[OPEN] We'll Take A Cup of Kindness Yet

Who: EVERYONE, but especially you!
Where: Wonderland Ballroom
When: New Year's Eve
Rating: PG - PG13 (will change if applicable)
Summary: New Year's Eve Party
The Story:

[The morning of December 31st, all residents will receive a handwritten invitation slipped under their door.]

You are cordially invited to attend a party
celebrating the New Year

Wonderland Ballroom
8 pm - 1 am

Semi-Formal Attire
Buffet & Bar
No RSVP Required

All Ages Welcome

For inquiries, contact E. O'Connell

[Punctuality in planning is important: the ballroom itself will only be ready for guests at exactly 8 o'clock, bedecked in glittering golds and the red-green of Christmas' vestiges, still clinging to the old year. Dining tables surround a central dance floor, bars and buffets dot the edges of the room and both holly and mistletoe are expressed liberally through the interior.

Mingle, dance, eat and be merry! The New Year will come in at midnight - the band will play and the drinks will flow for long after.

[The evening has been winding down, the hour stretching late, and Cami has nearly decided to take her leave when chaos erupts around them. This is not the typical Wonderland fare, violence so easily blamed on some personality-altering event. No, the danger now is of a far worse kind, the unbridled rage that simply exists within a creature of immense power, one too strong to be stopped.

Two too strong; with horror Cami recognizes both the attacker and the attacked, catching sight of both Klaus and Lucifer before speed blurs their movements, then blood.

For far too many passing moments she watches in transfixed horror, far too weak to join the fight, to somehow sway either side to stopping. But her humanity doesn’t leave her powerless; she can still act, to follow those who have chosen to flee this room, albeit for a different purpose. She runs on delicate heels, the airy fabric of her dress dancing out behind her as she races through halls and up stairs.

Pockets, she thinks in the same way she would curse. Next time a dress with pockets to hold her phone.]

FREYA! REBEKAH! [Cami shouts out their names even before she’s gotten the door to their floor open. Thankfully none of their rooms are far in, and Cami can only hope the pair have both retired to their own beds tonight. She gasps for air between nearly every word, but still cries out all the same. Few things within any world have the power to end Klaus Mikaelson; Cami somehow suspects Lucifer might manage it.]

Lucifer is trying to kill Klaus!
deathlessness: (do you really understand?)

[personal profile] deathlessness 2017-01-11 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Freya's head pokes out her door first, scrutinizing Cami's words for a moment, before immediately rushing to move past her because she has no doubts that Lucifer could actually kill her brother if he put his mind to it.

Her brother may be the Original unkillable hybrid, but Lucifer is the Devil.]

[Rebekah is up quickly when she hears Camille's words. She has flashes of memories, of watching Marcel drive Papa Tunde's dagger into Klaus' heart and the fear of seeing her brother suffer again, perhaps even worse than he did before is clear.

But Freya has asked the important question so for now, she'll stay quiet.

The ballroom. At the party. [How much time has passed? How much more before Rebekah gets there, even with vampiric speed on her side, or Freya and whatever magic can provide? Panic stunts her breathing as much as her run, but Cami can't stop for that. She has to make sure Freya and Rebekah know where to go, what they're heading into.]

He just threw Klaus across the room like he was nothing. We have to get back there, now.

[Weβ€”They. They do, because Cami has done all she can do as a human.]

[Yep, she would bolt for the ballroom, but she's not going to get there fast enough on foot. So instead of running for the door, she reaches for the talisman around her neck out of habit, before murmuring a soft incantation under her breath and astral projecting herself out of her body and into the ballroom where Lucifer and Klaus are battling.

Once that spell is complete, she changes focus, raising her hands and using a barrier spell to force Lucifer off her brother as quickly as possible, throwing him with as much force as she can manage.]

Enough.

