[Punctuality in planning is important: the ballroom itself will only be ready for guests at exactly 8 o'clock, bedecked in glittering golds and the red-green of Christmas' vestiges, still clinging to the old year. Dining tables surround a central dance floor, bars and buffets dot the edges of the room and both holly and mistletoe are expressed liberally through the interior.

Mingle, dance, eat and be merry! The New Year will come in at midnight - the band will play and the drinks will flow for long after.]

"Damn, he's cute," Michonne notes, eyebrow raised. "Wasn't he the giant guy a while back?" The only reason she remembers is because she has a thing with giants. They were her first event, and they weren't kind.

Sarah grins, then nods but quickly defends him. "It was just a glitch in his tech but I think it's all fine now. That's actually how we connected. I kept him company and just...made sure he was okay while he figured out how to get himself back to a normal size." She'd fallen for him even then, giant sized as he was.

"Well that's a damn cute story," Michonne says sincerely. "I remember you two were a cute pair when we were all witches and wizards. Guess even the mansion is rooting for you two."

[blackbirdsing]

"I guess so," Sarah says with a quiet laugh. "He's pretty damn cute and easy to love," she says without thinking about the words. They come easily, roll right off the tongue. "I've really wondered why I'm here but it almost feels like it was...for this. For him."

That hits home for Michonne and she swallows, nodding in agreement. "I can get that. Maybe that's how Andrea feels, I don't know. But I do know without this place we wouldn't get a chance. And you and Ray wouldn't. So that's what I'm choosing to take away from all of it, in spite of all the other bullshit. We get the people we love when maybe we wouldn't have before."

Of course, it's different for everyone, but it seems there's a small pocket of people who feel the same way.

Sarah picks up on the emotion and smiles a little softer now before holding up a glass. "Then a toast. To the people we love and care about. Here and at home."

"I can drink to that," she says as their glasses clink together. "Now, I need to get back to Andrea and you should be over there dancing with Ray. Seize the moment because tomorrow the mansion could be on fire, and all that," she says good-naturedly.

"I'll be by to get a massage after the next event, though. Count on it."

Sarah smiles brightly. "I'll see you there, then. Have fun, Michonne." Waving her off, Sarah turns to go back to Ray, glad that she's seemed to have made a new friend.
