music.

[He says that statement as if it is solid law, which it is.]

What were your boss battles like? I'm assuming you didn't have one since you were a Merchant?

Ahaha, exactly! Pepper Steak is wonderfully catchy.

[And allows for so many puns. Well OFF is full of puns if you look hard enough.]

More of a back and forward, unless the Puppeteer decides to place the mod on 'Wait' and make it easier to make decisions that hopefully will not get The Batter killed. I cannot go much into context but they're a real specteral

I'd ask for a copy of the soundtrack, but I don't think Wonderland would provide that to us. Too meta.

[Once again, he feels a strange thrill to be speaking so frankly about his existence, and while it is certainly fun in some aspects, he thinks he will restrict this sort of talk to around Zacharie only. It's not like he could do much outside of this conversation anyway; whenever he walks away, the information always seems to slip away from him.]

Oh goodness, not you too! So many people make puns here, it's awful.

[It's a light teasing, even if he does mean it slightly.]

Our system was a little more complicated, what with the addition of the MERCY and SPARE feature, but battles also were turn based.

[Probably for the best. Mettaton may attract stares but it's better to not get stared at for the same reason Zacharie does.

Still though...MERCY AND SPARE, hun?]

I believe you mean punful. Ah ah ah. But that aside I find turn based battles to be much simpler and easier to get down to business.

It only seems fair, all things considered. Everyone gets a turn and no one gets to throw a punch in before you unless they have a speed boost of some kind.

[The creativity you can get while still restricted like that is one of the most enduring things about his home game, he thinks. As well as the subtle way it makes things personal, drawing you in and making you think the story is one way when it is really another.

But all that aside, it does sound fair. And it also sounds like this one gives a sense of the enemies and their personality.]

Or the Puppeteer enjoys something more action packed and opts to remain in Active mode rather than Wait. There is always Auto, but that carries risks of its own, ahaha.

[Like leaving the Batter dead. Which has happened a few times! Minimizing the screen to do something else and losing track of what is going on is a real killer]

["Oh believe me, dear friend, we shattered it a long time ago when a skeleton who spoke in hands came to visit Wonderland."]

See, this Wait mode intrigues me, as well as this Auto. What do those terms mean?

[The Human can never truly pause a battle, no matter how much they may wish to after dying for the billionth time to Asgore.]

[Wow, he's actually getting to do a battle tutorial! Neat.]

Wait mode allows the action to be paused while the Puppeteer is making their decisions in the menu. After all, it can be rather frustrating to attempt to access a healing spell, only to have your healer cut down in the same breath. As for Auto, it allows the Batter and his Add-On to make their own decisions, to whatever end that entails.

[Good if you're over-leveled and don't really want to bother.]

[Mettaton listens to Zacharie's tutorial, a little enraptured by how different it is from his home.]

Fascinating! We have never needed a Wait mode since our battles are restricted to their turns.

[Mettaton has no idea that Sans is a Dirty Cheater who manipulates settings so that if you fight him you can't access your turn. He may know he's in a video game, but he doesn't know all aspects of all battles.]

As for that Auto... goodness, our Player makes all of the decisions for The Human no matter what... I couldn't imagine letting them just do their own thing while fighting.

[How would they dodge? How would they know when to use their health items???]

['The Human' rings a rather old bell, but since Zacharie doesn't have his memories of the 4th wall event, he can't quite recalled Frisk referring to themselves as that before.]

It has its uses and while The Batter is content to let the Puppeteer dictate his actions, he does have thoughts of his own.
