- [ Despite her appearance with Richie at the New Years Eve Ball, Kate's presence in the Mansion is not easily noticed as January rolls around. She keeps to her room on the tenth floor, getting out only when the walls feel like their closing in on her. If encountered during the day, you can be fairly certain that Kate will be alone but as the sun goes down, there's every chance you'll find any conversation you might have with her, interrupted by a tall man with glasses who if you think is sizing you up, undoubtedly is. ]
ᴛʜᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴇʟ
- [ The house of God had once been a place where Kate felt welcomed with open arms, a sanctuary that wrapped her in peace and warmth in a way that even her home could not. It was one of the few places where she had the certainty of belonging that so few ever found in life and she'd thought it would always be that for her, no matter where her life took her. Now? She wasn't so sure.
It had been many months since Kate had stepped foot in a Chapel and though Richie had shown her the one here in Wonderland as a way of putting her at ease, she already wondered if it existed to torment her more than comfort her. Kate had never wavered in her beliefs, despite all she'd seen and experienced this last year. She'd held firm to the knowledge that God loved her because as far as she was concerned, God was love but having time to stop and think about every choice she'd made, Kate could feel the weight of every one of those decisions whenever she stepped foot inside the chapel.
While she doesn't spend hours on end here, Kate can still be found in the Chapel at various times throughout the day, usually when there doesn't appear to be anyone else around. Always tucked into one of the pews at the back, as if she weren't sure she should really be here at all. ]

- [ While some people took to the magic of Wonderland; the ease and comfort it afforded those who lived here, Kate found it difficult to trust anything that could be achieved without effort. She'd tried eating in the dining room where most people took their meals but these attempts usually ended with her being more hungry than satisfied and she always ended up retreating to the kitchen where she could fix her own meal.
She was hardly what you'd call a gourmet cook, but Kate had always helped her mother in the kitchen and she'd in many ways taken on the role of caretaker in the time since her mother's death. It wasn't like her father had been in a state to do so and Scott? It was a miracle if Kate could get him to set the table.
Used to cooking for two or more, Kate will be prone to making too much and never one to see food go to waste, anyone who happens into the kitchen while she's here will be offered some of whatever she's making. Those who happen to frequent the kitchen might even realize that she's the one responsible for the plates of food that have handwritten notes beneath them, inviting anyone to take it for themselves. ]

- [ When you spend your whole life in the small town of Bethel, Texas, a place that despite the bitter cold that came during Winter, had never seen an inch of snow in the time Kate had lived there, the Winter Wonderland that existed beyond the Mansion walls had its own kind of appeal.
Some days, Kate would be content to sit by a window, a cup of hot chocolate warming her hands as she watched the flurries of snow, dance through the air. On days when the weather was mild enough to dare venture out, however, Kate would don multiple layers of clothing and would brave the biting cold just to experience what for her, was more magical than anything she'd seen inside the mansion.]

- [ Set something up yourself! Kate will explore the various parts of the Mansion so it won't be inconceivable that you'd come across her almost anywhere. She will also be curious about the mirror side of Wonderland so Mirrors! are more than welcome to tag her as well. Alternatively, if you want to hash an idea out with me, you're welcome to PM her journal or hit me up on plurk:

I guess I'm just used to you... knowing...
[Because while everyone else has seen Richie as a dangerous, walking disaster area? Kate had seen somebody who had a purpose, who had more faith than she did when everything was falling apart. He was grounded in a way she could only dream about. It was hard for her to remember the confident Richie who appeared so at ease before everything got turned upside down, and consider that he didn't always know what was going on around him.
She can't provide him with any answers, however, can't tell him what this is anymore than he can her, but he does say one thing she can hold on to, something she can offer him in return.]
I don't want to lose it either. [There is a part of her that's worried they're doing this because neither of them want to be alone. That whatever this is, might not have happened if the circumstances had been different.
She doesn't want that to be true, doesn't really believe it is for her part, but it's hard to define what this is without being certain, one way or another.
She feels the tension release from his body, Kate relaxing in kind. The elephant in the room being acknowledged, allowing her to feel more secure.