[ there is blood in his mouth. blood in his mouth, staining his skin; blood caked over his knuckles and sticky in his palms. he has betrayed his friend. so fabricated a friendship it was, but there was something so very vulnerably sentimental in it to exploit. to manipulate with his words here and now. something real, something that hurts more than the blows lucifer lands. he feels it: anger, pain, and betrayal, ricocheting and reverberating through him, mixing with his fierce drive to persevere; to survive.

still he will fight with will and brutality, but the heart of it is gone past that moment: he absorbs any shots as much as deigns to return them.

until his sister saves the day. he feels the brunt of the spell, the release of his opponent's grip, and falls to the ground. klaus' eyes are wide as he breathes in, deep and sudden; despite how his bluster might fool others, there was true doubt in him to how this would end. there is relief, bottoming out his gut. there is worry, his gaze seeking freya.

[once rebekah has confirmation that freya is stopping things she zooms ahead into the right direction. panic pumps through her blood and veins and all she can think of is how her brother suffered back home, how she was powerless as marcel punished him. she feels that powerlessness now and it angers her. it makes her afraid in a way she hasn't been in a long time.

she stops when she gets to the ballroom and ignores every one else before she gets to klaus' side. she wraps her arms around him to hoist him out of there before lucifer can have the chance to recover.

(this is not the first time she has helped klaus when he was beaten, though it's been many centuries since then)

it is not until they are to the safety of their common room that she stops, setting her brother down in one of the chairs long enough to bite into her own wrist, offering it to him to help him recover. at least in this way she is not powerless.

this time she can help him.

Freya, [ is the only word he gets past his blood-stained lips, his sister's name gruff and thick. his hand reaches to still rebekah's wrist, his fingers grasping the delicate curve of her forearm below its seeping bite marks. let alone the fiery and reactive indignation he feels at being so easily and without consideration tucked and quartered to their rooms, his only thought is for the sister he believes is left behind. ]

She's safe. She used a spell. She's here.

[ they are both helpless. they are all helpless to the fate that awaits them: he, rebekah, and freya. he looks in rebekah's eyes, certain and assuring and shadowed with that same fear. the same fear that took him thinking for a split moment that freya could be alone and abandoned. the same terror and despair he sees in the depths of his sister's gaze:

the panic.

he holds that stare, his lashes fluttering, his grip on her arm turning from urgency to clinging firmness. (they are afraid, but they are safe. they are here, and that is more and less and the same as what they had the moment before they arrived.)

with a sighed exhale, klaus wordlessly leans forward to open his lips over rebekah's offered wrist. he drinks and cradles that drink to his mouth.

[There is much Cami has to take on assumption, or perhaps faith: Freya doesn't move except to grab her talisman, and when Rebekah goes it is far faster than Cami's human eyes can see. But this family stands strongest when they stand together, and a second stirring of wind within the corridor tells Cami the deed is done.

Or so it seems to be; Freya still stands in the hall, Cami reluctant to leave her. Yet she stands firm, steady, and Klaus had decidedly not been when Cami tore her eyes away to run from the ballroom.

Hoping nothing would disturb her friend outside, Cami turns towards the door now standing open. She walks inside, just in time to see Klaus drinking from Rebekah's wrist. She reminds herself of the healing power of that blood, and that Klaus has resilience far beyond what should be possible.

She has to; Cami doesn't think she's ever seen Klaus this beaten, even when he had white oak protruding from his chest.]

Klaus-- [Is he okay? Is Rebekah's blood enough? She looks between the two siblings, willing to offer her own if it turns out to be necessary. At present, however, she forces herself to wait until he can answer the countless questions that are sure to come.]

[Rebekah places her other hand on the small of her brother's back, steadying him as he feeds from her. the connection is tactile and intimate, an action shared few and far between them in the centuries they have been alive. It should be enough at least to help spurn on the healing process. Although this looks back Klaus has survived worse. Rebekah still remembers seeing his corpse burst into flames when Alaric tried to kill him. She remembers mourning him. She remembers a bridge and the desire to take back control.

That itch still gets under her skin now .But what can she do against the Devil himself?

She is so caught up in her thoughts she doesn't noticed the sound of Cami entering the room, but soon enough she speaks and Rebekah lifts her head to reply.
]

He will be okay.

