[The morning of December 31st, all residents will receive a handwritten invitation slipped under their door.]

[Punctuality in planning is important: the ballroom itself will only be ready for guests at exactly 8 o'clock, bedecked in glittering golds and the red-green of Christmas' vestiges, still clinging to the old year. Dining tables surround a central dance floor, bars and buffets dot the edges of the room and both holly and mistletoe are expressed liberally through the interior.

Mingle, dance, eat and be merry! The New Year will come in at midnight - the band will play and the drinks will flow for long after.]

You know what, I'm not sure. I don't know a great deal about Anders...

[He almost misses a step, then recovers. When he thinks of it though, it's true. He doesn't know a thing about Anders, really. Not even his name.]

No doubt the dog made for far more interesting conversation. [Nathaniel muses with a smile.]

You don't? [ She laughs lightly, looking amused, but dubious. ] I was under the impression that the two of you were close.

[ Robyn clicks her tongue as if chiding him for the lack of knowledge. ]

Not a good conversationalist, but a wonderful dancer. [ She's grinning again. ] Always so creative in his steps, and enthusiastic, besides.

In a way, we are. [But doesn't Anders make himself such a difficult person to get close to? Their friendship had grown through trading rough barbs and false equivalencies, until Nathaniel had realised his tolerance of the mage had turned into a kind of fondness.

After the battle at Vigil's Keep, things had been.. different. It had taken time; a slow change, but it had happened.

It's what Nathaniel means when he says he isn't sure if the Anders he last met was really Anders at all.]

You're starting to make me jealous. I like to think I'm a better dance partner than a mabari.

'In a way?' Do I have to ask outright to hear this mysterious tale?

[ Come on, Nathaniel, she's so obviously interested in hearing about this! And you're being so vague!! ]

Ah, well... I suppose I could give you that. The honorable title of "a better dance partner than a mabari."

[ There's a laugh as she twirls, enjoying the moment, enjoying the party. ]

Are you happier now?

Happier for earning such an illustrious title, or happier in general?

[Vague is just the way of things, particularly with such a tricky topic as Anders. Often, the rogue isn't quite sure how he feels about his friend, or just how much of a friend Anders considers him to be at all.

The years between them changed little, when all was said and done.]

I suppose 'yes' is as good an answer as any to both.

I meant with respect to the title, but 'both' is good to hear.

[ If asked, herself, Robyn isn't entirely sure what she would say. Isn't entirely sure how she feels. ]