Until, you know. That.]
You should... probably know. [At least she's not as embarrassed now, unable to hit the same level of mortification after the conversation they'd had.] This... is, about as much experience as I've ever had, before...
no subject
[Which might have something to do with the fact that he's probably the sanest she's ever seen him. Becoming a Culebra actually cleared up his mind quite a bit, though that's probably more attributed to the fact that he wasn't being forced into hallucinations all day long.]
Then there's no problem.
[The rest they can figure out through trial and error, right? Hopefully not more error than trial, but with these two, who knows.
His head turns to the side slightly at her admission, pondering that before he finally spits it out.]
It's not like I do this a lot, either.
no subject
I'm not talking about you, seeing things... And I don't believe everything I saw in you was because of Santanico.
[If anything, she believes that Santanico's influence was what destabilized him. While the truth was perhaps something in between, Kate was determined to show him that the good she'd seen, had been all on him.]
That night... you just, seemed so... sure. [Of his path, of who he was. Santanico had led him but she hadn't given him that confidence.
It's never really occurred to Kate that the picture she has of Richie in her mind, isn't entirely in keeping with the person he's always been, but then he goes and says something like that and it alters her whole perspective.
It also relieves the knot of uneasiness that's been making her feel queasy and rather than respond with words, she leans in to steal a kiss before he can fully register what she's doing.]
Then I guess we just figure it out as we go.
no subject
I have to be.
[When he decides on something, sets his mind to it, he feels compelled to see it through to its conclusion, for better or worse. And when the dust settles, he has to find some way to have it have all meant something, for it to have been worth it.
It's possible he got cocky after 35 successful jobs in a row. It almost felt like a justification of his skill when Seth failed on that job he tried without him, even if it had also sucked.
His face draws back towards her as she leans in, mouth meeting hers easily now, less trepidation lingering between both of them. A small smile starts to creep across his face.]
Usually, I like a plan a little more solid than that, but I think we can make it work.
no subject
The only thing you have to be is yourself.
[It was probably one of the more cheesy things that she'd said and yet he only had to look at her to see that she meant it; As if the person he was, would be enough.]
I don't think you can really plan for something like this. [A hint of amusement in her tone, showing Kate was at ease once again and she presses another kiss to his lips, drawing it out this time as her fungrs run back through his hair.]
That offer to pick things up where we left off, still on the table?
no subject
Don't know why I'd want to be anyone else.
[For as much as he's never fit in with regular society and social norm, that's not a realm in which he cared what the fuck people thought of him. It only irritated him when people presumed he wasn't good enough, so it felt better than he cared to admit that Kate not only liked who he was, but didn't need to have Seth around too. He was Richie to her, not just one half of the Gecko brothers.
Her lips linger against his, and he leans into it, soaking up her presence, breathing in her clean, warm scent. When she draws back to speak, his smirk returns, and he takes her cheek in his palm, his thumb running over her lips, first the upper and then dragging slowly over the lower.]
Come here.
[His hands move with more purpose then, taking hold of her waist to that he can sit them both up. He pulls her onto his lap, her knees pressed into the couch cushion on either side of his legs, and then tugs her a little closer, looking up at her with intense, excited eyes.]
no subject
The trace of his thumb draws a low, whimper of a moan past her lips, Kate's gaze dipping to his mouth as the longing to kiss him causes an ache to build inside of her. His hands are on her a moment later, though, and she'd probably be grateful to him for doing rather than guiding under the present circumstances.
It was fair to say that this, was not a position, she had ever been in before and she's very aware of the fact that her body is flush against his in ways that made not thinking about sex, almost impossible.]
This is new... [Kate, almost everything for you is new. Still, she can't help but be drawn in by the look in his eyes as her arms move to drape around his shoulders, her fingers teasing the ends of his hair as a smile succeeds in pulling at the corners of her mouth.]
Good, new. [She clarifies as she shifts on top of him, her body nestled perfectly against his as she tries to minimize the space between them.]
no subject
[The pause is partially because he knows how dumb that sounds, and partially because she moving back and forth to settle in his lap and that's really distracting, so he's gonna blame said idiotic words on that because stifling a groan seemed smarter than coming up with a better word than the same one he'd already said.