[who she means to comfort with these words, herself or Cami or even Klaus himself -- it's up to debate.]

[ he has suffered worse. he is suffering much worse, at the hands of someone just as vicious and angry as he or the devil, and that fact does not escape him. their (his) weakness does not escape him, nor does their (his) vulnerability against a new enemy he should not have made. (an enemy he knows with renewed and reminded logic he was always destined to have. lucifer would have known. he would have found out and pursued him somehow. it was written in their fates.

he must know this, to go on.

to weather the consequencesβ€”)

he only requires a few mouthfuls of rebekah's blood. he knows, pale but steady, that he wants more but he does not need it. there is no time for it, surrounded by those he loves in front of an open door with one who would do himβ€”and now, themβ€”harm.

he cannot, does not, look either rebekah or cami in the eye as he ceases drinking, nor as he stands with agile abruptness.
] I'll be fine. [ klaus only walks out the door to face freya, to pick her up, an arm around her shoulders and one under her knees. he carries her inside and shuts the door; moves to lay her carefully and gently onto the couch.

his fingers reach to brush the hair away at her temple.

all he wants is for her eyes to open; that itch plagues him as it plagues his sister. he wants to act.

[It doesn't take long for her to return, as it took far less time and magical effort on her part to talk Lucifer down from his crusade - at least less than she assumed it would. It's only a few moments after he places her down that she opens her eyes with a deep breath.

It's not as sharp as returning to life, but almost like the kind of sigh that comes with a deep sleep, and not long after that, her eyes open to light on Klaus, sitting up with ease.]

Lucifer is talked down for the moment, but I don't know how long it will last. I think it's best for the time being that we avoid Lux.

[Which is probably more for her than it is for them. And makes her sadder than she'd care to admit. But once that's said, she turns her question to Klaus directly.]

Are you alright?

[ whatever her awakening is, klaus is only filled with gripping relief at the sight of it. his hand grasps her shoulder as she sits; he stays before her, the fear flickering in his eyes unmistakable: lucifer is cowed, but not necessarily for long. and then?

(he is all right. however distressing his bodily debility is, it will pass. his true distress lies in the future. it exists for his sister, and them all: he could ask the same of her.

and not only because lucifer is formidable, but because he isβ€”wasβ€”a friend.)

klaus' jaw sets. he takes freya's hand with reassuring strength and stands despite the unsettling wooziness that he knows will pass, and faces them all.
] We'll be all right. Lucifer isn't unreasonable. I can talk to him. [ he can find a way, even if not through his own words. ]

That being said, when he does finally find her, her stance is not the casual relaxed shoulders of a barfly but that of a woman rooted in her own power, and is having no quarter with whatever obsession that seems to have been triggered in Lucifer.]

The hits won't stop coming tonight, will they?]

You would protect him? A murderer of innocents?

[He tilts his head at her, eyes flaring at their second person of the day, his visage shifting and changing before her eyes, a mix between the Devil and the Lucifer she's come to know.]

I have to wonder what that makes you...
deathlessness: (in the flowered frock)

[personal profile] deathlessness 2017-01-20 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Freya's own self loathing has never been hard to find. She's never bothered to hide the things that she's had to do in order to try and save herself, in order to fight for her own freedom, for that of her family. The blood on her hands is not as thick as that of her brother's, but it's there all the same, and it's far more meaningful than those that Klaus has killed simply to survive.

After all, some things must die, in order for others to survive.

Still, Lucifer's flickering visage draws to mind the face of Davina pleading with her, begging her to save her instead of condemning her. It's the freshest of Freya's crimes, the most recent, at least, but it doesn't stop her thoughts from drawing deeper, to the slick burn of poison, the gasps of her own last breath, and then a yielding darkness, the kind that she breaks through to find that she has survived, but where there was once life, once movement and love, now was emptiness and shame.

Freya's greatest flaw has always been her impatience, her impulse, and it has always cost her the things she loves most dearly. But after everything her actions have put Klaus through, she will not allow him to bear a second punishment when leaving Wonderland means that he will go back to endure one far worse. A tear slips down her cheek as a person who was once her friend forces her to relive one of the worst moments of her life, the moment when she went from vindicated captive to monster in her own right.]