His lips part as she presses herself closer, and her fingers are idly playing with his hair, so it's not a huge shock that he responds in kind, his hands moving lower to settle on her hips instead of her waist. The pressure of his grip intensifies as he gently presses her body down against his lap as he leans in to recapture her mouth with his.]
no subject
She's very aware of the pressure between her legs, the thin layers of material that separate them. The heat that builds as she leans into him, her body flush with his.
There's an intensity in the way she meets his lips now, one that hadn't been there before. The act of simply talking about her uneasiness, making it easier for Kate to give herself over to him.
Fingernails scrape over the skin at the back of his neck and Kate draws her hand towards his cheek, cupping his face as her lips part and her tongue gently probes in its search for his.]
no subject
It makes his fingers press harder into her hips, simultaneously grounding himself in her as well as pulling her against him in the same moment.
She's going to be the death of him, isn't she? Don't make a liar out of him, Kate. There are some things he's just not going to be able to help if you keep that up.]
no subject
Forced to break for air, a whimper of a protest spills past her lips, Kate's breath, hot against his face as she refuses to allow breathing to get in the way of their closeness.
No longer overthinking every touch, the tangle of thoughts that appeared to hold her back before have slipped away and Kate emboldened by his reactions to her, runs her nails up through his scalp, her thighs squeezing his body as his long fingers press into her flesh.]
Richie... [Longing drips from his name as the friction of their bodies causes the ache to move lower, growing with intensity for every second that passes and Kate tries to soothe it by pressing her mouth to his once more, her chest crushed to his in her eagerness to taste him.]
no subject
As she breaks away to briefly catch her breath, Richie's face pitches forward into her collarbone as Kate rolls her hips against the pressure he's created, the groan in his throat only mildly held back this time.
Her nails raking through his hair and the way her legs press in to hug his body aren't exactly helping, and he would have needed to be a superhero to completely keep his cool.
His head lifts back up as his name falls from her lips, the sound sweeter than possibly anything he's ever heard before, and then she's crushing herself against him, eliciting another groan that vibrates against her mouth. For all he's said in the past several hours, he would have to be truly dead not to want her in this moment, and he is very, very far from dead, Culebra or no. This fact would likely become immediately obvious to her as he stiffens below the press of her hips.
His hands slide upward, once against slipping beneath the fabric of her shirt, fingers splayed across the bare skin of her lower back.]
no subject
And she's only too aware of his growing arousal, the hardening length that presses between her legs and how the ache she'd been trying to ease in vain, now made her whimper against his lips.
She could understand now, how people could throw away everything they believed in the blink of an eye, finally got why so many people were unwilling to wait.
Cool air brushes over her skin as his hand slips beneath her shirt, a shiver winding down her spine and all the way to her hips. Meanwhile, Kate eases back from the intensity of the kiss, as much as she can without breaking away from him completely, not wanting to stop for even a second, but needing to breathe, to process the sensations that set her heart to hammering. Thoughts collide inside her racing mind, wants and fears contradicting one another and Kate pulls in a ragged breath, her fingers tangling through Richie's hair as her tongue snakes out to wet lips turned dry by her heavy breathing.]
Is this okay? [Her voice barely more than a whisper, the fact that she was checking with him, suggesting she wasn't struggling with this half as much as she could or ever thought she would be.]
no subject
He hums with contentment as her fingers drag through his hair again, his eyes flicking downward to watch her tongue wet her lips.
At her question, though, some clarity returns to his gaze, though he's clearly still affected by her position against him.]
Are you afraid?
[Of him? Of herself? These are important questions.]
no subject
Had he asked her this question before they'd talked, the answer would have been yes, no second guessing, no uncertainty; A solid and committed yes.
Now? Almost as if to test herself, she presses her mouth to his, a slow, drawn out kiss that hums with her soft moans as her tongue slides past his lips in search of his. This she could do all day and night, kissing Richie until her mouth was red and raw, learning what made him moan a little louder, made his grip on her tighten.