He is my family. How can I judge him when I have my own sins to bear?
walkingheroin: (pic#10287206)

[personal profile] walkingheroin 2017-01-20 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
You don't need to. I already have.

[He's been found guilty as charged, and Lucifer needs no courtroom or jury to administer his justice.]

I'm afraid I know all too well that family does not mean much when it comes to judgments. [His Dad taught him that one, both judgment and punishment, and his siblings easily fell in line.] Perhaps when I'm finished with him, I can judge your sins as well, find out all of your family's dirty little secrets.
deathlessness: * klaus (the future's in your hands)

[personal profile] deathlessness 2017-01-20 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
[She laughs bitterly at that, because her family has far too many secrets and far too many sins. Sins they are already paying for of their own accord, in an event triggered by Freya's hand. Wonderland is their reprieve, their brief repose from their own punishments, particularly Klaus.]

Then judge me. Weigh my crimes and find me wanting. But Klaus is already bearing the weight of his sins in our world, condemned to endless torture at the hands of our judge and jury. Just because he is guilty does not mean he isn't already paying for his crimes - there is no need for you to punish him again.

[If Klaus is willing to sacrifice for them at home, the least she can do is sacrifice for him here.]

Once should be enough.
walkingheroin: (consultthemuses5)

[personal profile] walkingheroin 2017-01-20 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Klaus is already gone off to whatever hole he's hiding in and thus the source of his anger is removed, which when confronted with Freya and the power she apparently possesses and her capacity for selflessness, to take her another's punishment onto herself, makes him falter.

'Once should be enough.'

It's not an untrue statement. How long had he been punished for his crime, the one his Father cast him into Hell for? He'd been punished long enough too, had he not?

The terrifying visage that flickers over his features falls away suddenly, leaving behind the face of a man who may be one of the most tired creatures in existence.]

Is it? [His voice is scratchy as he asks the question.] And who gets to decide that?
deathlessness: (knows half the reasons why)

[personal profile] deathlessness 2017-01-20 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
[She watches him carefully, and suddenly he is her friend again, bearing the weariness of age the way she's seen many of the important people in her life do. She keeps the barrier in place for a moment, unsure if it is a ruse to gain her trust or if it's something truly genuine, but she does take a tentative step forward, the anger fading away to something slightly more understanding.

Punishing the guilty makes sense - after all, there was no question that Heaven was not meant for a family for the Mikaelsons.]

You are the one exacting the punishment.

[Even though she knows that it's possible they've ceased to talk about Klaus at all.]

I would say that the choice is in your hands.
walkingheroin: (springdash1)

[personal profile] walkingheroin 2017-01-20 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose I will have to think about it then, won't I?

[This evening has given him plenty of things to think about, much of which he doesn't understand. There have been plenty of times he's gotten angry about the sins of others, of the destruction they cause because of petty whims and selfish desires.

But this wasn't just anger, though he's not sure he knows exactly what else he's feeling.

Even if he felt like tearing Klaus limb from limb in this moment, there's no way he would be able to get to him between Freya and the others protecting him.]

I've had enough for one night. [He takes a glance around at the party that he has...thoroughly decimated.] It appears everyone else has as well. I imagine that's probably also my fault.
deathlessness: (the star-wolf cries)

[personal profile] deathlessness 2017-01-20 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her eyes wander to the rest of the room as a small smirk crosses her lips. This is a scene that's all too familiar. After all, Mikaelson parties aren't exactly known for their quiet refinement.]

Well. What's a party without a little property damage.

[Her tone is dry and could almost be a joke, but this isn't a joking moment. Instead, it's simply something to diffuse the tension, and take the edge off the anger that had been permeating the room earlier. She swallows, then takes a step back and drops the barrier just as suddenly as it had appeared.]

Please think about it.

[And don't just say that to placate her. But with that, she'll disappear from the room as suddenly as she appeared, retreating back to her own body and the safety of family for now.]