It's the more that sees Kate on uneven ground, his hand beneath her shirt, exploring the milky expanse of her skin, the borderline painful ache that she's almost desperate to relieve as he presses into her. With a slow, experimental roll of her hips, she focuses on the way he feels beneath her. Kate unable to hold back the low groan of pleasure that vibrates against his lips.]
No. [Barely breaking away to speak.] I'm not scared.
no subject
So when she says no, he believes her. Maybe she's anxious, or nervous, but not scared.]
Then why wouldn't it be okay?
no subject
Her eyebrows raise, a silent urging for him to reflect on that very point and the first sound of nerves can be heard in the flutter of laughter that spills over.]
'Cause I don't know what I'm doing. [And that point feels like it was made for her when she couldn't even use words to talk about sex.]
no subject
One side of his mouth turns up at the sound of her laugh before he leans in to kiss her again, this time being the one to test the waters, to reach for her, to see how she responds. After a moment, he draws back again, one eyebrow cocked and a damnable smirk on his face.]
Could have fooled me.
no subject
His words clear her eyes, Kate shaking her head but the smile that plays across her lips shows the giddy pleasure she gets from hearing those words, Kate wiping that smirk away with yet another kiss; hard but brief as her hips press down on top of his.]
Then why are we stopping... [Yes, she knows. Her fault, but she's fixing that now by kissing him again.]
no subject
He speaks again, likely to her chagrin, but at least the words are punctuated by his mouth colliding against hers.]
What if we....took this somewhere...with more room?
[Couches were well and good, but he could think of better places if they were gonna do this awhile.]
no subject
Bedrooms, though? They conjured images of couples in bed together, of limbs tangled and people rolling around as the covers got messed up.
It's good in a way that he doesn't break the kiss off completely to suggest it then, the kisses keeping her focused on her wants and not on the myriad of what ifs that would have played through her mind.]
Hmmm? [Kate far more focused on the hand that dances along her spine.] Sure.
no subject
[It should be easy enough with her arms looped around his neck, and he waits for her grip to tighten before his hands move from her back to slide under her thighs as he stands up, guiding her to hook her ankles around his waist.
As he starts to walk, he leans into to kiss her again, unable to force himself to stop now that he knows it's okay, and he carries her across the living area to the door leading into his room, which he flicks open with a quick turn of the knob.
She's probably at least seen glimpses of his bedroom before, perhaps even been inside to ask him a question or something, but it feels a little different even to him carrying her like this, wrapped up in her as he moves to the foot of the bed and leans forward to lay her down on the soft comforter, his tall form briefly looming over her.]
no subject
Those kisses keep her happily distracted, Kate blocking out their surroundings and focusing purely on him but the moment she feels him lowering her down onto the bed, her heart starts hammering faster in her chest, her mind having to catch up to her physical response.
Her gaze darts around the room, Kate's grip on him tightening, almost as if not letting him go will be the one thing that stops this from becoming scary.]
This is your bedroom. [Stating the very obvious.] And your bed. [Forcing herself to unwrap from him yet still holding on. You couldn't say she looks terrified exactly but there's the definite look of a deer in headlights, frozen and uncertain of what to do now.]
no subject
[The corner of his mouth twitches upward as he kicks off his shoes one at a time because he's a weirdo who has them on far too much. His hands slide up from her thighs to her waist before he gestures with an upward nod of his head.]
Scoot back a little.
[He catches her expression then, eyes searching hers while he thinks of what to say in order to navigate this situation.]
I hope this isn't too weird. I don't fit on the couch all that well. Too tall.
no subject
The hand that shifts to her waist, draws Kate's focus back on him, her eyes widening with her continued uncertainty as she tries to figure out how to respond to his question. She could shrug it off, act like she's perfectly at ease right now but she suspected that Richie might see straight through any lies. He could read her fairly well most days and she was a terrible liar.]
No it - [Shifting a couple of inches.] Not, weird. Different.
[Different, fast becoming the word to describe anything she's never done before.
Scooting back another few inches, she stops only to offer some attempt at reassurance;] It's okay.
